The Wii U and GameCube are Nintendo's sunken consoles that both had many games that fans really liked, but the systems themselves couldn't get the support needed to sell significantly.

These two are constantly on the top of many gamers and news outlets "most underrated" lists.
But which of the two actually had the better games?

Gamecube. It wasn't good for it to be your only console back then, but it was a great supplementary console. I say this while also not liking either of it's Zelda games.

GameCube was better all the way around. Better for its time, better in the amount of games, better in the quality of games, and better when compared to the competition of that generation. It's actually a shame that the GameCube didn't do better. I have a lot of nostalgia for that entire generation across all three of the consoles (all 4 if you include Dreamcast). Wii U had some great games, but they were far and few between and the Wii U does not stack up to competitors during the same gen at all.

As one of the twelve people that owned a Wii U, it's the Gamecube.

Wii U is literally a prototype Switch that idiots like me bought because it was weird as fuck and looked like a Fisher Price toy.

I love some of the games on WiiU. Breath of the wild, Wonderful 101, Bayonetta 2, Tropical Freeze. I actually like the exclusive lineup more than the one of the Switch.

But Gamecube was a way better console. Nicer design and great hardware for the time.

C’mon, not even a contest. Only one had Metroid Prime and Super Smash Bros Melee on it.

Was gonna write Wind waker but realized Wii U actually had the HD version on it.

The Gamecube is one of my all time favourite consoles. The Wii U is the worst console I've ever owned.

I love Metroid Prime and Rogue Squadron, but I'll go with the Wii U...
Botw, Splatoon and MK8 are 3 of the greatest games I've ever played (and I've more than 4k hours of gameplay on these 3). Plus, we have Mario Maker, M3DW and DKTF.

I loved my resident evil 4 special edition Gamecube. Baiten Kaitos and Fire Emblem were my favorites. Never played the Wii U.

Gamecube wins, but Wii U is a seriously good machine. The Wii U pushed Nintendo in a way that I love. I don't know if we would have gotten games like Breath of the Wild and Mario Odyssey without a desperate Nintendo that could no longer rest on its laurels. I believe the Wii U pushed Nintendo in the best way possible.

Both good consoles. My least favorite Nintendo consoles were the Wii and the N64 (despite having a couple really great games).

Might have to go with Wii U for me. Splatoon, Bayonetta 2, Devils Third, Mario 3D, Breath of the Wild, Zombie U, Starfox Zero, Tropical Freeze, Captain Toad, Xenoblade Chronicles X, Tokyo Mirage, Twilight Princess HD, Wind Waker HD, Fatal Frame, Metroid Prime Trilogy, Mario Kart Motherfucking 8, Wonderful 101, Pikmin 3, Smash 4, Kirby Rainbow Curse, Hyrule Warriors, Nintendoland. MiiVerse, the greatest online setup for any console. All the Virtual Console games from every era that can be played on TV or gamepad (even GBA games). All the third party indies. Wii backwards compatibility as well (including the best version of RE4). Its a black box that just does nothing but spit out 10/10 masterpieces.

GameCube hits for me were RE4, Sunshine, Twilight Princess, Wind Waker, REmake, and F-Zero.

The Gamecube was an awesome system. My favorite of that generation, it truly went underappreciated at the time.

The Wii U was hot garbage.

The Wii U was hot garbage.

It had several extremely high quality titles, so no.

Miiverse was a blast, the controller(s) was solid, first HD Nintendo system, the software was fire (and continues to sell like hotcakes if you wanna look at the Switch ports/remasters for reference), it came with a Wii, it supported the Virtual Console still, gyro aim was and is great, the off TV stuff was pretty crazy for the time, etc.

Wii U was awesome.

the GameCube actually had third party support, it also was pretty bad compared to Xbox and PS2 in that department but it was still way better than the Wii U

GameCube had a lot of parity with the other consoles in 3rd party support. Not as much as PS2 obviously but you could get a lot of the same games they had WITH comparable graphics. Wii U had a year with comparable graphics and then PS4/One came out.

I could go either way but the Wii U is amazing no matter what anyone says. Leaving aside the native games themselves then it plays almost everything that Nintendo has ever made.

No other system allows me to play DS games on a tube TV.

I'd go with Wii U as I think 3D World is better than Sunshine by a meaningful margin. Also, BOTW and Mario Kart 8 are tops in their series. Rogue Squadron 2 almost swayed me to voting Gamecube though. That's one of the best launch titles of all time.

Wii U, as it had backwards compatibility with the Wii and had the Virtual Console.

Gamecube sold better though so the market disagrees with me.

Easily Gamecube.

Nintendo's issue with it was more so the install base simply moved to handheld. The market for 3rd party games was pretty much now owned by Sony and MS and that would continue to the point of Nintendo now only making Portables with HDMI outs.

Gamecube was the beginning of that. Look at the great IP that came out on all systems then, look at the fan bases that CONTINUED to support those 3rd party IP ON OTHER SYSTEMS. Its hard to be a fan of something like Splinter Cell if you buy a gamecube and then continue to see its sequels skip those platforms. It was the beginning of the end of that meat of support, but to no real fault of Nintendo as their handheld base was simply superior....now Wii U on the other hand, all the fuck ups on that system are at the fault of Nintendo.

Wow that game cube list is about 70% MMMTASTY BANGERS

Wii U list has some old 360 games and a couple of platinum bangers but not too much

I think the specs and the focus of the Wii had more to do with third party games like Splinter Cell skipping Nintendo platforms than anything else,

thinks Halo Infinite is a new graphical benchmark
GameCube wasn’t ever popular Wii U was huge around BOTW and was near future proof (screen controller like Switch) I actually appreciate the controller in games like Twilight Princess, that utilizes its controller.

Wii U. Nintendo's best console since the SNES.

Most notably because it's easily soft modded and can run GCN games. Also has a vastly superior controller, yes, I said it.

Seriously, lets acknowledge that most people have never played the Wii U. Sales figures back that up. The hate it gets defies logic.

All those are playable on the WiiU and can be bought off the eShop at this very moment.
Yeah but they were made/designed for the GameCube first and i enjoyed them there, my memories of playing RE4 are on the cube. Although Wii U has Twilight Princess HD and Wind Waker HD👌

I mean sure, if we count the Wii compatibility, add the whole library and VC then Wii U wins 🤔but that doesn't seem very fair 🤭
