I'm curious if the Saudi Prince investing in, say, TakeTwo, would hamper the likelihood of Sony doing the same, let alone trying to buy them like previous rumors suggested? (though I personally assume Sony didn't have enough money for that anyway, and part of those exclusive content/timed exclusive games/Remakes and Remasters method includes a GTA 3/SA/VC remaster instead of a buyout)

It wasn't for a while though. The point is MS like to muddy the waters when it suits them.

Like all companies, Apple doesnt split out services cause they don't want people to figure out apple TV users.

It's a pretty standard business practice.
So it deserves comment. Sony don't do it. They could easily bundle in their Aniplex revenue to gaming to make it look even better.

If Sony's gaming division was in trouble they prob would do it though and it would be fair to call it out.

No they couldn't, cause shareholders could rightly complain about not giving relevant information. If shareholders noticed than the Sony pictures division revenue dropped x amount and Sony gaming division gained x amount, it would be noticed.

Sony probably does do it for smaller sectors like mobile phones which is grouped into their Electronic Products and Solutions categories.

Getting back to the point of my topic, can you show me evidence of Microsoft misclassifying revenue so it goes under the xbox division?

Looking forward to seeing the final design of the Sony car, Apple car, and the electric Mini Cooper (call me not super straight but I have always liked that cute little sly cooper). :)

Expect Q4 financials on or around the 13th of May this year...

Followed by full year report

So that is a month and a half or 2 away and should contain very interesting information.

Is it possible for SIE to do merger with mega publishers i wonder?
Why would Sony merge with them when they actually have the cash to outright acquire nearly any publisher in the industry? But answering your question, yeah, of course that a merger it's a possibility as well.

i personally doubt Sony would spend a huge amount cash on a video game publisher alone, since the cash was owned by Sony overall and not just SIE, so i would thought a merger is more possible to do so.

Well, they were/are among the parties looking into acquiring Sega, so I wouldn't rule out an acquisition of that scale in case it fits the interests of both SIE and Sony Corp - which certainly is the case for the whole Sega thing, although due to some recent developments (Nexon's multi-million investment) I'm doubtful on whether it will pan out in the end.

Where is your source for this claim? I'm very curious.

I can't answer that now, at least not until some other stuff starts to get announced during the spring, giving the source credibility in the mods' eyes.

Is this something you've already discussed with the mods? Also, just curious if this is a public source that others can look up or a private source you have.

Sega? Big doubt, they just got a huge investment & are very healthy now.

So is the source for your claim publicly accessible or not? I'm not trying to tell you how to communicate but you should probably keep that information private if you don't want to publicly elaborate.

Well we don't know exactly how much was invested into Sega Sammy... Do we? I could be wrong but I didn't see the amounts divulged per company.

SEGA's a bit of a tricky proposition. They have some great IP and history, but generally speaking their performance over the years has not been great.

The trouble for Sony particularly is that SEGA as a brand-name is where so much of their value lies, and if you have Playstation already, it basically means having to prop up a secondary brand. What's worse is that its a sub-brand that's never effectively competed against the primary, and so is arguably a lesser way to present their content.

Sony is lacking in Japanese franchises. The only major ones left in Japan that aren't already owned by Nintendo are Dragon Quest, Monster Hunter and to a somewhat lesser extent Final Fantasy. It would make some sense for them to buy Square Enix and make that software house as their identity in the region I think it would boost SE software sales even further but I'm not sure Musashi or whoever the original family member/owner/majority stakeholders are interested in that. The price Sony would pay per share with a premium for Capcom isn't worth it because World 2 on PS5/XSX and Rise 2 on Switch 2 and so on and so forth is working for them. In my humble, shitty opinion.

Sega would fit very well if you think about it...

Persona and Yakuza have been PS exclusive for years until Yakuza recently went to Gamepass.

A fighting game like Virtua Fighter would fit well with EVO

Sonic and the huge roster of other characters would be excellent to create a Smash-like game with R&C, Sly, Astrobot, Sackboy etc etc.

Once they eliminated Segas own publishing and integrated with Sony's own, it would take a huge overhead out of the equation and make it cheaper to just get games out....

I'm all for such a move from Sony.

Sony shouldn't dilute their brand with Sega shit.

Sony needs to snag some indie devs (Housemarque, Bluepoint, IO Interactive, Kojima Productions, etc) AND buy exclusive rights to Konami IP. They'd be pretty set IMO.
Yeah. Waste of money buying sega

Sony is breaking industry records, they don't need a merge or to acquire a mega publisher. But in case Sony would be interested, they have money to buy a huge publisher, don't need to merge.

The most logical strategy for Sony right now would be to continue their current strategy: to continue growing their successful studios (Naughty Dog, Santa Monica, Insomniac, Guerrilla, Sucker Punch, Bend...) to allow them make more games and in less time with more resources in addition to buy devs with a long relationship with Sony making successful exclusives for them (Bluepoint, Quantic Dream, Housemarque, Kojipro) while continuing investing in tons of 3rd party (doesn't matter if timed or console) exclusives from very well known pubs/devs like Square Enix, Arc System Works, Kadokawa, Platinum, etc. and also from tons of cool indies in addition of making some steps to position them better in some strategic areas (like to partner with the UFC owners to buy Evo to be in a better position for fighting games genre and the console eSports) and to make some tech/patents related acquisitions for future PSNow and PSVR2 stuff.

Yes, for different reasons Sega would be a good fit for Sony, MS and Nintendo.

Sega has current IPs that perform very well in console like Persona or Yakuza, other ones in PC like Football Manager, and other ones that may be smaller hits but have big potential to grow or at least to shine in PS Plus or a revamped PS Now like Sonic, Shin Megami Tensei, Bayonetta, Streets of Rage and an insane amount of retro classics for previous console and arcade that would be a great fit -again- for growing and making more appealing PS Plus and PS Now with a huge catalog of classic games, which can be combined with reviving tons of these classic IPs with smaller scale outsourced hits like Sonic Mania, Wonder Boy or Streets of Rage 4 (Shinobi, Golden Axe, Out Run etc). In fact Sony could buy at the same time Dotemu and the devs who worked in these recent and successful revivals, they would be very cheap for Sony.

Regarding Virtua Fighter, which was very big in Japan and would be welcome in the FGC and EVO, Sega mentioned to be working on eSports focused Virtua Fighter stuff. So it would be a great move for Sony to announce in EVO they purchased Sega and to announced there a new Virtua Fighter.

Any word on Square ENIX? SE's twitter account is seemingly Obessed with xbox and gamepass at the moment. Like almost every other tweet is about xbox or gamepass, really strange.

Square Enix ain't going to be bought by either, Sega is a possible but there are a couple of PC first developers within Sega Europe that might need to be split out.

Super Monkeyball and Bayonetta would be great additions too. Their revenue is surprisingly high for the market value compared to other video games companies.

A lot of potential if the IP's are managed properly.

If they kept some releases on PC too.... like Football manager, Total War and one or two others. You could see revenue of PlayStation go well over 30 billion.

True, I’m guessing Phil dropped a big check off to SE for game pass. It’s weird that these games aren’t “on xbox” per se because they hardly ever get physical releases and when the contracts up they’re no longer on game pass. Really weird strategy

Because part of the strategy is to eliminate the "exclusive." Why do you think MS made such a big deal about getting Yakuza and the FF games that weren't there previously? No more exclusivity by default.

Getting rid of the “exclusive by default” PR is pointless imo. Those Japanese games audiences is on PlayStation. They will never sell the same amount on Xbox. That’s why they need gamepass as a crutch.

All MS is doing is pleasing minuscule hardcore Xbox fans for forum arguments.

Even with what they’re trying to do, PlayStation still gets exclusives from Japan by default. Not to mention timed exclusives from Square Enix.

I’d buy them in Xbox if they were physically available and ran better on Xbox. Otherwise, I have no interest in having these games on GamePass.

Basically every moderately well known Japanese dev/publisher, big and small, had/will have at least one PS4 exclusive. How many of them had XBO exclusives? Sony dominates MS on consoles worldwide and specially on Japan, this is why they prefer Japanese devs/publishers to put their exclusives on PS.

Regarding 3rd party exclusives -both from big publishers or from indies-, in recent times Sony (and MS) seems to have switched from asking them "full console exclusive" or even publishing some of these games as 2nd party to asking them only for 3rd party self-published timed console exclusivity.

This helps 3rd party devs/publishers because since they self publish they get a bigger revenue share from the games, and also being able to release their games on other platforms sooner or later and keep their IPs help them to get extra revenue to compensate rising costs that appear each new generation and compensate the bigger competition. And also helps Sony (and MS) because investing less on each 3rd party exclusive is less risky, plus keep these 3rd party dev/publisher happier due to getting a better deal makes more likely to have a future additional deal, and since they spend less on each exclusive for the same money they can invest on more exclusives with the same amount of money.

On top of that, some Japanese devs/publishers in recent times have been switching their focus from mostly the Japanese market to a more global market to aim for a bigger revenue, so this also meant to consider releasing their games on more platorms than being focused on a single one because outside Japan the market share isn't that focused on a couple of platforms, but instead is more spread into the 3 platforms and PC.

Who is talking about anything being XB exclusive? I was talking about the perception of things being PS exclusive since they weren't on XB (purely from a western standpoint).

Not to mention that Sega comes with it's dev studios, they have some very competent ones, some of which would get even better interacting more with ICE and WWS.
If Xbox somehow ends up buying Sega, which i doubt, i would probably start gaming primarily on xbox. With Sega and Atlus being under the same roof, Yakuza and Persona and SMT would be too much to ignore.

Even if that happens, remember that MS kept Minecraft, Double Fine or (at least some of them) Bethesda games on other platforms. They could do the same with Sega. Sony instead traditionally makes fully exclusive all the future games developed by the studios they purchase.

Which is kinda why square and the pc parts of sega don't make sense for Sony unless they shift in a sense

Heard nothing about Square Enix as that's not a front that my source has covered, although I'd say that Twitter and other stuff (like current marketing/publishing deals for upcoming games) are not a good indication of what could be going behind the scenes in terms of acquisitions, because the Bethesda deal was announced in the midst of Sony having timed console exclusivity for Deathloop and Ghostwire on PS5 and nearly locking on a deal for Starfield as well.
