Demon Souls remake bombed hard

Makes sense if sales werent great.

The Demons Souls/Dark Souls/Bloodborne games arent giant sellers to begin with. Bloodborne on PS4 sold what? 3 million copies? And that's after years of bargain binning when the console base grew.

PS5 sales are what? 6 million? Selling 1 million copies at this point would require 16% of PS5 gamers buying it. Unless Sony thinks the hardcore crowd of early adopters are the same hardcore gamers that love Souls games and with only a few new PS5 exclusives it will automatically increase sales, getting 1 out of every 6 gamers to buy DS sounds tough.

Not even COD or FIFA gets bought by 16% of a user base.

i have been taking a lot of shit here for saying that it bombed because the online was so dead.

i beat the game almost 15 times and it was harder to find coop sessions in the game than in any other game ive played. and ive played them all.

at first i shrugged it off since there were so few ps5s sold during the early days but i played through december and it was pretty much impossible to get summoned. it was extremely frustrating.

well, they just threw away an IP they spent 7 years developing because it "only" sold 5 million copies and received mediocre reviews. they also the same well oiled studio do support work after shipping a game instead of immediately starting them on their next game. Bend has most likely wasted the last two years just coming up with new pitches and doing support work for ND. their next game is probably 5 years away.

Well oil team = Guerrilla (for example). Sony Bend had a lot of issues making not just Days Gone but even coming out with a new AAA for a long time. Did you saw the Jaffe stream? Sony Bend change a lot internally, they not only grew but the way they were organized also changed, after days gone lunched were a lot of blame thrown everywhere. So... Bend was not in the best state after they lunched, the creative force of Days Gone had left the studio. It seems like Bend had not a strong direction after the departures anyway. In other words: Days Gone despite being a AAA game was not GOTY caliber. So the decision of making or not a sequel is not that relevant because right now they would basically would start from zero (from a creative point of view).

i think this e3 will clear up a lot. i dont see kojima missing another e3 after missing it last year. he typically just shows up with cutscenes. if all these insane rumors are true then MS is going to have a killer E3 while Sony shows up with a bunch of cross gen games. It's going to be a bloodbath like E3 2013 was for MS and E3 2006 was for Sony.

I sure hope it doesnt, but after allowing MLB to go on gamepass, I dont have much faith in the current leadership.

The first 2 years tend too usually suck at beginning of any generation.

I feel that PS4 launch line up was far better than PS5. Killzone Shadowfall and Resogun were solid games. Most people will laugh at me but I kind of enjoyed Knack for what it was as far as a basic launch platformer.

Meanwhile, Demon's Soul was/is a fantastic launch game but the variety of titles at PS5 lunch was kind of a bummer to me. Miles Morales was available on previous platform so I dont really count it. LittleBigPlanet Adventure I haven't played and had no interest.

Astro tech demo was free and absolutely blew me away. Bugsnax.... well lol.

Returnal, Ratchet and Clank for the first year is not bad. Godfall wasn't that good I heard but I never played and its coming to Xbox, I believe exclusivity ends in May. Deathloop and Kena got delayed and I really wanted to play those games. If it wasn't for Covid I think console launches would have been far far better.

To be quite frank I think the new consoles should of just launched this holiday instead of the last covid or not.

I think 2022 is where both platform holders will start to really pick up traction and 2023 is where we will start seeing those big massive 1st party heavy hitters such as Fable and something from Naughty Dog. Either way exciting times ahead for me personally I just don't want either of them to go in the wrong direction and blow it.

No one has said that. At all. Sony would contract Bluepoint and other partner studios for each project and those contracts would always have an end date. Unless folks are ignorant enough to think contracts are left open forever even after the project ends and the game ships.

If all this is true then it's just plain sad. Bloodborne is what really kicked off the PS4 era. Nothing released prior to that game is even worth mentioning. They won't even do a 60 fps patch or a remaster. Shame. Also not acquiring Bluepoint who consistently put out quality games along with the only game worth getting at launch on the PS5. Sony is mad. Lately all we've been hearing is how Sony is just doing stupid things. Seems like 2021 is gonna leading to another dumpster fire.

Bluepoint needs to be acquired and given the resources to grow and make more awesome games. Let MS take them and make some great games then.

It's still just a prettified old game. Patched Gears 5 with Hivebusters is absolutely on par with it, but wouldn't call it next gen game either.

If the rumours are true, and Sony stepped back from Bluepoint after Demon's Souls, that's a big mistake. Bluepoint have done some of the best visual design work I've seen in a long time, and they're clearly very talented at what they do. Their work on Shadow of the Colossus was basically perfect - and that's coming from someone who holds the original PS2 version close to my heart. If I hear Bluepoint are working on a game, I know it'll be handled with the deepest care and respect. Their work on Demon's Souls is just as impressive; it's a remake of a niche, hardcore game though - anyone expecting massive numbers went in with bad expectations. It'll sell well over the generation, but it's not posting Uncharted numbers upfront. If that's actually the reason for Sony pulling back, maybe Sony really are shifting focus to only the big blockbuster franchises.
