Yamauchi: I intend to continue with Gran Turismo, but also want to make something else

The same could be said of Turn 10, that studio has talent, a lot of resources and only ever makes Forza Motorsport, yet a lot of people would say they're happy making that game, you could argue that the same is probably true of Polyphony Digital.
343i has always made Halo, taking the reigns from Bungy, they didn't even invent that game, yet they're basically making only that for their entire career.

I wouldn't be shocked if these studios have internal divisions making new ideas for new games and their ideas just don't go anywhere beyond the games they're known for publicly.

Any long-term studios that have been a part of a major platform holder and proven themselves to be worth their salt should get a chance to make something new, especially after a decade or more working on the same game franchise.

Agreed.

Static shit like sports and racing makes complete sense to have a team dedicated to that. So teams like PD and T10 make complete sense that they just make stuff like that as its hard enough as it is to be having the team randomly making new IPs or something. Having a team do many new IPs is more easier with progressive concepts vs static ones.

ok but, Sony closed the team for a reason. I don't think its because they hate racing games.

If they had a reason to close that team, I don't see why they'd then leave them open to do another game to waste even more money...

Think about it like this. If you are remodeling a house and a team fucks up the kitchen to holy hell and it cost you lots of money, you will not then hire them to do another part of the house or another project or something, that doesn't mean you don't need the kitchen complete, it simply means you need it complete...simply NOT FROM THEM. Imagine saying something like "the most reasonable choice" is to get the team that just fucked up our last project. As if ZERO teams exist to do such a task. So I don't think it makes sense if they had a reason that had nothing to do with racing. So clearly Sony saw ENOUGH to say they were not going to deal with such a team, its not for me to say who the fuck "redeemed" themselves in a business deal I was not part of. Internally they likely fucked up enough to were Sony couldn't continue to deal with what was going on. Its clear they don't just hate racing games, they had an issue with the team itself.

Doesn't matter, the point is that Sony clearly doesn't want Evolution studios working on their titles, the point is they can chose a different studio and for all we know they are building that game based on the GT7 engine. PD is known for taking a while to build the first game that they put out on new gen systems, they are known for releasing the second faster once the engine is complete.....soooooooo yea.

Its a shit argument that only applies to the first GT they put out on new gens, not all their games in general.

As in...the difference of time between GT4 and 5 was 6 years.

The difference of time between GT5 and 6 was 3 years... :messenger_winking:
Well if they don't hate racing games they certainly don't love them, because aside from Wipeout Omega (which was probably a low budget project) they didn't make efforts to introduce new or returning racing IP's during the PS4 generation.

I still think that Sony's reaction was too harsh towards Evo Studios. The launch of Driveclub wasn't a total disaster and even though the devs didn't deliver all the promises and it took them additional time (and money) to address the issues and polish the product I'd definitely give them another chance. But hey, maybe it's me not thinking about it like a businessman since I loved Driveclub and I was devastated to see the studio being let go. ;)

Only he actually said he wants to continue making GT. So not "like Kojipro" at all.

But hey keep on spinning and pushing that agenda!
Edit: nvm, i confused you with someone else.
Anyway, i was just talking about Kojipro being chained by fans and Konami to MGS, nothing to do with your "Agenda spinning" conspirancy.

Did you even read what Yamauchi said?? He said that he wants to continue making GT as well as making a new IP. How on earth you made the relation to Kojima (who was forced by Konami to keep on working on MGS ) by implying the same thing applies to Yamauchi as well is really beyond me.

Ok, sure, we can make that distinction. It's not like i said they were the same.

You implied that Yamauchi is like a prisoner at Sony forced to make GT forever.
Well that "Sony" part it's you being touchy, i'm talking about the franchise more so. Just like Kojima was to MGS, it was not only Konami but the fan base of the franchise. You can still see it even here with lots of poster wanting Kojipro to work on the next MGS or saying that DS it's not enough MGS like and wanting something more like that.

I also said, "almost".

Flawed logic. Besides the racing games the put out, they don't put out racing games, besides the ones they put out.

Genius

The fact that this thread is about Yamauchi wanting to do something else shows clearly Sony is still open to a new racing IP.

They simply didn't want it from Evolution.

Thats it....

I don't. This is business, its not about feelings. We know not of how much money they cost the publishers because of their many delays and we don't know their internal issues. It must have been pretty serious for Sony to get rid of the studio after Driveclub as suppose to letting them do another game.

the devs didn't deliver all the promises and it took them additional time (and money) to address the issues

Well yea, thats part of why Sony got rid of them, you can understand that based on what we publicly know, pretty sure shit behind the scenes was much worse for Sony to react the way they did. Clearly they must have been messing up internally for quite some time for Sony to get rid of the whole studio.

But hey, maybe it's me not thinking about it like a businessman
Likely, as I'm not debating anyone liking the IP or wanting sequels or anything like that. I don't see enough to say Sony doesn't like racing games, simply that Evo likely had more problems then we know, as if Sony hated new ideas for racing games, why OK GT Sport? Its not GT7, so clearly Sony is open to those ideas, likely just not from a studio like Evo as those issues took over.

Who knows what team they'll use to make some open world racing game, but with how much Sony ok's open world games, I feel its inevitable.

They might use the Driveclub IP again for a open world racing game for all we know.

Azelover

Titanic was called the Ship of Dreams, and it was. It really was.
Whenever I hear this name, blunt like that.. Yamauchi.. I rememer and think of Hiroshi... The late long-time president and former owner of Nintendo.

You mean you were there and saw that they "fighted"?

Are you Sony? How do you know that Days Gone was considered successful by Sony? Also i thought that your problem was that Jim didn't liked new IPs right? So is it new IPs or sequels that he doesn't like?
Well Days Gone was a new IP but not anymore. Hopefully Bends new game sells at least 8 million or its goodbye I guess.

if I was Jim Ryan I’d him all the creative leeway he wants. I’d say if you finish your next game on time you can make anything you want

(lolz)
