Doubtful. I dont think Death Stranding met expectations. Games that sold well get bragged about and hard sales numbers are given. Complete transparency. Kojima will play it safe with this next game. Sony got his art house project. Even Konami knew better than letting him make some shit like that.

If we assume this rumor is true - I highly doubt Kojimas just gonna return to making normal games from what I’ve seen of his work. If he did move to a game for Xbox I’m sure it’ll be really weird still

If a profitable game (that sold at least over 3 million) that had a good critical reception (82 Metacritic) from one of - if not the - most popular Japanese director today cannot get greenlit by Sony - bearing in mind how badly they need Japanese support - then PlayStation is fucked. Royally fucked.
Think about a game that you just enjoyed that did not meet those metrics that is now being shelved with no sequel or said developer is now forced to find a new publisher.
I'm not saying this is what has happened because I don't know for sure but if it is the case I can tell you pretty much every game I enjoyed on PS4 - less than half of those franchises are dead now or on another system if that's the case.

Not sure I agree with that. Do we have hard sales numbers for anything at all these days? we don't have transparency. We don't have hard sales figures for any MS games all gen you think this game will be different or all previous games didn't meet expectations?
Regarding Death Stranding :
Not sure if Koji was talking bullshit but he said he turned a profit and with it secured funding for the next project.
Let's see what he makes if this rumour is even at all true. Might be what Project Mara ended up as in the end.

I'm definitely not the biggest Kojima fan and I do believe that he's overrated but there's no denying how much he could help Xbox in Japan and just to get him when vast majority would believe that he would never not work with Sony is a massive blunder by Sony in my opinion.

The way OSJs(OBSESSIVE SONY JINGOS) think a mega corporation is run is naive and almost innocent and fully childlike.
Sales wise, Death Stranding probably disappointed, today’s view of any business is that if doesn’t outsell the last thing it’s a waste of time, this is hugely detrimental and narrow minded in something like gaming or any other art form. Jim himself might have said “no“ to Kojima but the decision wasn’t all his at the end of the day. He is beholden to the board and they’ve already cemented their plan. The “fallout” of this and other “issues” people here have with him aren’t real issues, turning down a game developer that didn’t deliver on the last product is pretty solid.
Sorry guys SENPAI Jimmy doesn‘t care, because HE DOESN‘T NEED TO. A vocal minority will not steer the company especially one so extreme. When Sony has the biggest sales numbers doing almost nothing, it only solidifies that the path they’re on is correct. The only people to blame for all of this is ironically yourselves, the OSJs that made Sony number 1 and are keeping it there, the only way to change these things are to stop buying Sony so that they understand people don’t like this path, even then, It won’t matter. Please do continue to amuse us though.
Nobody in first ever really innovates, they don’t need to. They’re already winning as is, it doesn’t make good business sense to bother to expend energy when you don’t need to. When people are behind they need to bend over backwards to make the company work. I’m sure there’s some kind of old proverb about someone choosing the leader of a 2nd place team that tries rather than a 1st place always winner.

I see your frustration and get that you’re upset about lots of things right now, but do you remember the quiet pre-PS5-launch period?
I would say that it was exactly the same.
Sony fans were angry that Sony did nothing while MS kinda controlled the nextgen talk and had DF to help getting the word out on BC and the internals etc.
Then BAM!
Almost instantly they completely shifted everything so people more or less forgot that Xbox existed for awhile.
I think this is what happens now too. They’re probably quiet because they’re ramping up for an amazing summer show and soon you’ll be raving about how awesome Sony is and you’ll forget all about this Jim Ryan mocking.
Personally I just jumped into VR so I’m super excited to hear what they’re doing with PSVR2. I hope they start talking in detail about that soon, showing games and sharing some info if they have the AAA teams onboard this time, for me that could be the turning point where I start being more excited about Playstation.

Finally someone who doesn‘t overreact when the lord Kojimasan wants to make a game. For all I‘ve seen from this guy so far, I can imagine Kojima has some pretty fucked up ideas that would never ever work as a game and his last walking simulator wasn‘t worth the hype at all. He was Metal Gear and since Konami broke his heart he never recovered. Imho, he‘d be better off making movies than games.

This was obviously a deal to publish and fund the project, if the rumours are true and Xbox are in discussions then I'd imagine it would be exclusive if the deal is made. With Sony passing it up though I'm not sure what to expect, I wasn't blown away by DS but who knows.

Don’t be so negative. A subscription service isn’t the end of the world, it’s really just cheaper games. If they would do it like MS you’d see third party games come and go, which can be annoying but when they go they’re usually cheaper if you need to buy them so you’re still saving money. And the 1st party games would be there until they close the service.

actually I wonder what would happen to their usage of the Decima engine. I'd imagine that they'd have to rebuild again on another engine. They were likely getting direct studio support from Guerilla so that would likely be cut off.

DS is a great game. Divisive yes, but it made a good portion happy after playing it.
Well as long as Kojima next game cut down on the overly busy menus and mission briefs. Im ready on Gamepass. Did the 3 years hack last year, as a leap of faith, seems to pay off crazy well even for a PC user like moi!
