I just realized that the PS5 is the fastest selling white console with a 5 in it's name, someone should make a thread about this new information lol
The fact that the Switch beat it in units sold AND revenue this month is really pathetic.

Sony are actually losing money for every PS5 sold plus all PS5 games bombed making it worse for Sony, that's why Sony are whoring their exclusives to PC players recently.

I didn’t mean profits, I just mean money as in sales

It means they not selling as many consoles due to supply issues still restricted so they spinning it by saying taking more money than befor

LOL.
This is from NPD, there's nothing to spin, it's not a Sony PR. Sony hasn't announced anything.
Unit sales in the US are basically tied with PS4 and worldwide Sony is making at least as many PS5s as PS4s.
The difference is that at this point PS5 is in such high demand that there is no end in sight for the shortages while PS4 at this point in 2014 already started to be available.
So Sony has a console with higher demand than the previous market leading console, at 100$ more.
So much for spinning :messenger_tears_of_joy:

People getting upset at this? Will be a long generation. PS3 launched at a higher price, so this data isn’t useless.

Just like when we talk about Q’ revenue, it will also matter how much $ it is, regardless of units or subscribers.

where did I mention Sony was spinning it, I meant people on here.

the PS5 has sold less than the PS4 at this point even one of the biggest Sony fans on here is saying the same. Less consoles sold so far.

that’s why Sony ain’t shouting about consoles just yet

You were replying to a person asking what ''dollar sales'' means and you said that it's a way to spin the fact that in unit sales are behind.
It seemed to me that you thought that this was a Sony PR and it obviously isn't.

About units, the only official numbers we have so far are the worldwide shipments for the October-December quarter and they're the same as PS4: 4.5 millions.
And relatively to the US market if you follow the NPD sales threads on other message boards you'd know that actual PS5 and PS4 unit sales were basically tied as of the end of January (PS5 is behind by a measly <100k difference).
Overall the reality is that with Sony manufacturing at least the same amount of PS5s as PS4s, demand is so high that it's impossible to predict the end of shortages, something that didn't happen with PS4 in the same time frame (March-April 2014).
So again basically PS5 demand > PS4 demand at 500$ (for the main SKU) vs 399$.
There is nothing to spin about the PS5 success. It's absolutely obvious.

If they werent sold out worldwide they would be making alot more money and selling alot more units.

They are sold out in the UK, Europe, USA and Japan.... haters can take that any way they want lol

the spin on it is the money figure and the thread title of this thread. There you go

yes the PS5 is in high demand , I am still waiting to get one again point to where I said it isn’t in high demand?

you are reading a lot into what I said that isn’t there

what does "for dollar sales" means?

Means that it is still behind Ps4 by units (so far but that should change really fast once Stock hits) BUT it is above in $$ revenue because Ps5 sells at a higher avg price then Ps4.

400$ to 475$ more or less.

For the 4 months since it's release, $-wise.

Yes and the sales wise they talking about February? 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

money wise yes 4 months I read that, don’t forget that this console is more expensive than the PS4 by £100 so using it as a metric is a bit off when trying to compare unit numbers.

What? This is ONE OF the most important metric for major businesses, alongside with profit margins.

You need some College Degree or some huge self-learning about finances and economy.

Ps5 metrics are insane so far, Sony just needs to send more stock to break all records sooner rather than later.
The thing is that if you sell 500$ consoles, of course you are gonna have huge in dollar sales (imagine Switch priced that way). PS4 for example was 400$ only. Unit sales are more interesting, but considering the limited stock they are also useless for now. Guess within a year or two it will be more interesting.

I don't like the way NPD does it, prefer numbers, I miss the old way :messenger_crying:

NPD reports revenue not units, Sony reports units & revenue but they tend to focus hugely in units on their financials for Hardware and even Software.

But this is NPD NOT Sony.

money is for the company’s to know. Sales units is what the fanboys talk about. I never heard one person mention how much money the PS4 sales were but I could roughly tell you the amount of units sold

But there is no spin at all, NPD announced this through Matt Piscatella and IGN simply made an article using the same facts.
Thread title also mentions that it's dollar sales, we can't even say it's misleading.

You are the one trolling talking about PS4 sales in a PS5 sales thread.

Sony doesn´t report Ps5 or Ps4 sales separetely so we don´t know.

What we know, is that Miles Morales is gonna break 20M on Ps5 alone, if you want to talk about a "single game" i´ll let that one do the talking.

  • Hardware:
    • PS5 : 4.5m units sold-in
      • Biggest console launch in video game history, matching PS4's 4.5m units
    • PS4 : 1.4m units sold-in (LTD: 114.9m)
  • Software:
    • PS4/PS5 : 103.7m games sold-in
      • including 18.4m Sony-published games
        • 17.7% of total PS5 games sold this Q3
      • PS4/PS5 Software digital ratio : 53%
  • PlayStation Store had its biggest Revenue everduring Q3 with more than $4.14B (+41.9% YoY)
    • including Digital Software & Add-on content
  • PlayStation Software & Services saw their biggest Revenue ever during Q3 with more than $5.54B (+34.0% YoY)
    • including Physical / Digital Software & Add-on content / Services
  • 114m MAU (monthly active users)
    • 114m active users each spent about $113.89 on average on PS Store in 2020
      • It includes Digital Software + Add-on but no Services revenue
      • That average spending grew +26.3% YoY
      • Biggest yearly average spending per active user ever recorded on PS Store
  • FY2020 Updated Forecast :
    • $25.53B Revenue & $3.30B Profit... it would be:
      • Biggest Revenue for PlayStation (and for any platform holder) in video game history
      • Best Operating Profit ever for PlayStation

No but it’s spinning it in the fact ps5 sales are behind PS4 sales currantly and that the ps5 is more expensive. Yes the demand is there and if the stock was there it would outsell the ps4

Miles Morales will sell 20M on PS5 lol now you are really trolling

How about Spiderman being among the best selling games of 2021 in the US?
A PS4 game.

You have that in common then, since you talked about the Switch sales in a PS5 sales thread.
The Switch was mentioned to beat the PS5 in the same report that have this spin that the PS5 is faster lol
