PlayStation Says It Was a MLB's Decision to Put MLB The Show 21 on Xbox GamePass at Launch

Baseball's attendance peaked in 2007 and last years World Series was the lowest rated one ever, but this is the game that will win the war baby.
We where in Pandemic last year, no? How do you want people to attending? The League itself had a lot of game cancelled and just the major ones happened without public.

Not surprised in the slightest considering MLB ultimately has the say in this situation and Game Pass has been getting a lot of attention. Not to mention Microsoft has been talking it up quite a bit.

So why Sony refuses to put it on PS Now?
Because I don't think that was ever Sony's plan with PS Now. As far as I know they never intended PS Now to have new titles on launch, or PS+. Aside from maybe some internal/first party titles like Destruction Allstars.

And plenty of Xbox fans that said it was Jim's fault. I've seen what happened in that thread.
Well any that did were probably just taking the piss and winding up the people having meltdowns. We already had this months ago when it was announced it was coming to Xbox, You only have to look at how the Xbox version is published by the MLB to see that. And it will of been the MLB who negotiated with it being on Gamepass, Sony would of had nothing to do with that.
Also blaming Jim is actually the better option from a Sony standpoint, over Sony being forced to release a long standing exclusoive not only on Xbox, but also on Gamepass. I mean why the hell would Sony agree to that if they had a choice?.

I knew it. Just like I said. Sony likely had no say in this deal from the very start, and it's a purely MLB and Microsoft arrangement. No way in hell Sony would agree to this game in Game Pass day one while their customers on PS5 pay $70. Can't wait to give this game a shot. Honestly, I was more into baseball games back in the Nintendo/genesis/snes/playstation 1 days. I use to enjoy them quite a bit, but then I kinda just stopped playing them.

This looks like a perfect time to return.

Honestly, I don't think Sony can put it in PS Now unless they also cut a deal with MLB, as shocking as that might seem even though they own the studio. They have a profit sharing agreement certainly with MLB for this license, and PS Now clearly isn't part of that. That's my take. Could be wrong, but I don't think Sony can drop this game onto PS Now without cutting a deal with MLB.

Included with gamepass and $70 on playstation lol, what are sony thinking lol, should have told mlb to do one, another dumb move by jim ryan,
Who knows, it could be contract obligations, a good cut etc.

Personally, I think Sony should ditch MLB and free San Diego studios to make a game that can bring much more value to PS than a multiplatform offered 'free' to the main competitor's userbase.

I’m a Sony fans and posted the exactly what the OP confirms.
It was inclusive obvious to me.

But there are a thread here with a lot of non-fans saying the opposite... so who knows?
Most sane Playstation and Xbox fans said the same in that thread, including me. Its basic logic. Why would Sony not only agree to make the game for Xbox, but also agree to it being on Gamepass, when Playstation gamers are having to pay $70, if they werent being forced to do it?. I mean i'm sure Sony have loved the bad PR and meltdowns since this news broke.

They’re morons then. It would make zero sense for Sony to do that for Xbox.

Yeap... they choose what they want.

The only choice Sony has is to stop to developer the game.
Which would heavily backfire, since then the license would fall into either EA or Microsoft's hands, and don't think for a second that if it falls into Microsoft hands, they will keep exactly the same deal: day-1 on Gamepass for "free", US$70 for the game on PS5.

It was a PR lose-lose scenario for Sony from the very beginning. XD

Well... Sony can aways give back the license and let MLB do the game. Put the studio to do deals direct with the teams, doing the license and anything that they can do to make a game with other name. Or put them to do something else.

MLB can say whatever they want, they own the IP. To me the problem is when Sony accept it.

I'm not going to crucify Sony for this in a million years, but come on people please get real. Sony was asked to start selling the game on Xbox when negotiations started, and they accepted MLB's offer to do that. They can blame whoever they want now, but Sony chose to maximize revenue over appeasing their fans who care about exclusivity. Are we really pretending that SONY did not understand a publisher's rights verses a developer's rights? Seriously people? We really playing that game?

Also, since when does cuck porn involve the cuck getting paid millions and millions of dollars to let others take a turn? At least make fun of them with logical jabs, such as Sony execs wearing pimp clothes.

Pretty obvious?
Do people hate Jim Ryan so much they thought he personally decided to release the game on Gamepass while charging people on playstation $70?

Man when the console wars are about a baseball videogame? LOL

I think we've had more threads about MLB in the past couple of weeks than the last 10 years combined lol.

With an average of 1 million sales a year, i just hope all this doesnt put Sony off making the game anymore. Seen plenty of people on here, and elswehere, say they love the game, and in a none fanboy way. I wouldnt want them to miss out on the game due to Sony thinking its not worth making the game anymore, from a financial and PR persepctive.

I don't think they're getting money for the xbox version, yeah the developers are getting paid for the port but the game is published by mlb.

I'd be shocked if a Sony studio didn't get themselves a publishing deal with profit sharing. They aren't exactly indie level.

With that said MS probably wouldn't even have any knowledge of Sony's agreement with MLB. They would negotiate with MLB and that is that. It is up to MLB to fulfill their arrangements with Sony, which I'm sure they are doing. If the agreement was that Sony gets a cut of any dollars earned, then Sony gets a cut. If MLB paid for the port upfront and all the rights to it, than Sony doesn't get anything (would be hard to believe, but maybe MLB knew they had the MS money in the bag). But, even in that second scenario, than Sony got what they considered an agreeable amount to start with.

I mean... just let the MLB choose whatever developer they want.

Put the Sony team to make something else.

The question is what would they be suited for? Sony has done a fantastic job with the MLB license, but that is a specific type of game.

IMO it was always a one side decision like it was a one side decision to bring the game to Xbox.
MLB forced the hand... or you do the port or you won't have the licence anymore.
After that MLB themselves discussed the deal with Microsoft.

MLB has the rights over the name... they do what they want.

BTW It won't be surprise to me if MLB already had the deal with MS before go talk with Sony that the game should be Multiplatform now.
It will of been within contracts that if they wanted to bring it to other platforms nothing Sony could do, Sony signed the deal and had it well for a good few years

Honestly I think PS+ is probably better. Just because they have more users there. PSNow can be used once the game gets old.
They getting no money for it on ps+ where with PSnow. They getting money for it through the subs. Makes no sense at this point to put it on ps+

Yeah. PSNow would barely move the needle at all, yet net them some good PR. I assume anyone getting a sports game will have a PS+ subscription, so putting it on there is basically forfeiting all sales.

Yeah exactly that, with all the sales thread on how Sony games sell well why would Sony give it away for free. Just a few fans bitter that it’s hitting game pass. Sony shouldn’t change their plans for this

Lol that’s actually pretty funny. If you got a series S or X and gamepass I would say it doesn’t hurt to try it. Still sounds like Sony just got played.
