[VG TECH] Mortal Shell PS5 vs Xbox Series S/X

If you could read (it's literally in the post you're quoting), you'd realize that this is only for a split second after loading the game. The game has the same texture quality in all versions.

Not sure how you managed it, but you've quoted, tagged and responded to me here, except, I didn't write that at all, Loxus did.

Thought I was going mad for a split second.

Xbox: better resolution, same frame, same quality texture but less faster.
Xbox wins again.

Its obviously more slower, I mean, you gotta see that. Right?

It's the same res as on Pro and X1X...

Another BC patch... And Series S has shit framerate. Should have locked it to lower resolution.

This is not BC patch, this is native game for next gen. I can download both version PS4 and PS5. In fact, the game on PS5 is 4.7GB and 7.7GB on PS4, so probably they are supporting new textures compression.

It is a PS4 Pro and Xbox One X game packed as native... the only change is the framrate (due the stronger hardware) and high quality textures.

You can tell that just looking at the resolution limitation in both... it is the same resolution used in PS4 Pro and Xbox One X.

Even so Dev claimed they will change the game to fixed 1800p on PS5... they could put a bit of work on Series X and increase the DRS to 2160p.

They did?

Agree brother. After playing Demon's souls remake, i can't find any game which has lighting as dynamic as Demon's Souls. I'm a Souls fan, but gonna wait out for this on PS plus, i have a feeling this game gonna end up at Ps plus. :lollipop_beaming_smiling:
The game has baked lighting system. Demon Souls just has dynamic light sources like particles, FX (i.e. sparks) and dynamic shadow-casting light for torches. Nothing out of the ordinary for the typical game today. There are several games that have this kind of system.

Yes.
They said one of the changes was going from 1440p on PS4 Pro to 1800p on PS5.
One weak ago they said this. Something clearly went wrong as the game is still 1440p.

It is and that's ok because it rivals it's visuals.
You are making a fool of yourself. Please stop. Demon's souls is the best looking next-gen game. It's not only about what tech they use. it's about how the whole thing is done using dynamic lighting and shadows (everything cast a shadow in this game) and how many polygons you can use in one frame. What Demon's souls is doing (impressive assets density + fully dynamic lighting / shadows) has not being done before on such a big scale.

You have a right to your opinion as I have a right to mine. Please don't try to resort to insults.

I know what DS is doing and I know how graphics engines work. What you see in DS has been done before. That's just a fact. I don't feel like going into details and derail the thread as I've endlessly talked about graphics tech on these boards. If people would just put their bias aside for just a moment, they would concur.

if series X is dropping to 1440p and even so have drops on frames, increase the resolution on both would be a mistake. I want stable 60fps over resolution.

EDIT: I looked you said, and according the developer is 1800p from day one, so developers are lying or VGTech resolution analysis is not correct.

Didn't hit Ctrl + S. Rookie mistake.

On a serious note, I think they ran out of time (and couldn't/didn't want to deal with the optimization headaches that come with it). So they used the same resolution settings as the previous gen consoles and changed the frame rate settings.

Yeap there is something off with what devs said and what VGTech tested.

Series X is using the variate Xbox One X resolution.
PS5 is using the native PS4 Pro resoltuon.

Neither is using native 1800p resolution like the Dev claimed.
He was talking about the XSX in that quote. Not the PS5 even though he mentioned the PS5 in the sense that they are upscaled and not true 4k resolution like the PC version.

Just to confirm, this is sitting at the levels below:

Base res for PS4 on 4k is 2560×1440, upscaled to 4k (3840×2160)

Base res for PS5 is 3200×1800, upscaled to 4k (3840×2160)

There’s a big improvement here, especially paired with the new textures and framerate – let me know if you feel the difference. +

I wonder if they are looking at the Series S version too?

Originally they said it would be capped at 30 FPS in favor of higher resolution, but it looks like they have it uncapped (framerate in 40s) with random dynamic res. I wonder if this is intended, or if they need to cap the framerate to 30+raise resolution or lower the resolution and go for 60?

You follow Ethomaz on Twitter? That's really cute.

Lol ethomaz has basically done for PS5 what DF has done many times for XSX contacting devs to make them notice about bugs:messenger_grinning_sweat:

So PS5 version should be 1800p? Fixed? Dynamic like XSX?
Btw what happened here is pretty telling of how much polished and how much effort went into these "native" ports....they're probably changing some settings using BC as a base and that's it.

Maybe they tested and the game was running ok on that res. They maybe though VGTech, DF etc wouldn’t test this game, but happened. The thing is probably they will lock the resolution to 1800p but the game I’m sure will be more unstable. If XSX is dropping frames even with dynamic res, when they lock the resolution the framerate will suffer

They claimed not once that the game was running in 1800p on PS5... so it was obvious weird to see it running in 1440p.

A lot of cross gen games are handled like that. And very often, devs don't even adequately tweak the settings.

Why is that cringe? lol.

"Huge resolution boost on XSX, almost identicle framerate -" (Insert anotherone.gif)"

That might of been an early celebration on your part lol.
I'm not fanboying to bloody developers on Twitter over it though am i. And i own the game on PC, i dont really care whats better on console, i was just winding people up hense the annoying 'another one' gif.

I mean, he did sorta have a point though right? If they said 1800P it was a legit question. Although I expect to see some proof that he actually bought the game lol. I was gonna pick it up some point, but it's encouraging to see the dev team respond to his question though. That gif is hilarious though.

I'm sick of seeing that gif to be honest, and both sides are posting it now lol.
It was obvious that something was wrong with the PS5 version as the devs already said it was 1800p on both. Just having some fun. :messenger_smiling_with_eyes:
