Behold! Photorealism and Impressive Graphics Next Gen Example Thread!

Edit: I have added another example I enjoyed visually - if you have an example you would like
added to this thread post for easier viewing just write that or something short like that in your post!

I think it has become increasingly important to underscore impressive next gen examples as time moves forward.

Particularly because "Next Gen" is not scheduled to officially begin on Console Hardware until 2022.

And I am graphic enthusiast of the most extreme variant.

With that said, I think this *NEW* near perfect photoreal example (which isn't in fact perfect, but still amazing) is a good way to start such a thread!

Edit: I'd like to say one last thing - cuz hype. I like It.
Never before have we had the chance to go from the fairly amazing graphics seen currently this gen in upcoming releases, to making massive scale leaps that can only be described as simply astounding or better yet
- as indescribable - within the same generation. That's why I think it's worth getting people excited about - because we are going to go from simply Amazing graphics that are already worth talking about at volume, and then quickly achieve a level of visual fidelity most have only ever dreamt of and that event is going to occur within the same generation. We are very lucky in that respect, and it's worth the excitement I think.

Please post other examples and enjoy!

I don't really think that's a great example tbh. Just pausing it and it still looks animated/not real.

Oh I said it isn't perfect, as the other user pointed out - the reflections dithering in and out are an obvious oversight but if you pause in the correct place - it still looks photoreal.

And whether or not it is perfect, it is far beyond superior to anything else seen in gaming currently.

And other examples of Next Gen please old or new!

Tag, you're it.
It still looks cartoony. Is that the next Ubisoft open world game?
Literally below the video:
"I've been studying Unreal in my spare time since the beginning of this year. This is my first personal project with it. The environment was created from scratch.
There still a lot of technical issues and visible mistakes that I need to solve and things I still need to learn, but overall I really enjoyed the challenge. I was really impressed how far we can push the game engine"

Anyway this looks very cool, I agree those reflections are the main problem but damn the overall result is solid.

Man impressive video. I wonder if we will get any open world games this gen that come close to that level. I'd say probably not due to the work involved, but you never know if they use procedural generation to generate the more wilderness areas of an open world map.

I think we are lucky if we get visuals that match this, but even luckier because particularly with more to come from ML bolstered techniques - we should be able to exceed what is seen here in sheer granular magnitude of detail within
this current generation - if developers opt to deliver visuals over performance ever this gen - then expect most segments seen here to be exceeded. And hopefully not any later than by 2022.

Very nice demo, but it's littered with techniques we already have seen. The textures in that demo aren't that high res and the DOF hides it. I love the lighting though. Demo is definitely taxing on hardware as the FPS is really low (probably in the teens). The best photoreal example that's actually realized in realtime is by far FS2020.

Another "Next Gen" Example - however I do not know if this is Realtime, I do not see why it can't be - I've added it to the Original Post!

Also if you find an example and would like me to add it to the top of the thread/the original thread post, just write it in the reply and I gladly will!

Guys, none of these demos will ever be in console games this generation. Just FYI.
You guys are picky lol, that looks really good to me. Is it real time though?
No. It's definitely in the teens. When you have the camera up that close, the shaders are getting run in most of the entire resolution. It's way too demanding even on the PC hardware (which I'm sure this demo was done on). We won't be seeing stuff like this in this generation in game form.

It is solid, especially for a one off, but it is oversaturated.

Much like how we thought GTA 3 was "realistic".

I should insert my Unreal crash black box here. I used to praise the fck out of Unreal 4 when first released(almost everything ran great/ looked great), but almost anything attached the last year has been unstable AF.

I don't feel it's too hard now to achieve these kinds of graphics.

The question is if this kind of detail can be achieved in a scene with many characters, particle effects, animations and physics to go with it.

Even with PS4 games, environments have been pretty convincing. But when it comes to animations and physics, it usually isn't even remotely photo realistic.

Looking at two of Sony's next gen exclusives we can forget about achieving photorealistic graphics like that. We'll probably get closer on Sony's part as everyone else will have to support abomination that is Series S.

Horizon is cross gen and native 4k. And ratchet is native 4k.

Both games are wasting half of the gpu rendering 8 million pixels when they could just use 4kcb or 1440p temporal injection.

What you are seeing are essentially 5 tflops games. Ratchet is also wasting a lot of the gpu in ray traced reflections.

It's pretty much just a concept and lots of effects, but I'm optimistic this type of photorealistic graphics will come some time soon (with this game or something else).

Graphics of this caliber are in fact more than possible I'd think, at worst - at the modest bare intervals seen in the video. But, I've seen enough from the hardware teased -
that infers we will see graphics exceed what is seen in this video if developers so choose to tap out the hardware. And I'm certain they eventually will.

I think MS would Like to have a word with you

But on a serious note, I'm sure Elder Scrolls 6 (and possibly 7, remember they released both Oblivion which was impressive and then Skyrim which was far more impressive - in the same generation)
will succeed in delivering. As will Possibly Fable and Avowed.

Bethesda: Pretty sweet, eh?

Microsoft: Sure is. Make it run on that. (points to little white box)

Bethesda: On ... on the Xbox Series S? Nah, you're kidding, right?

Microsoft: (keeps expression even)

Bethesda: oh my god.

We've seen nothing but CGI for the games you mentioned, which obviously has nothing to do with how games are actually going to look.

1440p60 or dynamic 4K60 is an option (along with 4K30) with Ratchet and other next gen exclusives, something we wouldn't really consider a waste of resources, unless you want next gen games to be 1440p30 and 1080p60.

Every time someone says this about a tech demo, someone at Sony finds a way to prove them wrong by the end of the generation.

I dont really get the sony worship for technical stuff when just this last year you had Cyberpunk, Half Life Alyx and Flight Simulator far above anything sony has ever done, including tlou2, which was really jarring personally with how flat and wrong the lightning looks in interiors especially. Once you train your eye with proper ray traced illumation, contact shadows and ambient occlusion every mistep in baked lightning which tlou2 uses just punches you in the eye. Coupled that with the extremely tight and narrow locals of the game, tlou2 ends up being a pretty middle of the road as visual prowess goes.

Plus a lot of the visual impact comes from the artwork. Cold, wet colours, being 3rd person you see everything from a distance so they can get away with much more than a first person game can. In Cyberpunk, you need visual fidelity that holds up at 2 cm distance if the player so chooses to look at it

Just look at this

I think 1440p 60 or 4kcb 60 is a waste of resources. The consoles are the lowest common denominator holding back an entire gen. If i want to play games at 60 fps, i can buy a pc or even a mid gen console upgrade in a couple of years.

What i don't want is devs utilizing only 5 tflops to do 1440p 30 fps And use the rest on either pushing pixels or framerate. Id rather it go towards more physics, more npcs, more effects and a more photorealistic presentation. There is always pc for those who want 60 fps.

I cry about Xbox and hate PlayStation.
looks like PS6 or PS7 tp me, seems like its more suitable for cg or movies, doubt it runs well as an actual game, a high end gaming PC would explode let alone a gaming console.
