Microsoft is finally clarifying the situation regarding future Bethesda games

18 million gamepass subs as of January. Conservatively at $5/month average, that is about $90M/month, which equates to about $1.1B/year. If Gamepass were to hit 25 million subs next year, they'd conservatively be taking in about 1.5B/year. Then you add in the individual game sales, and it's really not a stretch to think they could fully recoup this investment in under 5 years at these subscriber numbers.

Whats far more likely is that these sub numbers explode with exclusivity, and they have a recoupmeny path in less than 3 years.

But that money is going to be distributed right back out to the game publishers. Microsoft isn't making very much money on Game Pass according to Aaron Greenberg.

People do realize that all those game devs and publishers on game pass expect to get paid. Right?

Kinda sucks, but it was definitely expected. At least everything will still be on PC as well.
That's the best thing about it, it means new franchises will continue to be day and date on PC. Existing or 'legacy' franchises might be on Playstation anyway, but the only ones that interest me are Wolfenstein and Dishonoured.

You are aware that the money it brings in isn't automatically profit.

Microsoft has just assumed the development and marketing costs of a number of studios.

How much do you think is being ploughed into development of Starfield or Elder Scrolls for example? 😁

"The only thing" they have coming out - so Returnal, Ratchet & Clank, Kena and Horizon dont exist??
Kena ain't first party.

Kena is coming to PC at some - like every Xbox game...
At some...? You missing a word, if its supposed to be 'point' .

It's the same day as the ps4/PS5 version, August 24th.

Just being a stickler, you guys seem to be riled up about something and I cant be bothered to find out why.

I think you meant to say 'you're missing' while we're being sticklers.

And I'm referring to Playstation exclusives because he said there was nothing coming which was clearly wrong.

And I'm not sure what that last sentence is about, seems like you threw that in for no reason. Plus I have a PC so if Halo for example ends up being any good, I'll buy it day one and play on 120hz ultrawide....

There advantage is also to keep the game for yourself and get people onto your eco system

And if it doesn't perform to expectation you can claw some back with a cheap port 6months to 2 years later when its value as a sales driver for the platform has dwindled to nil.

As if clarification was needed. The only people that needed clarification were those high on the plastic of their preferred console. It's just common sense, if MS just wanted to invest 7 billion dollars without affecting where games are released, they could've just bought TESLA shares :messenger_grinning_sweat:

What i wonder is if the games will have 2 release date... For example gamepass exclusivity for a month and the release the version to buy them.

This is the saltiest I've ever seen this place.

At the end of the day, competition is going to bring out the best in these companies.

This generation is going to be one to remember.

When Sony was completely dominant their fans had super thin skin. With them falling back a step it's a living nightmare for these sad 30 Y.O.s

What happened to the we don't believe in making games exclusive lord Phil used to spout. Lmao can't believe people fell for that.

Perfect opportunity for a new IP from another publisher to steal fallout or elder scrolls thunder by launching multiplatform. A bit like how destiny stole halos thunder.

I don't why so many broke Xbox gamers can't believe a PS5 owner would have a gaming PC aswell.

Do you want to post a picture of it?

Another fanboy trying to dig into personal attacks since he cant have a discussion like an adult 🤣🤣🤣.

That's why that fanboy poll had Sony fanboys win by a landslide.

Investment recoupment napkin math is what I am doing. Really not a stretch to envision near full recoupment in 5 years.

Cheers for that, I should have used "you're" but genuinely wasn't 100% sure what word was missing.

Secondly Andodalf was referring to first party line up and then you responded with a games that isn't first party. Personally think the sony first party line up is okay, not as good as Sony made out to be in the launch event (kinda thought they knew a couple of games were going to be delayed)

Regarding my last sentence, I was referring to the 'weird' quotes and prompt replies between Concern, yourself and a number of other members in the last hour. Personally think this topic has run its course in terms of interesting or useful comments until the next set of conferences in E3.

This guy explains it pretty well

I said it awhile ago. This discussion is officially dead. We're just seeing the denial phase and coping right now.

That's why we're even seeing "list wars" now

This is a revenue-based recoupment exercise. Profitability is a significant lagging indicator with subscription-based revenue investment. Why the dots are so difficult to connect when we have multiple similar models currently in market (Netflix, Disney+, etc) is bewildering to me. There is HUGE investment required to build a sustainable PaaS, and we will continue to see Xbox invest into this because unlike individual game sales, this is recurring revenue. This will become immensely profitable for MS over time IF they continue to build a must-have platform.

When I get my new card, if I decide to buy any of the non-buggy Bethesda games I'll be playing them with higher performance than you anyway 😂. GamePass is a no because a lot of them don't interest me, and I only have a finite amount of time for gaming.

Too many bitter Xboys on this thread like you. I think because they you've had little to no decent exclusives for so long, they're treating this deal as the second coming. Truth is, we need to see how Microsoft copes with these new studios, and hope they don't damage some of these franchises as they have with Gears and Halo.

EDIT: I even have an Xbox controller, so that should make you guys feel good about yourselves right?

Yap get a Series X and GP. that's the cue for all you delusionals.

or try to bug jimbo to allow GPU xcloud on ps5.

Yep. They'll probably be able to access Game Pass via the web browser when MS makes XCloud available thru the web.

Problem is Sony probably knows this. Which explains why technically there is no browser on the PS5. You can access the web thru some link following shortcuts but that's it.

Nah, the reason is cause the browser is typically how they get hacked.

Game Pass Ultimate gives you access to not only the console and PC versions, but also xCloud. This is uncle Phil's master plan for what to do with all that MS cash: Netflix of Games, baby. It's the best deal in gaming, bar none. Especially with the recently added EA Play and Bethesda games.

It’s quite easy actually. You just send a URL via a ps message from, d.g the phone and the site opens. You can even pin it while gaming.

Maybe you can chew on my response to him and reply with more of your poor sentence structure?

not gonna happen, you don’t see any Sony game that’s not sold as well as it should going over to Xbox.

At least I didn't call you a broke bitch 😁.

And I definitely wasn't trying to impress you, just pointing that you can hallelujah all you like about this Bethesda deal, I have the freedom to play what I want anyway. Makes no difference to me. And a lot of people don't care about many of these games. Keep that in mind while you go around acting bolshy about a figgin' corporate deal, and reacting with LOLs to anyone who doesn't share your contorted world view.

What Are You Doing Reaction GIF

I was replying to a post that was saying Game Pass would deliver $1 billion dollar annual profits as of this year.

As do I. I can build a pc as well. But the best part is I really don't care about this deal. Only games I've played from Zenimax were the first Wolfenstein and both EW. But watching the crow be served after all the trolling you guys did over this deal, has been quite a spectacle lol.

gamepass profit and revenue isn't so clearly the success metric of gamepass when it can lead to increases to other revenue and revenue related in other ways like increased mtx or game sales.

yeah of coarse there is always going to be game sales but the post I was responding to was about gamepass, I said maybe 1 billion turnover maybe this year

I think a billion in turnover seems possible based off the current subscription numbers.

Has anyone on the internet estimated the number of xbox all access plans there are? I wonder what that does for companies like npd.

Sony still is completely dominant. They've only ever lost 1 console race to Nintendo and have never lost to Microsoft.

Access plans?

if you look at the numbers they posting on user base for gamepass then this year unless there is a drip it will most certainly hit a billion
