IDK about this forecast. It implies that Ragnarok will launch several months before March 2022. Maybe the game is way further along than I expected.
I still think Ragnarök is gonna get delayed to early 2022, I’d be shocked if we actually see Horizon AND God of War come out this year, I think Horizon’s coming out Fall 2021 instead.

And regarding God of War‘s development time, they were working on a sequel since 2018 so that’s 3 years of development time which is enough. Plus, they didn’t have to rewrite their engine from scratch like they did for God of War (2018), which was the main reason it actually took that long to develop.

On a more serious note, that's insane. Imagine if there was true supply, I do wish MS would release hardware sales numbers as it would give us something else to talk about, I'd say within 1-2 years, PS+ could be sitting about about 60+ million if the trend continues.

Why are they forecasting a decrease in sales of non-first-party titles and add-on content? That seems weird.
Maybe they are expecting third parties to go next-gen only and not being able to keep up?
i think Sony knows that some of the big titles might be getting delayed this year. Perhaps a big hitter like Call of Duty (+ there are rumors).

This only proves that the demand is extremely higher than last gen, much higher. Crazy numbers indeed and their goal was 7.4M by the end of the fiscal year but they managed to have 400K extra. This demand extends to xbox, gaming PC as well. It's great that many though mobile games actually will make consoles irrelevant, which is not the case.
Turns out people still want traditional gaming console experience in 2021. Who would have thought! /s

Wonder what drives it’s sales. I am poised to sell mine and I am still able to get really good money for it.

It’s only really worth getting for Demons Souls as is now. Games being €80 for itreally hurt it for me. Demon's Souls is great though and still the reigning king of the new gen systems but was it worth getting one for it it? Kinda maybe yes but after finishing it like 3 times with platinum trophy im done with the game.
And after also playing upgraded Sekiro in 60 fps a bunch it has gone largely unused for weeks and weeks.

I will probably pick one up again in 2 years or so when more games are out I wanna play. Neither Returnal or Ratchet and Clank are games I’m gonna pay up €80 for.

You can find 3rd party websites selling those same games at 60-65 Euros. Someone posted some of these.

It depends from country to country, I would say that in Japan mobile gaming has already made the consoles kind of irrelevant. I am living in Japan, but am forced to play mostly mobile games (for me Switch), because the culture here is different. A majority of people commute to work here using trains or buses and here in Japan a very long commuting time its very common. I myself need to commute nearly 2 hours one way and many people have even longer commuting times. So you nearly have no free time at home and therefore gaming time is mainly restricted to the commuting times, where you only have the choice between your phone or switch.
Don't get me wrong, I would love to play more console games, but for me and many other Japanese it's not a real option.

In America or other countries people tend to commute more by car and if not, they have mostly a shorter commuting time, where it's not really worth to play. So for the foreseeable future I cannot see consoles getting irrelevant, because they will always be more powerful than mobile phones due to the different sizes.

Great input. I would really love it if this new PlayStation Mobile sub-division port PSP/Vita games to Android/iOS at reasonable prices like $1-10 each. I can see a massive potential and it'll add so much variety to a market occupied by heavy, abusive MTX.

Well, scalpers don’t buy games. Why should they?
Yes, scalpers bought the majority of systems and they still do, but people will buy the consoles from them to play games and these will need to buy games.

Personally I still prefer boxed games, but I understand that most people (especially younger people) don't care and the boxed market is dying slowly. But to be honest, it feels hard to explain why I prefer to have the boxed version, an argument that I want to play the game without the need to download something is not working anymore, because most games are shipped broken and urgently require a patch to work properly. I miss the old times, where games were only pressed and shipped, when they were really finished and there were only some minor bugs if any left.
