Move Over Horse Armor - The New Xbox Wireless Headset Comes With 6 Months Of Dolby Atmos

I am sure it has already been covered on here, but here is the deal:

Dolby Atmos for your home theater system through the Xbox Series X is no charge. MS has already paid for the license fee to include that on the console.

Dolby Atmos for Headphones is a different software that you must pay a license for to use. You also have to pay for the license to use it on PC, but you can share the license between PC and Xbox.

OP is making a big fuss over nothing really. There are other headphone spatial audio setups you can choose: Windows Sonic (free), DTS Headphone:X ($20). They give you the choice in what you want to use. There is a free option, which would be similar to the spatial/3D audio (as in free, not comparing quality). If you want to use other industry standard processing, you have to pay a little extra. At least MS gives you a choice in what to use.

That bit has been covered many times over but the OP accuses you of bring a fanboy for saying that bit (which ironically he is doing himself)

I don't know what's more troubling. People defending this or people bringing Sony into this lol
Because its ridiculous baiting for the OP.

Xbox headsets - windows sonic default
Ps5 headsets - tempest default

Xbox headsets optional codecs - DTS, Atmos
Ps5 optional codecs - none

What the hell is there to defend? Both work right out of the box and the use a spatial audio codec for free. MS has given Dolby the option of putting their atmos tech on the store if people want to choose an industry standard codec.

Because people mention Sony the OP claims people are console warring... when it's impossible not to include Sony (or any other console) when it includes the default audio option like literally every other console in history has. OP is the the main console warrior here. Many of the gamers the OP claims are console warriors have both consoles.

Since when options are bad? should we now create troll threads having go at Sony for not giving options to people?....blue team is really trying hard to find negatives about Xbox and they fail each time, we have a weekly gamepass concern thread tradition, but this thread is very desperate attempt to make something look negative even when it isn’t.

Exactly this, in the opening post there is TALK about how it is bad offering Atmos for a fee for headphones, i would get it if other consoles would give it as a free option but the other consoles dont even give an OPTION to have Atmos at all.

having OPTIONS is always better, doesn’t mean that everybody will use them

Ask me about my fanboy energy!
It’s actually the ones that don’t realize they’re being made fun of. Hahahaha
and those games(deathloop and ghost wire) are console exclusives for PS5. I’ve never seen anything about Xbox. Just pc
Ghostwire and deathloop will, and have to, release on PS5 exclusively.
Aren’t they timed?
Console exclusives.
Just PS5 and then after the window they can release on PC. They may both do huge numbers depending on where they fall in the release schedule. deathloop had a chance at making launch window before a slight delay. Both set for 2021 though.
it’s killing him that he HAS to have those game go to PS5 exclusively.
Both titles are timed exclusives.
nobody has shown proof of this yet so please do if you have it. As far as I’ve seen they’re going to PC after a year on PS5 exclusively.
so...he has to let the 2 games go to PS5 exclusively? Got it
but he does. If he didn’t have to, he wouldn’t. Isn’t that the narrative when the other IPs come up? One or the other
probably not. The only thing that’s 100% as of now is that deathloop and ghost wire come to PS5 exclusively. After that, who knows.
of course that’s probably Whats gonna happen. Probably. But, deathloop and ghost wire will definitely be going to PS5 exclusively. Definitely. So it’s the only thing we’re 100% sure of. Also, I’ve never played one of the games from the existing IPs except the evil within. But they HAVE to release deathloop and ghost wire on PS5 as the first 2 games after this big deal at the start of a new console generation. That’s a tough thing toHAVE to do. It just is.
As of now the only way it will be playable other than PS5 is on game pass or pc and only AFTER it’s been on PS5 at and during a crucial time. The only thing we know, with absolutely certainty, is that they will both be on PS5 exclusively after next gen starts and they will be the first 2 games that release under the umbrella of the 7.5 billion purchase. Everything else is speculation.
The only ones who are forced to do anything here is Msoft. They have to put
Deathloop and ghostwire on PS5 exclusively while no other games from the deal are even close to being released. If you can get gamepass on PS5 why would anyone buy an xb?
Ghostwire and deathloop will, and have to, release on PS5 exclusively. There are no other games from the 7.5 billion deal with a known release window, let alone a release date. So, because they are obligated, Msoft, who made this purchase to expand their catalog of games, has to release not one, but 2 games exclusively on PS5 for a minimum of one year while not a single game from that deal is out for xb. It’s a timed console exclusive. We don’t know when it will be available on another console. Just pc. So, spending 7.5 billion dollars and having your main competitor benefit from that deal well before you have even one release is where we are at.
Now based on that, do you think that:
A.phil is doing this out of the goodness of his heart.l?
B. Is looking to see how many units these releases sell on PS5 before committing to releasing or not releasing zenimax games on other consoles in the future?
C. he HAS to do it and, based the fact that he’s a business man, it sticking in his craw that PlayStation gets to have an exclusive year of prima nocta with the xb’s new wife?
actually i put it all in the post above yours here^^^

he chose option C, I do too and so do you. But, I do think option B is possible.

Quote within quotes should not be notified. They are meant to provide context not to engage people padded inside another quote.
And they’re from 6 months ago. Since then, they bungled their launch by claiming this

and we know it’s not true. So they had to change it to this
mhBksYY.jpg

AND THEN they embarrassed themselves by trying to double the price of gold and buckled under the cries of the butthurt. So at that point they HAD to make all the games exclusives.

This topic having 14 fucking pages.
Because once upon a time, many here stayed in a magical area they called the safe space. Only to resurface when exclusivity was announced. Now it’s tough sledding because it’s all predicated on another promise and it’s too much to take. Why else would we be talking about PS5 exclusives in THIS thread? DeepEnigma DeepEnigma went DEEP:)

Two things wrong with your post -
1 - it probably is still the world's most powerfull console, just because frank says otherwise doesn't make it so

2 - The gold debacle was nothing more than a lean in on gamepass, they didnt think anyone would even notice, but the internet can't read (as evidenced by all the outraged people who where grandfathered who were still outraged for no reason) so they had to backtrack.
Oh well.

HRTF is not about how many speakers there are. It's about putting the sources of audio in the right location.
The reason I asked is because I'm more familiar with home theater setups, and since I've yet to begin considering Atmos, I did not understand what the branding actually meant.

After some reading, what I've learned about the home theater variant is that it's a substream of either Dolby TrueHD or DD+, which explains why my non-Atmos AVR outputs in DD+ when Windows is set to Home Theater Atmos, and even this compressed in comparison to cinema Atmos. The fullest Atmos experience at home will depend on how many channels you actually have, which can go up to 24.1.10. This is something I've always understood about surround sound: the more channels, the better.

....Which leads me to the questions I've had about these headphones. My assumption was that Atmos-marketed headphones had some kind of separate channels in each ear-cup, but I am now convinced of what you're saying: two channels only, left and right only. (I found several articles recommending best "Atmos" headphones, so imagine my confusion.) The Dolby marketing department wins again. Although, I would agree you'd probably want to use that over Windows Sonic, if the movie or game you're playing supports it.

One minor correction. Whatever Frank says IS so. He single-handedly uncovered the Game pass loophole allowing years of the service for a $1 plus he's been hot on the case on MS extracting their pound of flesh for the XLG price reversal. No one knows more about Xbox than Frank!

Atmos for HT and atmos for headphones are indeed very different products but they both "achieve" the same goal of creating an atmosphere of sound to give the illusion of a 3d space.

HT does this by adding a height channel with literal speakers. Atmos tracks on 4K discs, and some blu rays, are usually built upon existing True HD tracks with the meta data being available to add the extra height but gives dolby the ability to not have to make two full separate tracks.

DD+ is used by most streaming services I believe. Same idea. Allows them to use dolby digital plus and add a height element if the hardware is there without having to make separate tracks.

On the headphone front it's 90 percent of the time two speakers with HRTF to try and place the sources where they should be using algorithms.

HRTF is not new technology by any means but it seems a lot of major players is sound feel like they have nailed HRTF without having to actually apply fully on measurements of the ears and such which is needed to achieve true HRTF sounds that are highly accurate.

I'm sitting next to a PS3 I used extensively for BR playback for years.. curious what you are even talking about here.

It supported the Dolby and DTS standards that were out for BR when it launched.. then added things like Dolby True-HD or DTS-HD MA in firmware updates.. you just installed firmware.. there was no menu option for onlocking decoders Sony paid for lol
I said nothing about BR. There are many more codecs out there, you know. Especially in the case of the PS3, that had very open media playback capabilities.

WMA playback had to be enabled in the system settings.

That’s... not a codec Sony paid for lol

WMA was or I guess is a shitty audio format that comes with DRM where a file can send you to a web site to request a password. It was badly thought out Microsoft DRM that was not particularly safe to open.

So I went out on a limb and purchased the Atmos license last night. Currently, I already own a pair of Astro A50's with Dolby Digital "5.1", so I can't say I really noticed a difference with Atmos. So then I tried a pair of regular headphones, first in stereo format, then Atmos, and I did notice a difference. So I guess unless you're willing to shell out for a headset that already comes with DD, Atmos is probably going to not only be a much cheaper option, but also a comparable option.
