Pyra/Mythra are amazing in Smash. They're going to get nerfed.
Played about seven matches earlier and they're good. I used Link and it was difficult to get a win, only won once lol. All the moves they call out are great though, this character is a nice addition to the roster. I don't know how anybody can get a win against her without using a character without projectiles though. Even with them, it's still tough to find an entry versus Pyra/Mythra because she can throw her sword a fair distance and I think with Mythra she is able to send those green projectiles that cover much area as well. I like this character a lot though, despite not knowing her

I checked the eShop recently while I was adding some codes, and saw that the Famicom detective bundle is indeed a full price 60 dollar game. Again; I appreciate them reviving these niche franchises, but at this price they're setting themselves up for disappointment.

Yeah I will probably wait for a price drop. I am still interested though and it sounds like they actually did put some hard work into remastering them, unlike Super Mario 3D All-Stars.

Was playing some Breath of Fire II on the Nintendo Switch SNES Online and it seems like it's a good game. Very touching beginning to start the game, and an interesting start to this adventure. I read that the guy's name is Ryu Bateson so I decided to just name the character Ryu in his honor

wow im playing Donkey Kong Country 3 for the first time on the SNES Online and,i never really liked the DKC 1/2 games because i felt the difficulty was very frustrating and maybe a little cheap, never enjoyed them really, but im having tons of fun with this one! Its now my second favorite only after Tropical Freeze 👌

Demons Crest is also awesome

Edit: hmm, ok i might be wrong about how 'cheap'DKC1 is, finished 3 and having fun with the first one as well , i just found DKC2(GBA) to be unfairly hard for some reason lol , only played parts of DKC1 but never bought it

So apparently Kakarot is coming to Switch (there is a Switch logo on the latest video) i just finished playing on PS4 and didn't thought it would come to Switch because it was already 30fps and with lots of pre rendered cutscenes, but its gonna be interestinģ, its a very cool game for any DBZ fan 👍 lovely graphics and tons of love for the series shown everywhere.

I don't know if I'd dip in for Kakarot, a part of me wants to but after watching Dragon Ball Super I kind of don't want to go around anything Dragon Ball related.

I heard it was good so I might give it a chance idk.

Bravely Default II continues to be great. Just reached chapter 2 and already got a taste of how far can they go with some of the character's back stories. Hopefully the game keeps delivering.

How does it compare to Octopath Traveller if you played that?
I played OT for some time, but never finished it. I did not understand the fighting system in it, so I decided to drop it after finishing all initial stories. BD2 on the other hand grabbed me right from the beginning. If you ask me, I would recommend BD2 10-fold agains OT. Music was great in both, and while stories are nothinh to write home about, at least BD2 is easy and simple to follow.

Yeah I have it on PS4 too because of this. If anything it’s just taught me to wait for a Switch version and if it doesn’t happen or the port sucks, the original will be cheap anyway.

Thanks! I loved the combat in OT so if the combat in BD2 grabs me even more that would be great!

I heard a description of the gameplay on ign's NVC podcast and it sounds quite unique. Has any other rpg had a combat mechanic like that where you can use your turns up all at once like a cash advance and have to pay it back if you didn't manage to defeat all the enemies?

It feels like you could teach a lesson on what happened with GME stock using BD's combat system lol

At least I have not seen this system before I played Bravely Default on 3DS way back. In the the most basic terms, defaulting is just parry from Dragon Quest, but with an added perk of getting another move later without any consequence. I like also the risk/reward thing, where you can use brave in advance, even if you do not have default points. It is a good system if you ask me.

I would still have my gold coins if only I hadn’t discovered that Shadow Dragon and The Blade of Light is available for a limited time only.

I went from “Three Houses is the only FE game I need right now” to “must buy this instant” upon reading “limited” once. Why do you manipulate me so, Nintendo?!

Finished Super Mario 3D World and I'm about halfway through Bowsers Fury. 3D World was good, but a bit short. I appreciated the call back to traditional 2D Mario such as World and SMB 3, the levels were great in and of itself, but I had some issues with the isometric view causing a bit of frustration with certain parts. Overall, it's still a high quality platformer and I'm happy I finally got to try it out.

Bowsers Fury on the other hand is so far very good. I'd say it's even great. Feels like a new and fresh spin on a true and tried formula. Fun and creative levels, which add a little extra spice with Bowsers rage fits. I hope this is some form of a prototype for a new 3D Mario.

Defeated Bowser in Bowsers Fury and watched the end credits. Best 3D Mario since Galaxy. Absolutely loved it and couldn't stop playing. Despite being an add on it felt surprisingly meaty. Almost like a full game. I've collected 68 cat shines so far. I'm definitely going for 100 in this one.

Got Fire Emblem before it gets taken off the eShop, and I actually think this has held up very well!

Feels almost like Shining Force in gameplay but a little more basic I guess? Still....can fully understand how to use Units and appreciate where they were going with it back then.

Same, I have so much more interest in that than the actual 3D World game. I think it is very unlikely though.

Yeah I think it's not happening. 3D World may actually be the best Mario game ever made. I have no idea how I played through this on Wii U without fully realizing it. The fact that you can get 3D World + Bowser's Fury for $60 is stunning, really. If they split them apart, you can expect to still pay $60 for 3D World and at best $40 (if not $50) for Bowser's Fury.

I’m looking forward to playing it. But I don’t think anything will top Odyssey, at least for a long while. That game is love and joy in a cart. Not even cats can dethrone that.

Earthbound / Mother 1-3

Does anyone understand the legalities that this game faces well enough to provide cliffs?
What do mean exactly and for what?

As far as I'm aware their aren't any legal reasons preventing them from being re-released (Earthbound has already been done 3 times already) the only one that hasn't been re-released/translated would be Mother 3 and that is most likely due to some potentially controversial jokes in the game (woke people would try to to cancel it) nothing stopping them legally from releasing it from what I can tell.

I guess it was never confirmed but sone fans hypothesized that legal issues prevented the series from being released. But I just looked and apparently there is a game called Earthbound Beginnings available for the Wii U and the SNES Classic has Earthbound also available for purchase. So maybe Nintendo just doesn’t think releasing all three would be lucrative or something? It should have happened on the Switch I would think, I’m wondering why all three games aren’t available on Switch if there are no legal barriers. I read an article the other day on an Earthbound fan website looking for answers and one user was talking about how there was an actual company in Canada who refused to allow Earthbound to be released because there are yo-yos and use the word yo-yo; the user also went on to detail plenty other things that are holding back the release of Earthbound games, but I stopped reading fairly early in the article. The link below will show you, I’ll read it in full probably tmrw

Edit: It seems as though the Yo-yo bit isn't completely false, I'm looking into it now but not gonna edit what I said in my post.

That is from 2009 way before it got released on virtual console and I'm pretty sure a lot of the fan speculation on why they didn't release it was bs, like people guessing that a potential copyright song early in the game when you fight some gang leader (I think) was causing them to hold back but that was not true. I mean the Yo-yo story just sounds like fan nonsense, that'd be like if a company tried to get Saints Row blocked because it has a basketball or cars in it..

Their likely was no legal reasons for them not releasing Earthbound until Wii U, they likely just thought it was too niche to put the effort in, the original release on Super Nintendo was a flop and I don't think reviews were good either, it only started to really get second wind in the 2000s I think and that isn't enough of a justification to take a possible vocal minority on the internet seriously... at the time at least. Nintendo never really gave in to fan demand until late in the Wii's life, but they took some risks that paid off which lead to them releasing Earthbound on Wii U virtual console in 2013.

Earthbound on Wii U was a huge success for Nintendo, it is why since then they've been releasing Earthbound when they can. Now why is it not on Switch? I'm pretty sure its coming eventually, think it'll be a part of the Mother campaign they've been doing in Japan for the past year but its garenteed to come out on Switch imo it's already proven itself.

As for Earthbound Beginnings, it was announced as the first time they were translating and releasing Mother 1 for western audiences. Nobody talks about Mother 1 and don't think people wanted it either, word is it performed way below expectations. Nintendo is not likely to release that again since nobody wants to play it (from what I've seen its just a worse Earthbound anyway) so they might as well not bother.

Mother 3 as I've said is likely due to potential controversy, not any legal issues. They also just haven't had a good time to release it. its a GBA game iirc and the only time they've done a VC for that was Wii U but it was dead after Earthbound Beginnings came out. Their was speculation that Earthbound Beginnings performing so poorly could've also changed Nintendo's mind on translating Mother 3 but I don't see why it would.

Still did not finish Breat of the Wild, but damn, this is probably the best game ever. I do not want to finish it.

It's probably because of the Magypsies. It'd be like willingly stepping into a minefield these days.

So... I hear Nintendo has a killer lineup this year. Where is it? Guys it is almost April.
I don’t expect much until Summer. I kinda think that’s when Nintendo will decide to show their hand. My guess would be late June or mid July. Like last year, when Paper Mario: The Origami King was revealed out of nowhere and completed; ready to release in only a couple months. Except I think most of the news will be in June probably. That’s my feeling, but who knows really, maybe their developers are still being affected by the pandemic in some way(s)?

All I know is, if Nintendo releases another BOTW2 trailer then I’ll be excited. That, and a TLoZ Collectors Edition of some sort would be the perfect news for a fan like me. Anything else would be a “nice bonus” (Josh Stone / Resident Evil 5 voice initiated)

Why wouldn’t the thread survive? All the active members are still subbed. And you’re regarding it as an oasis from the main gaming section BS.

Give it a chance to play out as it is. We can follow up later to see the state of things and whether it needs to be reevaluated. We're here to help.

Can we follow-up now, after 1 month and having lost most active posters?
I reckon the concerns were valid and I would appreciate if we could have the thread back to the main gaming forum. It’s not a community thread, it’s a Nintendo related gaming BS thread ;)

Have you been everywhere on the map? I love sharing secrets about Breath of the Wild.

Did you discover the fish shoals or find the place where Swift Violets grow in mass quantities (Best ingredient for speed potions so essential at the end for clearing up the map)? Or is there a weapon you love but you don't find it a lot in the world, I could give you a hint as to where to find it reliably.

If you haven't done all the snow parts yet here is a great timesaver for melting the big ice crystals: Everything that generates heat will increase the pace at which it melts, so putting all your fire weapons on the ground next to it will melt it rapidly.

Sorry if you aren't looking for hints, just tell me to stfu in that case, I get too excited ha.

I've spent over 200 hrs with BOTW and there is a village I still haven't found, apparently...not sure if it's DLC or not (was told by a friend it isn't) but there is a town that Link helps build from the ground up or something like that

That's one of the most significant side quests in the game, but it's gated by needing to collect a lot of wood. It's been a while since I played BotW, but I remember that part being rather tedious.
