📰 Story

The tale begins in a realm governed by machines. Within this multi-dimensional universe, the balance of “Chaos and Order” becomes a key factor in the struggle for these realms and the machinations of the gods who wish to control them. Players will assume the role of protagonist, Leo, who awakens from a massive explosion only to find himself lost in a strange land with only one memory left to him. As players set out on a journey to reclaim Leo’s memories, they will unravel the mysteries of the bizarre mechanical infection slowly engulfing all that is known to mankind. The captivating story is written by Sakaguchi and is complimented by a sweeping soundtrack by celebrated Final Fantasy composer, Nobuo Uematsu.

🎮 New Battle Mechanics

Tapping into his experience from the Final Fantasy franchise, Sakaguchi brings to Fantasian several quality of life improvements to the classic JRPG genre, such as the “Dimengeon Battle” mechanic, which allows players to send previously encountered enemies into a separate dimensional dungeon to streamline combat and maximize uninterrupted exploration of the beautiful locations.

🏪 Hand-Crafted Environments

Each of the 150+ dioramas has been crafted by the masters of the Japanese “Tokusatsu” or special effects industry. Creating Fantasian’s real-life miniature sets are veterans who have worked on projects like the Godzilla films, Attack on Titan, and Ultraman. Fantasian serves as a vehicle to bring these amazing works of art into the digital space via Apple Arcade.

🎻Soundtrack

Celebrated composer Nobuo Uematsu, known for his work on the Final Fantasy series and games such as Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon, created a soundtrack to compliment the memorable and magical world of Fantasian from catchy battle tunes to heart-pumping dungeon pieces, and moving character themes.

🔖 Novel Storytelling

To tell an epic story, a ‘novel’ approach was used in the form of a “Memory” system where players encounter and collect various memories, journal entries, and notes presented as miniature in-game novels to flesh out the story, realms, and characters of Fantasian. These bite-sized novels have unique artwork, music, and sound effects to offer players a truly immersive experience.

Just started playing and about an hour in; the story structure of the beginning dungeon is giving me FFVII intro feels while the content of the narrative is def FFVI.
Most importantly, I cannot describe how refreshing it is to not see ads pop up to purchase more “jewels” or “diamonds” to continue progression! I forgot what it was like to play a “fully realized, non-gotcha” type mobile game!

(To be fair though, this doesn’t feel like a mobile game, it feels like a classic console RPG)

That’s the best about Apple Arcade. No freemium crapola, games are designed without micro transactions.

I would love to play this game, but sadly I refuse to play mobile games. Maybe someday it can come to consoles proper. Looks absolutely gorgeous and listening to Uematsu's latest work is breathtaking.

Ehh? Seems like a weird virtue to uphold when you obviously would be interested... is there a salient reason? Just grab a dual sense and sync it and airplay it to your TV. What it’s running on becomes invisible and it’s just you, the controller and the game.

That game's title is so Japanese.

I haven't played any Sakaguchi/Uematsu game that isn't Final Fantasy.
I wish Lost Odyssey would somehow make it's way to PS5.

How well does it run on Apple TV? I’m thinking of playing it now or wait until I change my Mac.
Tested half an hour on a 4K and it’s fine. You must use a gamepad. Some slowdowns on camera transitions within the same area and very low res textures on a big screen (the game is ~4GB). On a 12 pro max it is smoother and of course looks more defined thanks to the smaller screen.

Don't buy an Apple TV. It's overpriced and shitty right now. Rumors of a dongle version coming soon.

Been playing these new games on my MacBook and iPad and I really like Apple Arcade. Seamless cloud saving etc. Hot Shots Golf is really good btw.

Thanks. I think I won’t be able to resist a lot and I’ll need to restart my Apple Arcade subscription.

Yeah there’s a brand new one coming soon

I've play for about 5 hours on macbook pro(2020) and it's very smooth, no problems so far.
Very fun JRPG with challenging battles early in the game if you try to rush through the game too fast.

This is my only complaint so far. The BG pics probably look great on mobile, but on my MacBook they're too blurry.

Played a few hours and this is so much better than I expected, feels like old school Final Fantasy. Some blurry backdrops is my only complaint. If this is Sakaguchi’s final game then he goes out with a bang! Love it! 🤩

It wouldn't be a bad thing to have some sort of "smart-delivery" that allows you to download a version with higher definition textures depending on the hardware and the disk space. Or simply an optional texture/background pack.
Not complaining about the overall quality of the game.

It’s made with handcrafted dioramas, while I have no idea how they’ve made it in detail I don’t think it’s all that easy to make it sharper, I’m thinking they might have to rebuild it with new sharper photos.

But most of the time I think it’s fine, has a unique look, looks real nice imo. Just looks like you have dirty glasses sometimes 🥸😋

Blurry backgrounds is an odd thing. You'd think a camera nut like Sakaguchi would make sure to get those spectacular backgrounds shot in the highest resolution possible.

Hopefully there is a version coming to other platforms woth higher resolution.

How do you pronounce the title btw?
Is it a mash of ”fantasy” and ”asian”?
Fant-asian?
Fantasy-an?

It’s on iPhone, iPad, iMac, Apple TV. Normally, they keep the exclusivity only for phones, so some games do release later on PC or console. But I have no idea if this is the case for Fantasian.

That's the idea!
And who knows, they might already have them ready for possible future releases on other consoles/new Apple TV..

You don’t have to buy it, you can sign up for a free month of Apple Arcade, play the game, then cancel the sub if you don’t use it for anything else. I just signed up today for Fantasian and Clap Hanz Golf.

Super glad I bought that MacBook recently which came with a 3 month free trial of Apple Arcade. I can use this Arcade shit for the first time ever now lol
