MLB The Show 21 is coming to Game Pass on day 1 (April 20)

They will continue selling games full price and not on a pass day 1.
Sorry to break it to you... they are putting this game on a pass day 1. True though, they are still selling it to PS players at full price. If you can’t see why that’s not good for you I have a bridge you might like to buy? It has the Sony logo on it and everything...

This is MLBs decision and in the end I believe what you said is right. Depending on how long Sony studios Contract is with the MLB, I can see Sony pulling out from production going forward.

Doesn’t matter if this is MLB’s decision, Sony has to match and put it on +/Now since it’s their game. If they don’t then I will honestly reconsider the PS5 as my main platform and take my money elsewhere because the value proposition in the long run seems to be getting worse by the week.

They already gave away The Show 19 on PS+. Not day one. Europeans was not happy when it happened as most ppl dont care about basebal here.
Exactly, this thing will blow up to some extent but its mainly something that concerns people in the US. To most people outside the US, a baseball game is pretty meh.

Mate I buy my games. I don't want them attached to a service I have to keep paying for to play.

I'm clearly talking about on PlayStation. They don't want to lose billions when Sony has finally turned things around after the ps3 gen nearly put them out of business.

Paying to own games on PlayStation is good. The likes of god of war, horizon, TLOU, ghost of tsutshima, gran tourismo and ratchet are worth buying day 1 and if not they get really generous sales after launch.

Nintendo are the same obviously minus the generous sale prices. I don't expect them to turn into a charity where I get all that day 1 for $1 a year.

MS do that because like I said they've lost so much relevance. Destroyed last gen and this gen the sales are going the same way. Ps5 is in far higher demand.

Why people constantly ignoring that Sonys studio developed a game. LOL. Thay can't bypass Sony in this just like that.

They can since MLB is the soul owner of the license. And is the soul reason why this game is now multiplatform. They made the new terms with Sony that it was going to be published by MLB on other platforms. Sony has no say they are not the owner of MLB. They just own the studio that makes it. New deal seems to be MLB has publishing control for "other" platforms. So hence they made the deal with MS for gamepass. They get the money, and SOny gets what ever MLB gives them per their developer deal and publishing on Playstation platform.

They could, but they wont. ANd honestly lets see how well it does on Gamepass. If numbers are good then we might see the next iteration on gamepass next year as well. If it still sells more on PS5/PS4 which It will, then leverage wise MLB will want a lot more from Microsoft to have it free on gamepass. The microtransaction transactions on xbox will be the deciding factor. If sales for Microtransactions are super high on xbox, then they may have the next one free as well. But if PS4/PS5 show higher sales for in game purchases, then it's going to cost more than double for what this deal is currently. Also I bet there is a 6 month time limit on this gamepass deal. Similar to Red dead 2 on gamepass. It left after like 6 months or so.

Spot on. Sony has no say as to how the game releases on other platforms.

But the question is, for how long? Third party games don't stay on GP. Sony can do 3 things:

- PS+
- PSnow day one
- Give it away with the "Stay at Home initiative"

Yup. I bet this is for 6 months similar to DMC5 and Red dead 2. It depends on what the deal was for how long and under what stipulations in keeping it on there longer. I doubt though it's longer than 6 months.

6 months is basically more than half the lifespan of a yearly sports title though. People stop playing a couple months as they get burned out/hyped for the next yearly iteration.

And by then the game will be $20 or less to own. 6 months starting on launch is absolutely huge for this type of game.

This is the reason EA doesn't do it with their own and they rather give them away a few months down the line instead. Early hype is critical.

Sony doesn’t publish the game on Xbox so it’s not entirely their decision. The MLB makes the calls, and they are the ones publishing on Xbox.
They are not, however I am reacting towards, when we have such thread, few weeks back and people were saying that what I wrote...unironically

I am a huge Sony fan, but this is getting embarrassing at this point.

I mean FFS you have a 70$ Sony made game thats nearly free on thier competitor Console ?!?! Wtf is this shit, at least put it on PS+ since its YOUR GODDAMN GAME

I dont give a rat ass of how much MS payed them, Might as well put GoW & TLOU2 on Gamepass since im pretty sure MS would pay the ass for it amirite

Id rather if Sony dropped this License instead of having this major PR embarrassment, its not worth it at all

Main thing I WANT to know how the game runs on each, and if we see any difference in using Sony's loading solution vs xbox? But the more people that play this the better honestly. Sony also if it does larger numbers can ask for more money, so its a win/win. I bet they are getting paid well with this new deal to keep making the game. Unless MLB want this to be made by 2k studio who can only make NBA games good, Look at WWE license.

Phil realizes that Xbox is going to be lacking exclusive titles for awhile so he is most likely doing deals to get more third party games on game pass day 1 to hold Xbox fans over until the bigger exclusives start coming out.

Smart move, I will be playing outriders this weekend only because its on game pass....

Not really since all of these have a time-frame. ANd at some point you have to be able to stand on your own two feet.

Huh, i actually had to look it up and it is big in Japan! Well, maybe its just me being Euro-centric but Id still say it doesnt really have a global appeal.
I know what do you mean becouse i'm from italy and there's nothing outside soccer 😂 soccer is the only sport played by kids when they go out with friends or with the family. .i have to meet yet a family that play baseball or american football with the kids like in the movies

I'm not playing outriders or MLB and I'm not going to buy Returnal now either..... what Jim Ryan and all the other clowns running PS must realize is, that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

It doesn't feel fair that he is charging 80 euro for new games and giving away once exclusives to the competing platform to be played at 15 dollars or less.

I won't be buying any more games on PS5 till this changes and if it continues to get worse on PS5, I'm just moving to PC. I won't even sell on the PS5's, I'll just box them up so nobody can buy games for them.

Ah. Yeah, the amount of people who have absolutely nothing in the way of common and basic business sense surprise me but I guess I should be used to it by now.

Still this is a smart move by Microsoft.
