The Last Of Us Part Two is the best selling Playstation Exclusive of 2020

always chasing the next thrill
Not shocked even remotely.

My favorite argument was this whole "iT dOn'T gOt dA lEgZ dOe", yet got really quiet when this happened.

We are to believe that Sony is mad at the following.

1. Best selling Playstation Exclusive of 2020.
2. Fastest selling Playstation game in history.
3. Most awarded game in history both by publicans and fans.

Like the first, you'll probably continue to see this selling as PS5 gets more sales, you'll see more units sold when the remaster comes out, you'll see more units sold when the inevitable The Last Of Us 1 remake is made by Bluepoint in the Last Of Us 2 engine, you'll see sales continue when the HBO show comes out, when The Last Of Us 3 is announced, releases etc

So....the game won't just magically stop selling cause some are triggered. Would be like saying Call Of Duty won't sell cause someone sad and mad about something (as if they represent 25 million people).

some are going to need this.

I was laughing so hard when I found out about this, it has like different levels and shit. I never understand why folks make really hard absolutions on shit they don't like, like Fortnite 2, Minecraft 2 or Call Of Duty XYZ won't sell cause I don't like em or something. Be like "ok, but thats only because the initial sales of pre-orders off da hype" (keeps selling), "ok, but it won't win no awards" (sweepts awards) "ok, but the fans wil"- (wins majority awards by fans), "ok, but Ghost probably (outsells Ghost Of Tsushima) ....

Epic Games left Gears of War because each sequel cost significantly more to make, and the sales of each game remained relatively consistent.

Sony knew these facts years ago too.

It's obviously a success, the question is how much, because that game looks expensive as ****.
What are you taking about? Epic was going to release Gears of Wars on Playstation. Microsoft pp their pants, and Epic cashed in at the height of the franchise. Epic put all that cash into making Fornite into pubg.

Not as good as Days Gone, GoW and Tsushima, but still a solid romp. Had my fun with it, good encounter design. Fuck the pandering, but yeah, its something we're going to see much more.
Days Gone. LoL. If a game doesnt have any LGTBQ people, isnt that pandering to you? Imgine in the incoming cyberpunk future. There‘s be a white herosexual hero im a game, and people will complain .. ”why are they pandering to this minority“

That's mostly incorrect. Epic very explicitly wanted out of the AAA business because there was a ceiling on those titles and budgets continued to rise.

They split off into 4 (or 5) AA dev teams, one of them produced Fortnite, and now they're worth 20 billion.

Again, I'm sure TLoU2 was profitable but if development+marketing made it so they needed to sell 4 million units to go into the black, it may not be the homerun the stans think.

Well deserved. Glad ND did what they did. TLOU didn't need a sequel.

So TLOU2 flipped the script and told a completely different kind of story. But one that was equally as impactful.

In addition to making the gameplay substantially better than the first in all aspects.

The only bad thing about the game are the delusional haters, who are just as rabid and insufferable as their sjw counterparts.

I dunno. A lot of people tuned in for the next adventures of Joel and his cute adopted daughter.

I'm not sure if they're going to tune in for a corpse and a fingerless orphan.
Lol as long as the game is good the audience will be there. It might not be the same people that bought Part II but it'll do millions

Really?
cuz it kinda fell off all charts and I haven't heard much on numbers after that, what are the numbers? Must be unreported sales 😏
Must be more then 8mill if Ghost of Tsushima is right behind it.

Still haven't returned to it, kinda a zoned out of it and lost interest, shame as I got the deluxe version too.

Do you have anything else to add ?
Maybe your own personal opinion?

My bad new account from 2021. Probably one of the toxic hateful miserable people that were banned not too long ago for posting in TLOU2 threads :messenger_blowing_kiss:
Sorry my disliking of a popular entertainment product made you mad

No need to apologize. Just be careful next time when you think it is wise to quote and respond with "Lol" .
It might make people think you are just a newly created account for trolling and not adding anything substantial.

Nobody thought this game would bomb though. Based on the strength of the incredible first game, it was always going to sell well. The third game's sales will be telling now that they went balls deep into wokeness.

People have been bringing up TLOU 2 sales every week and calling it a bomb ever since the game released.

You often have YouTubers spreading this information. They just started following video game sales ever since the Last of Us Part II released so its easy to see that most of them don't even know what they're talking about.

Are they talking about the sales after the first couple of weeks or so? It's true that the numbers went down, but it's pretty common for single player games. Happened to CP2077 too, although game's journalists only brought it up when it happened to Cyberpunk. I wonder why? :pie_thinking:

Only brought it up when it happened to Cyberpunk?

Both sales were reported. Cyberpunk 2077 only received more attention because it was pulled from PSN and stores were accepting refunds after CD Projekt's statement.

Cyberpunk's drop in sales were reported specifically to bash them and call it a bomb, despite the numbers not reflecting that.

Congratulations to Naughty Dog. The sales and awards are well deserved. The game is an emotional and gripping journey, as well as an amazing achievement in interactive art.
This to the moon and back. The complaints about the game are so petty and pathetic. Ok you didn’t like certain story beats, you personally didn’t enjoy the gameplay. All good! Criticize the game and move on. But how can you not see the amazing effort put into the presentation, engine, performances, animations, and at the very least the attempt to tell a story that isn’t typical game fluff? And then not just that, but devote such horrific effort into shitting on the game. The game succeeded by every metric you can measure a games success by.

Well it didn’t just not bomb, it was massively critically acclaimed and had extremely strong legs.
And ima say this as nicely as I can humanly say it, anyone that seriously things the last of us 3 developed by naughty dog is going to do significantly worse or even approach bombing is a fucking moron and is so bad at admitting they may have been wrong that it’s comical.

Lets see your sources.

No.

I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Asshole.

The most notable change is probably Cyberpunk 2077, which has now left the top 10. It's not unusual for new games to have an initial sales spike before dropping off, but because of the quiet retail period, it's down from eighth to 15th place. Similarly, Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales goes from sixth to 11th. Some games did see an increase in sales week-on-week, though. Just Dance 2021 is up two places in fifth, while Grand Theft Auto V is back at number nine.

Cyberpunk 2077 physical sales continue to drop in the United Kingdom charts following its rocky release last month. The game took first place in the United Kingdom sales charts at release before slipping into third place just before the Christmas holidays. With the start of the new year though, Cyberpunk 2077 fell straight out of the top ten. This is not unusual since new releases tend to drop in sales after seeing a spike at release. That being said, a continued downward spiral can be attributed to how the game disappointed fans worldwide with its slew of issues.

According to the official top ten list by GamesIndustry.Biz, FIFA 21’s physical sales climbed by 8%, while CD Projekt Red’s heavily divisive Cyberpunk 2077 dropped down into number eight, experiencing a 57% decline in sales. However, it's worth noting this only accounted for physical sales, and overall sales were indeed promising in the launch week.

Cyberpunk 2077 sales dropped 80 per cent in sales this week, which means the game is no at No.3. This was somewhat expected after all launch issues and poor technical performance on the last-gen consoles.

That being said, the drop is not that major since other heavy-hitters like The Last of Us Part II and Valhalla also dropped by 80 per cent and 70 per cent respectively in their second week. Here's the full list of best selling games in the UK for the week ending on December 19, 2020:

Cyberpunk 2077 has obviously faced many problems since its release due to the poor performance of the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game. However, this dip in sales is pretty normal for a major release, as a similar thing happened with Assassin’s Creed Valhalla when it first launched.

That's not the way it was reported. They pointed out that drop in sales was expected. A few alluded to the fact that it could be due to launch issues. Don't see all these journalist reporting it was a bomb soon after.

Just a simple Google search of "cyberpunk sales drop" brought up a few negative reports from the usual suspects (Kotaku, Bloomberg etc).

I'm not surprised it's selling well. The game play and productions were great, the story though i have issues with and I don't care about the woke stuff. I bought tlou2 because I loved the first one, I won't be buying the third one unless they move to all new characters or another story involving Joel and ellie.

Never played it. Along with GoW(2018) and Spider-Dan. Enjoyed Gravity Rush and Siren Blood Curse by Sony though.

Read the articles. They're centered around refunds and how it will become a factor going forward. Yes, you're going to get negative reports based on this alone. So they were not saying how the game bombed after a 80% drop, they were talking about refunds and getting pulled from the PSN and Microsoft accepting all refunds for Cyberpunk.

It did? It was still in US PlayStation Store charts over the holidays and it was just back in the top 5 in the UK the other week. Heck the game isn't even in stock on Amazon right now. It's really funny that the haters act like no one bought this game after that first week. Imagine living in that fantasy land.

So tell me how has Cyberpunk been doing? Because the game just came out in December and yet it's been gone from sales charts since after that first month. A game as hyped as that on 3 platforms and people have largely stopped buying it already. Compared to something like TLOU2 that was in NPD charts for several months after launch, was still in the top PlayStation charts over the holidays, was in the UK top 5 just the other week, ended 2020 as one of the top ten selling games, and is STILL in the top 10 for top selling games over the past 12 months ahead of games like Ghost of Tsushima and Miles Morales (which has been in the top 4 in the NPD for 4 months straight)

Pretty damn good actually. Over 13M sold, and multiplayer, numerous expansions have yet to be released.
