Denuvo joins PlayStation®5 (Xbox too, children) Tools and Middleware program to offer Anti-Cheat technology to game developers

Is this Sony basically outsourcing their Console Security? At first glance this would make "sense" for their ports to PC, but on the console itself?!??!

Either way, I am not a fan of Denovu or any other of these "anti-cheat/piracy" systems. They punish legitimate buyers with bloatware and pretty invasive software hooks.

I don't mind an anti cheat protection showing up on consoles. Cheating usually shows up at some point in the console lifespan. I doubt that any devs on PS5 will bother using their antipiracy tools considering the resource use and the likelyhood that piracy won't be a thing on PS5 for at least a little while.

Aren’t there like no hacks on ps4? Doesn’t it take away from graphics and cpu processing? So does this mean ps5 is hacked? Well like consoles are supposed to not get cracked if ever so.... and it’s not a big issue compared to pc.

Theres just Cronusmax and titan one which allow keyboard/mouse and anti-recoil scripts, from the sounds of it this won't affect those devices

now we know how the dev will use this ryzen cpu this gen

seriously it's so sad denuvo is coming to consoles, i thought closed ecosystem was supposed to prevent that...
Closed ecosystem doesn't really prevent things like save game hacking. The closed ecosystem just makes it more difficult to run unsigned things alongside it like aimbots.

does this mean I can't play Demon Souls on an emulator? damn
That's actually quite a good question. I wonder what will mean for future emulation, once this gen is over.

Also, well this require you to be online even for single player games?

Jim is screwing everything, isn't he.

Is hacking a thing on consoles now?

Totally is, even if less prominent than on PC

Is there any console game that uses this shit yet, if not lets hope it stays that way. Shits poison on pc.

Thing is that a better anticheat is needed, on Pc and on Consoles, honestly if it works I'd use it. It goes against all my beliefe, but cheaters are one of the thing that trigger me the most.

You buy the game and you are still treated as the dirty theif we think you are.

Sadly, that makes sense, but also you should blame the thieves. You won't like it if someone is using your work that you spent years to complete for free and lose tones of money. So let's not treat the devs as some kinda villains.

Lag switch are the best things for a cheater cause you don't need to install anything, if DENUVO manages to catch them I'll gladly use it.

Kinda bothers me when people conflate the biz side with the Developers so easly on divising topics...

Gives me flashbacks for when Sega was quite happy to throw Taxman's team under the bus when faced with the blow back from Denuno's inclusion on Sonic Mania PC version. Decision the devs had no say whatsoever.

I'm curious if this will work on cross-platform play so if I'm playing Warzone on Playstation will it detect a player on PC who is cheating and boot that guy from the game?

Honest question is there an issue with cheating on consoles?
When I was playing Modern Warfare multi, you actually have the option of turning off cross play to only play against other players using the same hardware you are. I turned it on because I was getting keyboard and mouse players popping in against the controller people and it was absolutely brutal every time. Were they on PC using aim bots in addition to their keyboard and mouse? Maybe. You just feel like meat for their killstreaks, so it's easier to play on console against console people.

Every few weeks there are still thousands of bans to WarZone and FortNite players across PS4 and Xbox One. Players who are using controller aim bots. Snipe you in the left eye from across the map aim bots.

If they can release Denuvo to auto ban aim bot people, in a perfect world it would be a leveling of the play field and really attractive to players. In a perfect world.

How those controller aimbots even works, when they do not get any information about the game?

Well, maybe you know better than me about this matter.

Surely anti cheat tech like Denuvo is better suited on the game servers themselves? Player input and telemetry could then be monitored in real time requiring no performance hit at the console level.

I never understood how devs can't figure out cheating just by going by leaderboard stats.

The old CODs on console with rampant cheating had 1000s of people with messed up w/l and kd records. If a guy has won 100 matches in a row with a KD of 50 pretty sure he's cheating or boosting.

Just flagging suspicious stats for verification should already be enough to get most cheaters.

There’s cheating on consoles? I was sure that’s a PC thing.

Cheating on console is a bit more complex and has the added downside of potentially getting your particular console banned from its respective service. Still exists, though. Doesn't even come close to how rampant it is on PC where there are literally no potential repercussions for some games.

My favorite anti-cheat is where a game flags and maintains a record of cheaters and then queues all of them together.

lol at the thread title change.

Once I saw Red_Driver85 Red_Driver85 post it became an oh well. As long as it doesnt interfere with games, cause performance issues I dont really care.

Oh for fuck's sake.

Is this Denuvo garbage also on Xbox, btw?
I think it's supported, although there is no need for it on Xbox since most of their games don't use Win32 libraries and use a modified version of UWP inside virtual machines. For Denuvo to work on Xbox, it would have to run at system level (along the hypervisor) so it can monitor the games' virtual machines.

Maybe this shit will only run if you're playing online..? Being a single player focused gamer, I'd be okay with having dodged that bullet.

EDIT:

Denuvo’s Anti-Cheat incorporates advanced technology to secure both online gameplay as well as securely reward offline progress

Rats' cocks.

On console, the only cheating that takes place comes in two main varieties.

There's people who use something like the ChronusMax, which allows them to play against controller players using mouse and keyboard. You can also run a few mods on them such as rapid or burst fire. Semi to full auto. Stuff like that.

The other flavor are those who figure out a way to break the game itself using bugs and glitches. GTA Online is the poster child for this.

There's a couple of other methods that theoretically work on console, but they tend to be either incredibly unstable, or simply don't work at all. Due to everything on consoles being set in stone, cheats that involve intercepts, makes for a frustrating experience. Like several crashes to dashboard per match frustrating. As such, they're almost nonexistent.

However, if crossplay has shown us anything, it proved that the vast amount of primarily pc players have been continually lying through their teeth for years. Anyone who's wandered into a discussion about console vs pc has routinely seen the same scenario play out time and time again.
Console player argues that he prefers consoles, due to not having to deal with the cheats and hacks that pc players do.
Before console player can finish his sentence, the pc player cuts him off, and is in full eye roll mode. Claiming something along the lines of "There's almost no cheater or hackers on pc. In the last 10 years I've come across maybe 2 or 3 at MOST."

The cheating in Warzone ebbs and flows depending on what point in a season it is, and how aggressive Activision decides to fight against it. But one thing is abundantly clear. Cheating is rampant as hell on pc. All those people downplaying it over the years should have one of their thumbs removed as punishment.

PS3 and 360 were the last truly modded consoles. Neither the Xbox One nor the PS4 were cracked. They did get close on the PS4 though.

You can theoretically use a man-in-the-middle approach to cheat on a non-cracked console. This was a thing awhile back, don't know if anybody goes to that much effort today.

You should be on latest firmware to connect to PSN, so it doesn't matter.
I know, that's why I said no to the question, but the answer is still yes. People can cheat in games and they can play with cheats online through XLink Kai. Cheating is not a problem on PSN, but it's only a matter of time until someone makes a spoofer good enough to trick the system.

Uuumm yeah. From modded consoles themselves to 3rd party controllers that give you 0 recoil on weapons etc... Plenty of cheating going on, not as crazy as PC but there is definitely cheating.
The ps4 and xbox one haven't been hacked for online play. Denuvo can't detect something like him, fortnite tried and gave up. I'm not sure wth this is for, it seems pointless.

Wow, thats news to me. Been on PS4 for years???

Also...lmao at some of the reactions now.
Kind of like console wars.

Looks like no gamers even knew it was already in existing consoles.

Without someone telling them what to think, they are happy with what they got. Give them a nugget of info and people go ape shit.

The ps4 was able to be modified last gen and as a result it affects ps5..most common one is gtav modded lobbies and there are some cod lobbies I got thrown into which rank you to max straight away

I can’t recall any sort of hacking on Xbox however.
