Let me just close down our main Japanese studio, cancel Days Gone 2 because it's not blockbuster enough, and put a bunch of games on PC first. Trust me though guys!
Basically semantic differences. I leave you to pick which words you want to use, but we're describing the same thing.Isn't DG2 put on hold and Studio Japan ( of course, some devs left) is reorganized and merged with Astrobot team?
everyone entitled to an opinion but this post not going to age well for you lolLet me just close down our main Japanese studio, cancel Days Gone 2 because it's not blockbuster enough, and put a bunch of games on PC first. Trust me though guys!
I can only go off what I see with my own eyes. If he starts making some decisions that lead to more games, I'm happy to be wrong.everyone entitled to an opinion but this post not going to age well for you lol
He said, "we believe in generations" because the PS5 generation is bringing new technologies, i.e., DualSense, I/O & SSD, PSVR 2 etc. When did he say that we won't have any cross-gen games and all our games will be next-gen only?"we belive in generations" and after that declaration Horizon Forbidden West turns out to be crossgen
what? ps5 came out in november. theres already a nice selection of games released in this time frame and more on the horizon that we 'know' about. Im not even talking about backlog from ps4 games either, thats just overkill. what are you talking about? please elaborate.I can only go off what I see with my own eyes. If he starts making some decisions that lead to more games, I'm happy to be wrong.
Sony need to build or aquire a Japanese studio.
Its amazing that this and Miles gets bought up...but any PS5 exclusive that has already launched just gets dismissed."we belive in generations" and after that declaration Horizon Forbidden West turns out to be crossgen
yep i also like how hardly anyone mentions the malaysia studio. They are just quietly chizzling away at there new gameI'd say they don't need to. Sony already has 2 Japanese development studios, plus the mobile gaming one. And basically every known Japanese 3rd party company (big or small, publisher or dev) released or will release at least one exclusive PS4 game. And basically all the other 3rd party Japanese console games were multi, so they also got them on PS4.
And cross-gen PS4 games. Remember "we believe in generations'?
I'm starting to believe ppl really are having selective amnesia, lol.Not every game will be cross gen like Ratchet and Clank.
I think that's a support studio right now. Not 100% sure though.yep i also like how hardly anyone mentions the malaysia studio. They are just quietly chizzling away at there new game
He got misquoted as if he was saying that there wouldn't be crossgen games on PS5, when obviously they are. He was saying that wants to see he games on PS5 taking advantage of its unique next gen features, but that they will continue supporting PS4 during several years because there is, and for a while there will be, a huge active fanbase there.the problem is that those statements were given in contrast (to make them look like a better position) to the news that was circulating at the time on all media, that on Xbox for the first period (as happened all gen) there would be no exclusive nextgens . Obviously Jimbo's words were just PR as both companies behaved in the exact same way and both were based mainly on cross gen games.
But yes yes, the press and the fanboys have done their part by magnifying all of this. It is clear that you can not forget makes 100 million users overnight and the only difference between Sony and ms and "I know y had more titles ready. Ms only had the medium but if she had more I'm sure she would have let out without thinking twice. He got misquoted as if he was saying that there wouldn't be crossgen games on PS5, when obviously they are. The reality is they are releasing many games -crossgen or not- that take advantage of these unique PS5 features, and that they continue supporting PS4, so he didn't lie. His strategy is different than the MS one in the way that they are supporting the next gen not only with crossgen, indies and multis, but also with big releases both exclusive and crossgen. Don't forget Sony has Astro, Demon's Souls, Destruction All Stars, Returnal or Ratchet.
First, they didn't close it.Then closes a studio that helped make these games. From Wiki:

He explained it very well in that same interview. He said they had over 100M active users in PS4 and even if PS5 sells at gaming history records during its few years only less than 20M will have shifted to PS5 in the first couple of years, and all the other ones will continue with PS4.But yes yes, the press and the fanboys have done their part by magnifying all of this. Quality > QuantityWith Xbox now having 20+ studios - I sure hope and expect PS to have more exclusives than they did with PS4.
Xbox are catching up very fast and every year that does by and the war chest opens is a step closer to Xbox vastly overtaking with exclusives
It's because we don't know anything about the studio. Probably they are a support studio helping the other ones. Or who knows, maybe they are working on their own game. Let's wait and see if they announce something about them.yep i also like how hardly anyone mentions the malaysia studio. They are just quietly chizzling away at there new game
the problem for Jim is that this time for the first time in the history of the two consoles are rivaling Microsoft in full force. I don't think Sony can rival a Microsoft in terms of megaton and hunting lions and we have clearly seen it with the day one releases on gamepass or with the various acquisitions and above all with Bethesda, let's be honest the only advantage Sony has at the moment is brand recognition but that doesn't create megatons. I personally think Microsoft is not done with the acquisitionsI have the distinct feeling that a lot of people around these parts are going to be shoveling big fat crows in their face when e3 time rolls around and Jim drops the megatons. Quiet Sony is like a hunting lioness preparing to pounce for the kill.

...Sony has released exclusive games for PS5 tho....and one coming next week..the problem for Jim is that this time for the first time in the history of the two consoles are rivaling Microsoft in full force. I agree with you the history of crossgen has been magnified by the media and on the forums. But it always works like this, for everyone. Especially when a message is unclear to your userbase.First, they didn't close it.
Second, since 2015 from all these games only The Last Guardian and Knack 2 (plus Gravity Rush and Astro's Playrooom) were developed by them.
All the other games were 2nd party games developed by external studios, and Sony will continue 2nd party games. But now instead of handling 2nd party publishing locally from Sony Japan Studio, Sony Santa Monica etc, they merged all their publishing into the global PlayStation Studios publishing team.
He explained it very well in that same interview. He said they had over 100M active users in PS4 and even if PS5 sells at gaming history records during its few years only less than 20M will have shifted to PS5 in the first couple of years, and all the other ones will continue with PS4.
So he said that for this reason they were going to continue supporting PS4 during at least 2 or 3 years after the PS5 release.
Xbox released too ...and?But....the PS5 has exclusive games that already launched. And 2 more coming soon....
How did they behave in the same exact way....?
Who thought it meant no cross gen games, when Sony has never done that? They always support their last gen home console for a few years.
...Sony has released exclusive games for PS5 tho....and one coming next week..
Only advantage Sony has is brand recognition?
What world are you living in?
lets keep a studio that doesnt produce good enough content and or make a good amount of its money back.....says no one ever.Shutting down Japan Studio is unforgivable and he should be fired for that alone.
I mean would you greenalite a multi million dollar project if the pitch was bad.....this is why they are in charge and you are not.Just damage control with all the bad press about things like shooting down Days Gone 2 and another tlou remake.
Don't expect him to say anything different.
Oh crap what I wrote sounded really wrong. I meant that not all games will be cross gen and Ratchet is an example of them. Not that Ratchet is a Crossgen game.I'm starting to believe ppl really are having selective amnesia, lol.
Like....when did "we believe in generations" became a hard declaration meaning "there will be no cross gen games"
?
...Sony has never done that before, ever....
What they have always done tho, is have exclusives for their next gen console within the first year.
For example, was anyone seriously thinking MLB The Show would be PS5 only?
As far as cross gen vs exclusives...only MS came out with a definite answer to that.
Definite answer: thats not what he meant.
No definite answer: he lied.
lol.
just because they still support PS4 which btw sits at 120 mil strong compared to Phil’s Xbox at 40 mil , ofcourse they want to support that massive userbase. Only a moron wouldnt. And cross-gen PS4 games. Remember "we believe in generations'?
They aren't the ones promoting a next gen console so they don't have to make a next gen only game right now.Its amazing that this and Miles gets bought up...but any PS5 exclusive that has already launched just gets dismissed.
There is another one next week....and in June.
How many major devs, major publishers have a next gen only game right now?
Exactly.
This is new old Sony. Confident in their approach and arrogant in their response to Microsoft. I've made up my mind, I'll shave when I wake up.Key word, quietly. They are market leader they act whilst MS has to react.
Also is this old sony or new sony? I'm confused on which way gaf wants to take this, are they confident or arrogant? Make up your mind neck beards
BTW Is Demon Souls on PS4?
so old sony is goat sonyThey aren't the ones promoting a next gen console so they don't have to make a next gen only game right now.

You sir, are a fish!I will smash that Sardine.
Because you don't understand why MS is supporting this now. MS actively rejected crossplay during the 360 era. Why? Because they had the install base back then. Things like this is all about something called vendor lock-in. They are supporting this now because they are on the other foot. They want switching to xbox to be less difficult whereas before they wanted it to be more difficult to switch to PS especially with the year headstart. The fact that we have crossplay with the PS4 is something that is pro-consumer. They could have been real bastards about it.Doesn't really help that Sony was the first with it, only to ditch it later. They should have sticked with it.
The thing I said, or meant, is Microsoft does so much right by supporting this where Sony the last couple of years outright are against things like these.
ReMAke, but you already knew that. Anyways you got rekt
The ghost of 70 bucks. The Ghost of PlayStation
While not untrue; the entire company has had a culture shift when it comes to exclusivity. They are now by some measures the largest contributors to open source.. they have much better support for non-MS operating systems.. because they are now focused on pure scale as a company, having their products everywhere as much as possible, w/o "proprietary from top down" approach they had before.Because you don't understand why MS is supporting this now. Don't you tell me what I understand or not. I am well aware why Sony hesitated, only a moron couldn't figure that out.Because you don't understand why MS is supporting this now.
No, I was agreeing with you, lol.Oh crap what I wrote sounded really wrong. I meant that not all games will be cross gen and Ratchet is an example of them. Not that Ratchet is a Crossgen game.
Sony will slowly cut out the PS4 and at some point there will only be PS5 games from their studios. It's something that they do every generation. Demon Souls Remake is exclusive to the PS5 and there has been and will be more exclusive PS5 games.
