Revenues generated by Playstation division: $25b

Revenues generated by (Xbox, Surface, Windows) = $13b

Also: "Record operating income of $3.2Bn at the start of the generation (previous record - Nintendo $1.9Bn in FY ended March 31, 2007)" are you okay B Bodomism ?

Playstation is shattering records left and right , that won't set well with some people here 🤣
Record operating income for Playstation division = $3.15bn(full FY2020)

Operating income for Nintendo in the FY2020 without Q4(we're going to get next week) = $4.8bn

I don't get why are you laughing when Nintendo is making nearly 2 times more than Playstation division record profit lol.

We are going to have a full profit comparison thread after Nintendo financial report.

Hoping for you to be there as well.

Nintendo games and consoles cost way, way, way less than either Sony's or MS.

Don't worry. Profits only matter when you are comparing Playstation to Xbox.
When you throw Nintendo in the mix, it's not as important :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Still surprised how the PS4 has managed to sell so much while the PS5 is already out.

Holy shit.

EDIT: Oh yeah, I forgot about not having enough PS5s now. BUt still, PS4 still selling a lot.

Wonder what the MAU numbers are going to do when more countries come out of lockdown?

Gone from 38% of MAU having PS+ to 43%.

Hahaha, strong cope. This is a launch year for Sony and they still had a profit, never happened for a launch in PS's history.

Btw, how's Nintendo's Revenue? You know the thing that actually matters more than profit in business.

The numbers posted by Sony are monstrous. If this keeps going, there'll soon be a monopoly in the high-end console market.
I'm going to sound like those who defend Microsoft no matter what anti-competitive practices they engage in but this is nowhere near a monopoly, nor will it become one any time soon. Sony is present in many markets, and is nothing resembling anything near a monopoly in any one of them...

The only people who seem to doubt/forget that Sony is the biggest gaming company in the world are Playstation fans.

Ah, the downplaying of profit(the most important business metric) has already begun.

Sony even turning a profit in a launch year with huge investments is incredible and never happened. Profit doesn't paint an accurate picture at all, if Sony didn't invest, their costs would be much lower and have a higher profit. Without investing for the future, you will not grow as a company. More revenue > more possibility/leverage to invest > higher chance of growing as a company.

And playstation's division alone is bigger than Nintendo, hiding behind profits won't change that fact.

Ah, the downplaying of profit(the most important business metric) has already begun.
Profits are a very important business metric, but in a gaming forum it might sour people when it comes also thanks to cutting costs and re selling ported content at high prices (look at all these profits and the 30+ Million Animal Crossings: New Horizons sales and the dry/low effort post launch support for it… but yes that helps keep the profit margins up).

Amazing set of numbers. Particularly impressed at the pace at which they're shipping out PS5 in light of Xbox's numbers. This will only get better when supply manages to catch up to demand.

Also very impressed by the PS Plus attach rate to PS5. 87% is much better than I expected, though I suspect that number will trend down as more casuals get their hands on the console.

Outselling the PS4 during a pandemic and semiconductor shortage. PS5 is just beasting. Also worth calling out that there have now been more games sold on the PS4 than any other console in history topping the PS2. I feel like Sony just keeps setting new industry records every time they report quarterly or fiscal year results. Anyone that says Jim Ryan doesn't know what he's doing is delusional. That guy was the reason why Sony dominated Europe for generations and now he's the head honcho of it all.

I think this is Jim Ryan's time to shine. He was handed over a very well run Sony gaming division with a product that basically sells itself (PS4 console, the highly successful slate of first-party AAA(A) games). His only goal was not to screw up the PS5 launch (which he did well) and fend off an eventual Microsoft comeback under a better leadership (this remains to be seen given how nascent the gen is to date). So I'd say he's done OK so far on balance, but we'll only be able to assess his performance a few years down the line.

If you want to look at the markets individually, that user isn't completely wrong.
Xbox heavily relies on the US and UK markets (and a few in Latin America), but other than those, Sony sells a lot, lot more it's not even funny.
Obviously there's also Nintendo, but I think that user was talking about Sony/Xbox.

Q4 2020 - Gaming Revenue (in millions)

Sony $8,786

PlayStation $8,452
Mobile Gaming $334

Tencent $7,188
Smartphone $5,625
PC Client $1,563
What's the definition of gaming that you are using?

Clearly ZhugeEX is using something different

Yeah, with such profits we cannot expect big acquisitions in the near future. Even juggernaut which is Playstation, outselling Xbox One more than 2:1 and Series X (less than 2:1) for the year their revenues are 25 bln (Playstation) and 15 bln (Xbox), with 3 bln profit for Playstation. 3 bln profit for Playstation, year(!).

They will buy something for music and videos though :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Very interesting to see the next year.
