PC gaming has always felt like one disappointment after another.

I considered that, but then I got spooked away from doing so as I saw people mentioning something about taxes. I will admit I looked into mining for all of 5 minutes, so excuse me if that is BS nonsense.

IDK about in US (for example) but in Poland after month of mining I got more than 1/4 of what I payed for 3070 so it's not bad at all.

There's no objective truth to what platform is the "best". However, there will certainly be a platform that is best for you at the current time. I'm enjoying my consoles more at the moment despite having a very recent capable gaming PC that gets rarely used.

It's a platform where the pirates often get a much better experience than the paying customers for the same all digital content. That's kind of shitty if you ask me.

Pc going fucking sucks sometimes. Everything is problematic and pc gaming wiki is essential.
An it costs an arm and leg... But in the end I can play death stranding 4k120, dlss.
I have pcs for well over 20 years and there are always problems and weird new issues. Always. The more money you spend, the less problems there are but still not problem free. For example usb big on x570... Hp g2 working only sometimes due to usb and mixed reality problems, all vr stuff aside from oculus are never plug and play.
Then there are plenty of stores and launchers which sucks. Hackers in online games... My BF5 game with friends is ruined every 2nd match or so.
So much higher possibilities, much higher price, mich higher issues rate.
The only anomaly is that now the prices are way out of whack and I would never recommend pc now.

Lately I kind of feel the same way. Especially with the Xbox BC, which offers another feature so prominent in the good side of PC Pros & Cons.

Right now the benefits of PC are arguably the lowest they’ve been in a long time, and I didn’t think I would ever be so tempted to switch back to console. It might be nice to go back to a simple plug and play situation, I could even reconnect with some old friends if I got a PS5.

I think the amount of effort and 'tinkering' is hugely overblown.
I moved from switch to pc and it's been really easy and I'm hardly an expert with computers. You download the game, you play it. Perhaps visit the options screen to set the graphics settings to ultra. That's it. Works fine.

Going back to that tiny blurry screen sounds like a nightmare.

for me i had a low budget gaming laptop, and i am enjoying all the past games that i couldn't play on my old laptop, and its a blast!!! for me going from an dell n5000 series to an asus gaming ryzen 5 laptop is a big leap xD, my expectation are not that big for that.

Shit optimized games do that OP.
Borderlands 3
exodus.. both feel a bit janky on PC.
Heck cod cold war.. seems to break every damn new update. I went from 120 locked to 90 back to 110.. all based on updates🤣

games like doom 2016 or eternal (fuck that last game). Feel really polished tho!

i ended up playing Loop Hero like 60+ hours.
On my fucking 3080. Most fun i had.

Can't relate at all with OP.

Have a 3080 and it's such a huge jump compared to the consoles. I love it. Also, all the customization via mods and reshade are so worth it.

And raytracing is a great option in games that support it. The consoles won't even come near a 3080 in raytracing.

If that's worth the way higher price - that's an individual decision.

Below is just my personal ranting about gaming PC:

I have few gaming PC in my life time.
The latest one is a 2070s with 3700x which I bought last year, i barely use it except playing survival games like rimworld, minecraft, subnautica, 7 days to die etc....
I owned Control on my gaming PC and PS5. Funny thing is I play control on my PS5 instead of my gaming PC although it can run more than 60fps with full ray tracing and DLSS enabled.

My several gaming PC had hardware failures but it never happens to my gaming console (except eject drive failure on my PS4 but i fixed it).
It always annoying for me to diagnose the errors and identify the reason causing all the issues on my gaming PC, i just fed up of it.

Furthermore, not every game runs stable at all on my gaming PC for some reason.
1) Fallout 4 always crash to desktop when I installed the unofficial patch on it alone, even on my new gaming PC, weird. Unable to find a solution for it as todate.
2) Control crash to desktop during loading randomly (uncommon but its annoying).
3) Alt tab does not work right for some games. So when I'm gaming I am unable do anything else.

And now my current gaming PC has some weird issue whereby the whole PC had serious slowdown randomly, no buzzing sound, no BSOD, video and audio just stutter and I am unable to run any program, including using task manager or even restart my PC.
Test with memtest86 and full SSD scan, no issue found. Still no idea what causing it. Perhaps its a CPU issue? i don't know, i just don't care anymore.

All gaming console does is just play games, which is also the reason why I prefer gaming on a console.
It simplistic, convenience, no hassle and nonsense except 30fps (which i'm fine with it)
I have my gaming PC on the left and my PS5 on the right, with two monitors I basically can do everything anyway

I see these comments a lot and I've been a "serious" PC gamer for 20 years this year and used to have all these kinds of problems myself. Bluescreens were super common, I needed regular backups because Windows would suddenly not boot because the boot manager got corrupted or whatever. And installing Windows was always a pain in the ass because something would refuse to work every time.

But ever since Win 7/10 it's been pretty smooth sailing. This is true on the software side as well. Games that used to crash all the time don't anymore. I even heavily mod stuff like Fallout 4 and Skyrim and never have problems. There's the occasional issue often related to peripherals or their drivers but other than that everything runs so well. So I dunno if it's just that I don't have a lot of weird programs and drivers, that I'm good at picking components or what, but my experiences have been very positive these last few years.

Games never look as good as I expect. Combine that with performance never being as good as I think it will be, even when playing old games, and I just feel let down.

I'm thinking I may as well just stick just to console gaming, as it doesn't feel like it's worth the premium I paid for my computer (RTX 3080 and R9 5900X).

I've always had access to a high end PC through work, usually a top o the line Laptop, Dell Precision's with Quadro's then XPS's and now Alienwares and still prefer to game on my console, there's just something easy with picking up my PS4 controller and by the time i've sat myself down on the couch the console has switched on, the TV auto switches to the right input and I'm good to go. I get no pleasure gaming at a desk with a mouse and KB (although my skills at FPS take a 10fold increase over a fucking controller and i can now hit shit accurately), games wise i dont see a £2500 difference between my laptop and console and those additional frames or detailed trees in the distance are certainly not worth a 3080 price premium.

Having said all of the above, now that Bethesda have been bought out by MS, ill probably go through the hassle to play the next Elder Scrolls

PC gaming is mostly playing games made for console with a much more expensive hardware, more freedom and the usual compatibility issues.

it certainly isn’t better, it’s different and surely is more expensive.

I want what's OP smoking.

If you can't see the difference between textures, the resolution, the framerate, then I guess the greater experience is a lost cause on you.

PC is not only about gaming. Pc is my multimedia device, my device for browsing the internet. I will NEVER use a console or a smart phone or tablet to browse the internet because you CAN'T. Not the same way as on a pc.

I need a pc for my studies (programming, organising all my files, because things like scripts and exercises are digital). Then I use my pc for gaming. I have 3 monitors and a tv on the backside of my desk, for when I like to watch something from my bed. All 4 of them connected to the pc.

I can to all these things HOW I want, WHEN I want. Like to play a game with a controller? Great, I can even switch from my ps4 to my ps3 controller and in the future to a a ps5 maybe. Or I just play with mouse / keyboard. Oh I can even do things in parallel! What a weird concept. I can open resources for games like Discord Servers, wikis and so on WHILE playing a game. Additionally I can watch Youtube, Netflix, Twitch blabla without having powering on an extra device.

But I forgot, a PC is only for gaming. Silly me.

(RTX 3080 and R9 5900X).

I hope hope you had enough money for decent memory with this kit.

I found out the hardway that my 2700X can't really keep up with my 3090 given the slow memory I have on the unit. Plan on upgrading that soon with a new gen Ryzen.
I think people tend to over hype or over expect from the hardware.

Console gamers have been playing at 30FPS or below for decades - and you're saying PC, where people have been playing at high res + 60 FPS for decades, "continues to disappoint?"

when i first moved from console gaming back to PC gaming in 2013 a gtx 680 at 1080p and 60fps blew me away.

Now my rtx 3080 continues to blow me away at 144fps and 1440p.

Console gaming is great, but graphically PC gaming continues to blow it away. You need to pay a premium for that though, so I understand why console gaming continues to appeal to many people and dont get me wrong, console games look amazing as well.

There are just too many exclusive PC games you are missing with console only. Forget the visual quality, you are missing out on too much stuff as a gamer with a console-only approach. Similar the other way around too, you can't be a PC-only gamer too and expect to play all the best games. It's a shame but you need so many platforms if you wanna sample all the best stuff.

For the sake of "optimization" I guess dev could just remove the "ultra" setting and write the very high as ultra and everyone would praise them for " good optimization" .

I mean I couldnt tell the different between very high and ultra nowadays but one is 40fps and the other is 60fps . :messenger_grinning_sweat:

I prefer playing games on PC just alone for the MOD Support. Many games are unplayable on console because they are just bad and nothing you can do about it.

PC platform, it is open, free and upgradable. We don’t see crap like “pay for online”, people fighting over who has the best “pixels” and PC gamers do not bend over and take one for the team.

so yeah want to talk about disappointment!?
try reading the bad things companies do on consoles!

By far the largest number of games, combined to all consoles put together. PC gets every game released except Nintendo first party, and Sony, but thats changing. PC has far more exclusive Indie and AA games coimpared to console. Your whole game history there for you to play anytime, and not held back by generations. The rez you want to play at, the framerate you want to play at, adjust settings for your preference. Mouse and Keyboard or controller support in the vast majority of games. Game prices that are sooo much cheaper than console, if you know where to look. Mod support, and mods can change a game and add so much vareity and extend a games life. The use of trainers and cheats compared to console where there are none.
PC is freedom., PC is life.

PC gamer for almost 30 years. Never been disappointed. In fact, my consoles died more often than PC hardware (except HDDs).

Sometimes you need to work a little to make a game work right for you. But if the game doesn't work right on a console there's no helping it.

Mouse and keyboard for any game that involves shooting. I own a Switch, Xbox One X and PS4 Pro and I have REALLY tried to make the switch to consoles exclusively (just in hopes of separating my work tool from my leisure tool) but aiming with a controller makes me just not want to play at all. I've been PC gaming for nearly 25 years (console as well but mostly games like Mario or RE/SH and FF etc...) and since so many games now rely on aiming and or quick twitchy movement I have just been mostly gaming on PC despite owning every console (and beating many exclusives like Uncharted, Last of Us, Spider-Man etc...). I just turn the settings down to whatever is going to allow the game to run at 50+ FPS and move on.

Man, the performance on PC games is great...but my dudes, the freedom of the platform is what makes me love it. If I want to replace all the badguys in Dark Souls with big titty Tomas the Tank Engine, I can. If I want to play some cool ass GBA JRPG with a PS4 controller, I can. If I want to run a macro to automatically level my fishing in FFXIV while watching Naruto and talking to folks on Discord on the same machine, I can.

I completely acknowledge that there are some awesome games that are only on consoles, but they'd have to come with free blowjobs and ice cream to make me give up PC gaming.

OP your problem is you, not PC gaming. Sort yourself out.

With sony games coming to PC there is honestly no reason to own a console unless you have to play the latest woke 3rd person story based action game on day 1. Console is also missing some good PC games, Escape from Tarkov comes to mind, and you can't mod as extensively on a sony or MS device.

The games look amazing and 60+ fps is worth it.

PC gaming isn't worth the cost premium and the hassle, especially this gen with relatively powerful console hardware. Last gen with the relatively weak PS4 and Xbone I guess you could have made an argument.

Lol @ buying a 3080 and a 5900x and not knowing what performance you get. Maybe check beforehand, sounds stupid to me.
Rocking a 3080 and a 3900x thought about upgrading to a 5900x as well but building m home cinema took priority.

knowing what u pay and receive back in performance is the key to being happy with purchases. Always inform yourself before u buy something.

Sounds more like a you problem and not a PC gaming problem.
There is just so much more flexibility on PC compared to consoles, games are generally cheaper and you don’t have to worry if older media ( disc—carts ) are compatible with new hardware.

For the current cross gen games it's not.
Money would be better spent(saved) on a XSX/PS5 combo.
*edit*
Thankfully pc gaming isn't limited to whatever is also on console.
So that beefy CPU can actually be put to use with emulators like Dolphin etc.
Also in most cases you can achieve 60fps when the console version is running something lower like sub 30fps.

Emulation is possible with XSX as well plus a person can add a raspberry pi or a Super Console X like box for emulation.

So XSX/PS5/Emulation box=a better cheaper combo 🤷‍♂️

I also have a few Gaming PC's and find the games I can't get on consoles to be worse than the games I can't get on PC.

Also I don't buy many new games on PC over the consoles as the cheating is out of control.

I do enjoy my classics like Crysis 3 and Black Mesa on PC though.
