Microsoft reports strong Surface, Xbox, and cloud growth for Q3 2021

I stopped trying to play earnings calls... this market is so weird. Microsoft beat, but apparently... they didn't beat enough. They're down during after-hours trading. Such a weird market. I think once the suits realize that these are really good numbers, it'll get that money back and then some... maybe time to play some option calls 🤔

When are you buying in? Stocks like MSFT, APPLE etc where i'm confident they'll be beating estimations I always buy more before the earnings

Saying the Xbox business is healthy or financially in best condition it's ever been in in history is baseless and fanboy drivel as you do not have any proof to back this up without hard numbers such as profit, software and hardware numbers and gamepass profitability. Microsoft hides these numbers for this very reason.

And funny you keep mentioning MS entire business having more profit than the PS division since its not relevant to the discussion (gaming). You feel the need to compensate for the lack of Xbox numbers?

Anything else?
Because I see stonks

Sorry. I'm backtracking.
"Poor Microsoft, how can they afford to feed that loosing Xbox business quarter after quarter..."
Better?

Calm down. Sony is the king. They have highest revenue, most consoles sold etc. etc. You can go to sleep with calm mind. And let people who know how to run a business run it.
All I care about is, that Nadella is first CEO of Microsoft that is firmly standing behind Xbox division without question. And it's starting to show.

Microsoft CFO just said they expect Xbox content and services to decline by mid-single digit year-over-year in the next quarter.

Real life isn't about console warring. Microsoft isn't hiding shit; we've already told you why Microsoft isn't disclosing numbers in details.

What about Apple? Are they not disclosing iPhone or iPad sales because they are afraid of Samsung's or Huawei's sales?

Apple stopped reporting unit sales of Iphones when Samsung and Huawei outsold the Iphones worldwide in Unit sales. Coincidence? Same like when Sony embarrassed Microsoft with the PS4 , they stopped showing numbers.

I usually only play options, either calls or puts when it comes to earnings. It's way more risky, but the rewards are potentially higher.

If I was going to buy Call for MSFT, I'd probably buy it tomorrow at market open. I'd play a longer Call, maybe a month or so out, very close to ITM cause these guys move but not that much... not like a Tesla.

Apple is definitely projected to beat and by quite a bit. But this market is so hard to read. I was going to play some Put Options on Intel, cause I didn't think they'd beat... but I got busy with work and my order didn't fill before market close. I also missed the Viacom plummet (I was looking at it a couple days before it started it's fall) 🤦‍♂️ but it is what it is... you can't catch everything.

Disclaimer, this is not financial advice :messenger_tears_of_joy: If you lose money "Don't sue me, bro" :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Microsoft actually stopped reporting numbers in 2014, and at that point the XB1 wasnt doing to badly against PS4, if i remember right.
Fact is the business is different these days compared to old gens where you only got money from hardware sales and game sales. There are so many other services, apps, licenses, etc, where they get money from gaming. Console sales is very 'old school', and doesnt tell you the full picture. In fact console sales are only really good for tiresome console wars these days.

True, but unit sales become less relevant when Apple controls something like 70-75% of total mobile profits. Apple has never been gunning for sale supremacy, so as long as they retain their pricing power.

Microsoft is headed there with GamePass and xCloud, where unit sales will become less and less relevant and it'll be more about daily/monthly active userbase across platforms instead.

Did Nadella mention anything in the earnings call about the hidden cost of Microsoft's performance causing threads to erupt across the enthusiast gaming space, in which children and adults-who-act-like-children respond to the tiniest bit of positivity around Xbox with a shrieking chorus of 'SONY IS KING AND HERE IS WHY'?

That's more important than hearing about Gamepass numbers or whatever bullshit people are obsessed with.

The same people that were complaining about Microsoft's hiding xbox profits number are the same people who will ignore Nintendo and Playstation profits number and only talk about revenues number instead when both companies released their financial report.

Since MS won't say anything about XSeries launch aligned numbers. Then i will rely on this one :

So, falling behind.
Why is the supply constrained and hard to find XSX (and to a lesser extent the XSS) being compared to the freely available XB1?

Yea, sue them :messenger_tears_of_joy: I'm just some dude on a video game forum.

Options will do that to you! It's rough if you can't sit and watch it. It'll turn on you real quick. I found that If I have a plan more often than not, it should work out... emphasis on "should" 10-20% return on an Option play is good, take profit. Unfortunately they can't all be GME/AMC rockets with over 100% returns... although those are very sweet LOL

The boring stuff is good too, unless you're holding Tesla, it's been a roller coaster!

I don't get the interest with aquiring sega

Is it just for that weeb trash persona? Cause I no know one gives a shit about sonic lol
Ticks a lot of boxes for me personally.

Football Manager and Total War for PC Game Pass, and console in respect of Football Manager.

Control over some hot Japanese IP in Persona, Yakuza and Shin Megami Tensei.

An actual mascot in Sonic, and the entire catalogue of Sonic games on Game Pass alongside the Sonic Racing games.

They’d have immediate access to a massive library of retro games from tonnes of franchises like Streets of Rage and Virtua Fighter to put on Game Pass.

Fills a lot of gaps in their current offerings.

Just looking now and they actually sit on so many classic games, and many of them are already playable of Series S/X - Valkyria Chronicles, Alex Kidd, Crazy Taxi, Golden Axe, Fantasy Star, Bayonetta 1, Shinobi, Panzer Dragoon, Super Monkey Ball, Shenmue, Nights, Vanquish, The Cave. They’d go from basically owning 0 legacy content beyond Rareware’s IP to an absolute truck load - good for Game Pass.

Profit is part of the picture, but not the whole picture. You need revenue, software, hardware, and subscription to paint the whole picture. I mean, Nintendo made profit with the Gamecube and WII U :messenger_grinning_sweat:

Forgot about the PC stuff, yeah the Total War series would be pretty good for their PC area

I wanted to play Warhammer but I can't stand mouse and keyboard so i'd love if they did some porting magic to bring it to Xbox

Does Nintendo need to compete with PS? No, that's the play that Xbox are trying to make but with a service strategy.
Is this a fucking joke post?

Nintendo is absolutely competing with Xbox and PS. PS has the largest user base of the three.
Would Nintendo and Xbox be happy if PS loses some of that user base? Who would those gamers flock to if they started deviating from PS products and services?
PS clearly has the upper hand in terms of exclusive software and Xbox just purchased Bethesda. Why would they need to invest heavily in their own 1st party studios if not to compete directly with PS.

And who's to say PS is not also planning to expand to a services strategy to complement their existing business model? The competition is not stagnant. Sony has a lot riding on PS and they are absolutely aware of the threat Xbox poses to their golden goose. PS is flexing and moving just as much as Xbox. We've already seen PS games starting to hit PC and talk of a game pass competitor has not been ignored by PS.

Thank-you! That is very considerate of you.

I have to say, it has been pretty great being a Microsoft shareholder these last few years. After the 2001 Dot Com bubble, I never imagined the their stock would end up higher than the pre-bubble level.

The only way is up from here baby

I'm going to retire by 34 thanks to Microsoft, Amazon and Apple

Then I can spend the rest of my days laughing at my peasent friends

Oh, cut the crap, man. I'm pretty sure you know that proper comparison with different console generations is launch aligned. Link i've provided you is an example, date of the article isn't matter.

+232% would be much impressive if we didn't know that One S and One X sold very low numbers the last FY. And that's a fucking fact
Another indisputable fact is that supply is constrained across all electronics. So while yes, Xbox One sales were low, sales of Series consoles are artificially low right now. Sales would be higher if TSMC could keep up with orders from AMD. Rather convenient of you to omit this....

THE DUCK

They should buy Sega and make a true next gen virtual fighter and sonic games.
You would think thus gen we could see a fighting game with truly stunning graphics if done right .....

And I'm sure Ferrari would love it if they got the other 99.99% of global car sales.

Or if Ford (who skews heavy to pick ups) suddenly got people who buy Honda Civics to switch.

You make it sound easy and sales can easily switch it up per brand like there is one homogenous target audience that can be all or nothing. Not that easy. Companies do what they want to focus on.

True. But not all products have to be profitable. And not necessarily any time soon.

My company has sold products for over 10 years that breaks even at best, but most years it loses. In dairy, most companies don't make anything selling the cheap milk or shitty low price cheese blocks. They make profits on higher priced brands and specialty variations.

If profit was the ultimate goal, Sony wouldn't be selling TVs. They must had had a 10 year stretch where they lost $10 billion, but stuck it out and now they make money. Long term game.
