LTTP: Spider-Man Miles Morales 2020 PS5

EverydayBeast

thinks Halo Infinite is a new graphical benchmark

Another game that came out during a pandemic and I'll share my thoughts with you.

Spider-Man Miles Morales continues Marvel Insomniac Games and Sony Interactive Entertainment's 2018's action-adventure Spider-Man game.

I think this game has a super feel to it.

Taking out enemies is a important in super hero games, the world feels large and you get a little of everything (ability upgrades, techniques etc.)
card2.jpg

Had a lot of fun with the map design, very organized with lots of secrets to discover. The world of Harlem, NY is legit, is classified as "open world" but most players will play it linear moving to objective to objective, you're going to admire the scenery just incredible.

Peter Parker and the "OG" Spider-Man are pushed out the door instead Miles and his people are here who is obviously possesses powers similar to those of that Spider-Man which were derived from the bite of a spider. Miles shows he's different, can show emotion, produce under pressure and focus on taking down bad guys like Rhino, Tinkerer, and Prowler.

tumblr_mo55ihdcNH1rn6mb8o1_500.gif

The game's puzzles are very limited here, but they're traditional action adventure average puzzles that push stories forward.

The whole point of the game is wearing different suits, spending time taking down robbery quests, and overwhelming villain's with your powers.

Sony fanboys root for this game because it's an exclusive but it has a sense originality and to tell you the truth I wanna see the game on Xbox One X, exclusives today are hanging over consoles and fanboys. It's an exclusive I get it, but the game is spectacular and another great Insomniac installment. This is a 10/10 game.

Obviously there are things that increase the fidelity of the game - like higher res, refresh rate, texture resolition, model detail, etc - over the 2018 game but I think what most people notice that makes it look so "super" is the simple change of the way the camera works while swinging and during takedowns, its fucking magical how good it looks, like a movie.

If they hadn't performed that one small change I'd probably think it was *more just a DLC for Spiderman 2018 with higher resolution and framerate.

Lol we can't even trust user scores anymore with anti SJW and other mobs leaving reviews when they didn't purchase the game
tbf we are constantly being bombarded by sjw/anti-sjw agenda's across pretty much all mediums of entertainment that I don't blame people for being upset about it being in videogames. Shit gets exhausting constantly being preached at.

The gameplay is fantastic. The Venom powers are so fun to use. The story is good, not great. The dialogue is on high on the cringe side. The social commentary gets old.

But still worth playing just for the gameplay. 8/10 for me

This is a great take on the game honestly. Gameplay was always going to be good since Spiderman PS4 was already amazing, Venom powers were cool, but the game took a stepback for me with the other abilities, they were just better in the first game. Story was decent, nowhere near as good as OG, and you hit it spot on with some of the dialogue in the game. I'm glad I played it, was even happier to replay the remastered Spiderman and dlcs before it.

7.5/10 For me, I am a much harsher judge of games then the "media", worth playing worth buying for sure. We need a world where we stop viewing anything below an 8.5/9 as bad.

I played through both games shortly after getting my PS5. Loved them both, but I preferred the combat of the original Spider-Man. Miles’ powers were too OP so they had to make the enemies powered up as well, which forced you to overly rely on your powers for combat. I liked that they focused more on stealth but again invisibility made it too easy.

Overall a good iteration on the first, looking forward to the next Spider-Man game from these guys.

Did you play Spider-Man? Just with you saying it has a sense of originality? I love the Spider-Man game but wouldn’t say it had originality it was very similar to the Arkham games but that isn’t a bad thing in my book

Yeah....the review scale (in practice) is really screwed up. We are so used to everything getting a 5 or above in reviews that anything below 5 is viewed as utter crap or entirely broken when in reality 5 *should be* average. I've played games that have a metacritic in the 6s and 7s that were great fun. But like you say, some won't give a game with a score less than 8 the time of day. Doesn't make sense to me.

Spider-Man is derivative of Arkham. The inspiration is certainly there, but also customized in such a great way to Spider-Man's abilities. Like you say, not a bad thing. Arkham is pretty much the template that all super-hero games should follow, imo. Originality is great when it works, but there is something to be said for striving to faithfully execute the tried and true. Insomniac took the Arkham formula the applied it in Spider-Man to perfection. And looking back at all the subpar Spider-Man games over the years, I'm thankful.

I'm glad I'm not sensitive to it then because it would suck not being able to enjoy the things I love

Finished the Spider-Man remaster first, now I’m burnt out. Working through demons souls before I go back to mm.
Yeah the game can have that an effect. I was struggling to get the platinum in the base game after finishing the main story, because I was bored with the mechanics already. Ended up never picking up the expansions.

Don't pass gaas, it is your Destiny!
Prob best thing I played on ps5 but really felt like a rehash of then ps4 game with some tweaks. Would like to see miles playable in a true sequel but hope they adjust the powers some so he just isn’t spider man+. Dont know much about the character but having all of Spider-Man’s moves plus a bunch more won’t be interesting if you have to pick from both of them in a proper sequel.

How’s this game on ps4, loved them original on ps4 but is MM gimped in anyway to make ps5 version look better? May pic it up later

Not sure about gimped but it has some loading screens that the PS5 version doesn't have.

Personally I finished it in native 4K + RT, the Performance RT came after I've beaten the game which is arguably the best mode although there are some minor sacrifices.

Does anyone know if they added the tweaked the camera motion/angles into the remastered 2018 game?

I know some of the difference will be them just creating the MM content later when they have better systems/artistry but I wonder if it adds to the old games swinging at least in the same way MM improved on 2018.

The sacrifices are so minor I can’t even tell you what they are other than what insomniac tells me in their description of the mode. Performance RT is the way to go.

I just finished it this week, enjoyed it a lot. Same with Sackboy - I do wish we get a LittleBigPlanet game this generation.

Massive fan of LittleBigPlanet. Sackboy is the natural phase of LBP, they should add level creation in 3D and 2.5D and include 1+2+3 creations to it as well.

Dreams is just too complicated, I can't do shit there but done so much stuff on LBP1+2+3!

Me too. Underrated
Sackboy is so good, man. It looks gorgeous and has great music. Levels are super creative. Such a shame people don’t talk about it.

I ended up buying it to play it with my godson and now his father and myself can’t get enough of the game. That level with Bowie’s Let’s Dance is an event.

Best platformer I've played so far. Only lacks level creation and community like LBP. The game never got a discount it shows that it's selling good, actually.

Pretty awesome.

And the dualsense features were pretty good too. Especially for a cross gen. I haven’t played since the update. Did you notice whether or not the new dualsense firmware made the game play any different? I had my settings turned up for this game.

Only thing I noticed recently with Sackboy is that there are way more sounds coming from the controller than before. Or maybe it’s just me. What was the controller firmware about?

I don’t think anything first party got a price drop yet. At least not here in US. The ubi PS5 games have and DMCVSE.

They changed the haptics on PS4 games played on PS5 but it was a stealth upgrade so I figured maybe it also changed a PS5 game or two is they’re cross gen.

I'm getting through a few games like ghost of tsutshima, control, metro exodus and soon the new ratchet and clank. I also have assassins creed origins but I don't know if I'll bother with that. But when I get through the list above miles morales ultimate edition will be next. Hopefully it gets its first discount by then! It's been over 6 months. Hopefully in a summer sale.

Agreed. Once you get all of Miles' powers he is ridiculously OP. Doesn't matter which suit powers you choose and you dont need to use gadgets at all. With Peter, the suit powers you pick make a difference in how you play and he really has to rely on his gadgets if you want to beat bad guys in a reasonable amount of time.

That being said, using Miles venom powers is really fun, it just feels a little odd that he's much more powerful than Peter. I also thought it was a nice touch that when Miles lands on the ground from a high distance up, sometimes he faceplants. That and the fact that he can't jump as high, travel as fast or cover as much ground as Peter during traversal shows he's not as physically strong as Peter.

Are you saying you liked the stealth sections with MJ and Miles from the first game? I didn’t.
Yes I did and I didn't find them boring by any means, the rest of the open world content is with very, very few exceptions.

Fair enough - personally I did not find the MJ stealth sections engaging or difficult. The lack of awareness of the enemies were immersion breaking to me.

As for the rest of the content, I liked the combat and traversal mechanics. I preferred the activities that encouraged me to exercise those.

Also a little LTTP… finished it now! Really good, the story was way better than expected. Really looking forward to Spiderman 2 now.

The ending doesn’t hint towards the villains from the PS5 showcase though, but someone entirely different…

And, also have to mention; Insomniac are wizards. So many games in such a short timespan, and they all are top quality. Crazy to think how they are only just starting as a 1st party studio.

Loved the game. Only complaint was the shallow side missions. The just didn’t meet the quality of the main campaign at all. But still overall a great game. Definitely looking forward to the next one.

Just got the game on sale, played the prologue section, and damn so far it's really good. RT + 60fps looks better than most games that stress my 6700XT.
