ppl are dumb af. so we just pretending like sony not getting paid off this mlb contract deal? only one company is trying to give the game away for free as a desperate attempt to get ppl to buy into there glorified rental service. who exactly is the cuck again?
Sony got paid in the form of still being allowed to develop the game and publish it on their platform. And maybe a royalties discount. That's it. Sony isn't getting paid any direct money.

I thought this was obvious. I don't know why people were directing their anger at Jim Ryan.

Still not a good look for Sony even with those circumstances though, when it's $70 on one console and no additional cost with gamepass.

If I was Sony I would be unsure if to bother keeping the license /developing the game. It may not be as bad as people are making it out to be....but it is a PR nightmare.
Because people are stupid.

You could have a random beat cop perform a drunk stop and people would blame Jim Ryan for it.

You think they'd go through the expense of making a game for Xbox One consoles and Xbox Series consoles just to be able to make a game to sell on PlayStation? Sorry that's not how it works, they are being compensated, even if it were a "royalties discount" that would be compensation but that's not likely to be all they are getting. Regardless MS is paying for a game that's not going to bring them many subs because they don't have anything of their own to release and haven't since Gears 5 launched in 2019, they need new releases on their service and have nothing from first party to offer until at least the fall.

EA isn't getting paid to develop FIFA from the FIFA.

With those valuable licences, the license holder can offset every risk and just take the benefits of royalties. That's why they do it. Otherwise they wouldn't.
Sony was not getting paid money to make MLB on PS4. So they're not getting paid to make the game multiplatform now.
It's just a new requirement for the agreement.

The best they (the developer) could've got is some milestone payments if they reach sales goals. So indirectly profiting from Xbox salea.

Anything else would be highly unusual.

MLB just shot themselves in the foot.
I don't know how much the rest of you know about baseball culture (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in football where you can become successful by being an asshole. If you screw someone over in MLB, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.
What this means is the baseball fans, after hearing about this, are not going to want to purchase the game for either system, nor will they purchase any MLB games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but MLB has alienated an entire market with this move.
MLB, publicly apologize and cancel the game for gamepass or you can kiss your business goodbye.

You do realize games cost money to make right?
Because they want to recover the costs first?

And perhaps, the knights will realize that Sony doesn't give a shit and is profiting from these deals, otherwise, why they would continue, there's no way they would have signed this renewal without being aware of that clause of giving away a incentive to Xbox owners.

Wait, what? What company on this planet has the balls that would base their contingencies on a competitors platform whom isn't Bill Gates?!?

But yeah guy above is right 100%.

Had a feeling it was a stab.

Does this mean they won't be making the next game? They at least have the choice in that right?

Which would heavily backfire, since then the license would fall into either EA or Microsoft's hands, and don't think for a second that if it falls into Microsoft hands, they will keep exactly the same deal: day-1 on Gamepass for "free", US$70 for the game on PS5.

It was a PR lose-lose scenario for Sony from the very beginning. XD
Hahaha. Microsoft had the better part of 15 years to make an MLB game when there was no exclusivity except to first party. You should be asking why they weren’t able to actually do it.

Amen brother. Baseball culture sounds a lot like a Japanese culture though. Who knew?

Dude was mocking this post:

It's not like it is in America where you can become successful by being an asshole. Because out of all the sports games currently in the market, baseball is the one that offers the least return on investment. I think even the PGA Tour games sell better. Sony created a nice niche market for the MLB and they deserve credit for that, but I guess now they can no longer use it as a reason to purchase a PlayStation console for.

im not trying to put words into your mouth so im going to ask you, are u saying you think they just developed the game for xbox for free? and as payment they get to keep the license to mlb and royalties? lol. i can assure you they got alot of money up front, time + resources = pay me aint not spinning around that.

Again only 1 company is cucking, if you have confidence in your product you dont give it away for virtually nothing unless youre running a promotion or trying to build awareness to put your self on the map relative to your competitor.

Wait you telling me Sony didnt want the game to be free on the competing console. Who would have thunk that..

Yeah, when people say MS "weren't able to do it" it implies that they tried and failed. LOL

No attempts made that I can remember. They did try the NFL didn't they? NFL Fever if I'm remembering correctly.

So you think MLB brokered a deal with Microsoft behind Sony's back and then said, "Hey, we're launching the game on Xbox now, here, take some of the money we just contracted, even though you had nothing to do with the agreement".

Or maybe they didn’t have a studio capable? It’s not like they were churning out first party game after first party game. I mean, they had 15 years...
