Xbox Series X VR may be coming, codename was find in Microsoft Flight Simulator indicating possible VR support for the console

Tag, you're it.
A new leak indicates that Xbox could be getting VR, or at least it was aiming for it at one point.

One thing that Xbox has always been missing is the presence of a VR headset. PlayStation VR is a huge hit for Sony, and companies like Vive and Oculus are making great strides on PC.
However, Xbox fans have never had the chance to experience virtual reality gaming on the system. Now, new evidence suggests that perhaps VR could still come to Xbox.

According to leaks from the Microsoft Flight Simulator files, the Xbox Series X could well be getting the first next-gen VR headset. This would be a big deal, beating PS VR 2 to the punch.

The Xbox Series X is certainly powerful enough to support a VR headset, the question is whether or not it's worth Microsoft's time to do so.

Um, i can remember Asobo/Xbox saying that VR support was coming to FS 2020 at a later date. I hate to be the one to shut down rumours but it's more than likely to be something to do with that.

That said, seeing as the game is coming to Xbox at some point it would make sense to enable VR support on Series consoles. I'd suspect Xbox are going to partner with someone on VR rather than making it on their own, possibly opening up to 3rd party VR headset support.

Not a VR guy but if this is true, that's pretty huge. Never thought Microsoft would get into the VR game space. They will be banking on a lot of disposable income from people.

Happy for the folks who will be able to experience Flight Simulator in VR!

We have a thread for this already:

Of course I searched for Flight Simulator and not Flight Sim, so this is why I didn't find anything.
I feel so dumb rn :messenger_loudly_crying:

doesn't the PC version have VR

couldn't it be just left over code from that version?

Not yet, there is a mention for the PC VR version and we know it's coming. The new thing here is that "Scarlet_VR", Scarlet being the codename for the Series X

still waiting for RDR2 VR mode since they found such strings in the pc port...

anyway, 2021-23 will be very exciting years for VR, as even Apple is getting onboard... I think by the end of the decade, smartphones and most keyboard or mouse interfaces to a flat screen are finally history, as the whole real world will be covered in a digital overlay

I guess so level of VR compatibility, but definitely MS wont focus on VR. I mean, even the industry as a whole seems to be sligthly moving away from VR.

yes, but the strings were found just when the port was released, many months prior to that announcement, so I don't think they're about the same game

Just allow the oculus quest 2 to work with the Xbox. The quest 2 is just as good as any other headset out there I'd even say better because of the $299 price and use can use it wirelessly. I was playing half life alyx with my quest 2 completely wireless . The $1000 valve index or the $600 ho g2 can't do this but my $300 quest 2 can

From an italian content creator when plugged the new xbox wireless headset the console popped up the message "update VR visor" instead of "headset" or whatever, an error ok,but why translate "visor VR" in italian in the Xbox system?

It would be cool if there was a translucent option. Like with a press of a button and without removing the headset, can see outside your VR headset, that would be an excellent feature.
VR is slowly improving. So much potential. I wonder how we can quickly get to Ready Player One! type of gaming realism.

They’ve for sure worked on VR, the only question is if it actually comes to market

High end VR is so far ahead of normal gaming now, not years from now, right this second. And it fits well with MS library. Forza series, Flight Sim, even single player halo would work well down the road. Fallout and Skyrim VR add alot to it also, Doom, the list goes on.

Just add Oculus Link support. Doubtful MS will make a better (or cheaper) headset than the Quest 2.

Microsoft most likely won't make their own but simply support Windows Mixed Reality (WMR). MS was actively involved in developing the recently released HP Reverb G2 VR headset.
