Even though this developer is certainly established (Sly Cooper and Infamous) it's still rare to factor a historical samurai game into today's mainstream casual gaming world of pubg, and warzone.

I'm not sure what's not to like about this game.

Killing enemies gives you abilities to perfect those kills and sucker punch had a lot of room and that's important in open world games (ability trees, techniques etc.) Ghost of Tsushima has significant sword upgrades and stances that allow you to destroy enemies in a variety of ways.

You got a ex-samurai (Jin Sakai) who they build the story through who's fighting a Mongolian invasion led by Khotun Khan but if you told me this game had no story I'd still play it, the combat, enemy AI and Jin's skills are just worth it and despite having a really good story about 1274 Japan the backbone of this game are those skills, combat and enemy AI.

Unless they enhance this game the only way to play it is via PS4 (physical and digital) and PS5's PS Store (digital), it doesn't matter how you play, experiencing Ghost of Tsushima is a mission accomplished with all it's flashes of greatness, passionate story this game really can be a franchise for Sucker Punch and SONY.

Ghost of Tsushima is legit historic originality and I think it will be apart of this generation's and last's golden years. Today we see mostly smart phone, battle royale and even linear games but Ghost reminds me of big, keep your eyes on it open world games and I'm looking forward to the next release

I give it a 10/10.

English dub or Japanese? I was thinking Japanese with English subtitles, but I just got done playing Atelier Ryza 2, which was Japanese with English subtitles. But so far it seems weird in English. I just started. I've heard nothing but good things.

Stick to Japanese. English VA is quite flaccid IMO.

The game is a love letter and it shows. So well done and honorable. The passion to the inspired source material and to the cinematic arts of the past, it's just really appreciated. That's just the base game too. I guess this is why people want more games based in Japan or China, such great things to work with.

Dropped it at the beginning of act 2, tried to revisit yesterday so pressed "continue" and I got put in an escort/stealth mission and I can't even remember the controls so I'm not having the greatest time loool, I'll dedicate more time to it tomorrow.

One thing that I struggle with is I really don't feel anything for the characters so it's hard for me to get involved with the story, I just find them pretty uninteresting.

I have to agree but I think it’s because I started it after finishing Days Gone. I was totally invested in those characters and finished all storylines. I basically could keep playing Days Gone forever.
GOT characters are just kind of flat.

I know it’s feudal Japan and not a biker community in the US of A but it’s just underwhelming. The combat is fire though so that keeps me going.

Japanese with English subtitles is definitely better. So far I am enjoying the game. Had to drop it down to easy. I really suck at these types of games. I always panic during combat and seem to hit the wrong button. I can never seem to remember what items or moves I have when combat begins. I tend to default to a few moves. I hate switching combat styles, especially mid-combat. I am just so much better at shooters, but I don't want to miss out on these games. So I am glad they offered up an easy mode.

I bought it on sale and threw a couple of hours into it recently. The visuals are great, the story is great, the Japaneseness is off the charts, but-

It's just not grabbing me. I don't know if open world fatigue is finally starting to set in, but I feel like I've already played this game with many different coats of paint.

I really want to like it, but I just don't feel like I have another one of these in me right now.

OP forgot to mention the totally free Legends update. Man, it is awesome. I finally got high enough to do a raid, completed first chapter last night. I really hope they add some more raid chapters at some point.

Like most other Suckerpunch games, I found it all style over substance. Tired of all these empty feeling open world games.

This was one of the most pleasant surprises of lastgen. I finished it last week on PS5 and was completely floored. I had no previous interest in the setting and the game didn’t look very fun, but damn, it quickly became one of my top 5 Sony exclusives on the PS4. The sense of exploration is unmatched. I found Horizon Zero Dawn lacking in that sense.

Everytime you just start traveling in any direction you come across something that feels hand crafted (especially the shrines). The fightning mechanics is really nice, I love the heavy rewarding of perfect parrying. The story was way better than I expected and OMG the soundtrack.

I’ve listened to The Way of the Ghost several mornings in order to wake up, just craving that epic feel when it hits its crescendo

Struggled with Japanese and English subs, so went with English with English subs. Also Japanese dialogue has no lip-syncing which is a major flaw.

This game is my 2nd best game of all times after GOW 2018. Lethal difficulty came late, although on hard it's pretty decent or punishing in some duels. Would've loved to play it on Lethal Difficulty.

Yeah it's more enemy difficulty than AI. But those strawhat fucks are really challenging, and even more the duels.
Agree to disagree, the game is pretty easy when jin get some powerup\equips, you have too much fucking stuff between super moves that need zero skill to activate, bombs, bows etc.

Ironically the last duel against the khan is the easiest in the game because jin is basically a god, what an anticlimactic finale this game has...(althought the real finale with the uncle is better)

Sekiro this is not.

The ia is mediocre during fights and straight up utter shit during stealth.

Incredibly fun game. I wish they would have put more effort into the stealth elements, but that's more to do with me wanting another Tenchu game than anything. Art direction and music were very well done and the tech running it worked very well considering what was on screen. My only gripe was the 30fps lock and would have preferred the option of 60fps at a reduced resolution. Some of those parry windows could be very tight and it became super annoying to miss a parry because of the 30fps lock.

Overall though, I thought it was awesome, really scratched a Samurai itch and it was kinda of relaxing as I played it right after the birth of my daughter and would just sleep on the couch next to her bassinet and play the game between feedings. I look forward to replaying it one day on either PC(PLEASE SONY!) or PS5 in the far future when they finally start having games worth owning a system for.

It's a problem in most open world RPG-lite games in general. You just have to impose self-limits to keep the challenge up. Which is what I've done with both Ghost of Tsushima and Breath of the Wild. They both are way too easy by the end if you put any effort to upgrading skills/weapons. Which I guess is kind of the point, but it's always gonna be an issue pretty much forever really. There's not really any real good solution other than to introduce brand-new enemy types/move sets the longer you play the game, which at the scale and cost that these type of games require, just doesn't seem to feasible at the moment.

I would've gone Japanese dub if not for the lip syncing. Was pretty disappointed, tbh.

Yeah AI isn't great at all, also upgrades are somehow OP, especially the throwing shurikens that usually 1 hit kill. And the final boss was as well easy. I had much more trouble with some mythical duels than fighting the khan. There is room for improvement indeed.

You become a god before you reach mid game in tsushima, same for botw, and it is a shitty flaw to have.

It's a balance problem and some games manage this problem better than others, tsushima imo was particularly shitty on this aspect because if you do some quest\pick some equips early you can fuck the rest of the game easily.

1.Ignore the stealth
2. put the game on max difficulty where a single hit can kill you
3. 10/10
I will argue that hard is more difficult than lethal because on lethal enemies die too fucking easily...

They introducted lethal when i was like 5-6 hours from finishing the game and when i switched from hard to lethal it was noticeably easier overall.

So it's more "realistic" difficulty that normal scaling.

Much more realistic like you said. Enemies die in 1 hit but so do you. Much more intense

Kunai, bombs, bow, supermoves, some armours that give you stupidly op bonunes, the venom darts...it is all fucking op.

I like the fact that exploring actually makes you stronger and you have a clear sense of progression unlike botw, but they need to balance the game much better in the sequel.

Yeah shurikens should be nerfed like the can't penetrate some metal armor or helmets. Hope they manage to improve that in the next sequel.

Yeah but you still die very easily on hard (in term of damage you take) so having enemies that die more easily on lethal is kinda of an advantage.

Also you have some armours where you get cure for hit or when the enemy hits you so again, having enemies dying more easily is more of an advantage because you still don't really die with a single hit...

I don't know dude, i clearly remember of having an easier life on lethal than hard when i completed the game...

I have gotten better at combat and was able to switch back to normal. However, the game is starting to get too repetitive. Got past a certain point and towns I had cleared were taken over again needing to be recleared. Not really my idea of fun.

I really, really enjoyed this one too. Feels like reviewers went especially harsh on this because it was cool to hate on open world games at the time.

The world and everything about it is absolutely beautiful. That was enough to get me to play for ~15 hours or so. Unfortunately the gameplay loop is just a slightly better version of what Ubisoft has done.

Enjoyed every moment spent with this game. Platted it last month, and waiting on finding a PS5 unicorn for the NG+ playthrough for that silky smooth 60FPS. Messed around with it at a buddy's on his PS5 and the foliage/particle effects really shine at 60.

Beat it today.

This is the PS4 exclusive I enjoyed the most.

The art, the characters, the writing, the combat... everything is really good.

The only thing, is that I missed the hell out of an overworld music like in RPGs. It could have enhanced the experience a lot more, but well, cannot have everything : D

It's an incredible game. I did a full graphics analysis on it and I saw some really excellent rendering tricks in the game. My #1 PS game at the moment.
