Stadia rejected Hideo Kojima's proposal to create an exclusive horror game for the platform

Stadia is the ultimate platform for Kojima because that way he can release any game he wants without any fear for player backlash.

Am I reading it wrong or the thread title states a different thing from the article quoted?
Stadia didn't reject a Kojima's proposal, they approached him and made a deal for a game that they decided to cancel later?
And btw this is just one of the projects that Kojima was talking about, there was not just one and we don't know the scope of the project with Google.
Also probably now the concept for that game is being shopped to other publishers.

I cry about SonyGaf from my chair in Redmond, WA
If you get rejected by stadia for making an exclusive then Google isn't the issue lol.

UPDATE 28 February 2021: In a statement to GamesRadar+, Google says VGC's report "was inaccurate and reported hearsay as fact" and that VGC's assertions about cancelled Kojima and Yu Suzuki “projects” are not true.

It further added that Google "[doesn't] have anything, nor have announced anything, with Kojima or Yu Sazuki".

Kojima had its prime on MGS4. From there it went all downhill.

Since Death Stranding was a massive failure, and Kojima Productions brand tarnished, its no wonder they rejected Kojima.

I'm not defending Google's shitty decissions on Stadia, but I think this one is one of the few (if any) good ones.

I don't know why some of you keep praising him, when he should've retired when he was on his peak (like Miyamoto or Yu Suzuki).
Ah, that's why it sold milions, because it was a massive failure. Make sense. :messenger_tears_of_joy: :messenger_tears_of_joy: 🧠🧠

The funny thing about this is that if it existed and was being made it would've come out after Stadia was dead in the water and on the oecan floor.

This news kinda doesn’t make sense to me really. Because I know MS would LOVE to fund a horror exclusive game on Xbox . Even if death stranding sales were horrible , Sony still want Kojima under their wing for another exclusive . Why would kojima approach google of all companies ?

Rumor were Kojima was planning to make a episodic horror game so it will release like a 1 episode like a month and be like 1-8 episode total that why he was working with Stadia before they cancel it and now he is probably working with Xbox since a episodic horror game would work great with the gamepass formula.

Rumours are our Boy Spencer working with Kojima now on some exclusive Game pass game.
Ah wondering when Game Piss was going to get mentioned in this thread.

I love the Kojima is a Hack people who can’t seem to understand why millions of people continue to play highly acclaimed games by this extremely competent director.

And of course if it was up to them then the last 4 games he made just wouldn’t exist? Wow yeah ok glad you have zero influence on the games industry.

I love Kojima's games but looking at the money spent on MGSV and Death Stranding you'd hope the sales would be a lot higher.

Don't know why any major publisher would give him a blank cheque, as enjoyable and creative as his games are they are too niche.

If Stadia were actually going to go somewhere (and thank God it's not), they'd need games you could only get on Stadia to draw people in. A Kojima exclusive horror game would be a good start.

To think Google passed the opportunity to have a plattaform with the biggest number of japanese exclusives, second only to Nintendo. Tsc, tsc.

Enjoyable, creative games have an audience, even if they're niche, it's just finding it. If the rockstar Japanese devs can't find it, especially with Norman Reedus and the like leading the cast, nobody can.

This is a distribution problem more than a game problem. The barrier for Death Stranding wasn't that it was kind of a weird game, and I don't believe it was the gameplay loop (which wasn't too far off from many other third person action games in almost every way). It was those things combined, plus a $60 price tag, plus some not great marketing.

People didn't know what it was, they didn't really get that you didn't run around shooting stuff and they weren't interested in paying full price to find out if they didn't like it. That's a shame, because it was an awesome game, but it would've benefited from some other release method.

Kojima stated in May 2020 that Death Stranding had sold enough to recoup the development costs and turn a profit, securing funding for Kojima Production's next project.

Death Stranding was already profitable a year ago. Not sure where this lie that he can't find success outside MGS started.

Almost feels like spurned MGS fans make up the bulk of Kojima's detractors these days. They can't get past that one series. Repeating lies that he can't get success outside of it is probably just hopefully wishing.

That could be part of it. I chalk a lot of it up to just how much attention he gets. He's very revered in the industry, and I can agree that it comes across as a little foofy sometimes. I think when you garner that kind of reaction. there will lots of people who don't vibe with it, can't understand the hype, and feel the need to lash out because they are tired of hearing about how great something is when they don't care about it. Throwing around the term "genius" seems to irk people often as well.
Just my two cents. I'm a huge fan of Kojima. His games have a way of really immersing me and pulling me into his world.

Which is funny because in reality they care more about MGS than Kojima himself does.

"Profitable" doesn't mean successful. The fact that the game was quickly ported to PC shows that Sony wasn't impressed by the sales.

I'd say profitable means exactly that -- successful.

The business goal of making that game was to earn profits. One could argue whether it was a little bit successful or hugely successful, but it was successful either way.

I don’t understand why would kojima try and make games for the stadia, don’t they have a Sony deal?

and why not approach Microsoft ?

What game engine would Kojima use? Wasn't the last one he used created by Sony? I doubt Sony would allow them to use it for any other system.

I feel anything Phil Harrison touches nowadays ends up being a failure. He did great in the 90’s when he worked for Sony Europe and helped video game becomes more mainstream and not be seen as a kids toy. But that’s pretty much it.

Maybe it was more Sony, than Phil that lead to that 90s greatness.
