Sorry PS5, Xbox Series X Has Unexpectedly Become My Preferred Console

If you want to buy an entirely new system to play an old game be my guest.

If you want to misrepresent what I said to fullfil your agenda, that's on you.

My point still stands: right now next gen has almost no next gen games and therefore what becomes more important to me and to a lot of people is retrocompatibility, which is an aspect in which the Xbox Series X is clearly better than the PS5. Especially if you add the wonderful gamepass.

Nobody said I was buying the Xbox Series X just to play old games, but just like with the PS5, we are waiting for the good next gen games to come. And meanwhile, retrocompatibility makes the Xbox Series X more attractive than the PS5 right now to a lot of people that don't care that much about Morales DLC or Demon's Souls remake.

Try to undersell Demon Souls as an old game with an updated graphic and nothing more, isn't it drastically different to argue Halo series as the same old FPS from 20 years.
Is different man, but i do not consider this new Demon's Souls an old game.

I mean it's 20 years Xbox release Halo. Fucking 20 years. I need to ask: what exactly is innovative or new in his gameplay formula at every sequel released? Outside graphical update. 🙏Please tell us.

for all purposes demon souls remake is an old game with new coat of paint, it is same mechanics, same story, same characters, same enemies, same progression, same weapons etc. Do you see the pattern? New instalments of halo (but usually new instalments of any series) usually have new character’s, new enemies, new story, new/upgraded weapons etc. along with upgraded graphics..

Since both consoles have no exclusives, Xbox might be a better choice for some people. Gamepass is magic.
Game Pass is great but I would not call it magic. I have been renting new releases for years from Gamefly. It even allows selecting from other consoles. Game Pass has the advantage in that you can have more then 2 games at any given time. Fantastic but not magical.

Not to mention, its missing the archstone dlc too. But who cares? He'll just ramble on some other incoherent rant.

Honestly PC has substituted an Xbox for me. You can play all the Xbox exclusives, game pass, as well as Emulation and Japanese games that Xbox never sees. Atleast with PS5 there’s a lot of exclusives that you can’t play on Xbox or PC. With the switch your starting to be able to play the exclusives with good performance with yuzu emulation. Also with Xenia and Rpcs3 emulation they cover ground to play a good chunk of games from the 360 era of gaming. If you have a decent PC I don’t see why a Xbox Series X serves purpose.

Correction, the S is weaker than all consoles. The PS5 digital shouldnt be compared power wise to the S at all.
I was comparing it more for the not-so-different price tag (I know $100 makes a big difference to some, but they are relatively in the same ballpark). You can get a digital PS5 (power-wise, the same as the normal PS5) for a comparable price tag to the S.

Nice that Gears 5 carried over and looks great on Series X. I played it like two years ago when it came out and don’t have time to revisit it. Why? Because I had actual Playstation exclusives to play...

... Goes back to playing Demon's Souls...

I can’t believe this is an actual Kotaku article. Lol slow news so are they mining salt for console war clicks? Pathetic.

Demon's Souls is a very good exclusive. By the way, it's always a matter of taste and opinions. I'm also waiting for the best exclusices to come, and I hope Microsoft will deliver this Gen, as I have no doubts about Sony.

GamePass is cool, but not everything. MS must deliver new IPs and more AAA exclusive games. And I will be the first in line to buy a XSX if this happens. I already have XBox One X and GamePass, and I'm not gona buy XSX for BC, for sure.

While what you say is technically true, demons soul is a remake of a cult classic, it got the respect it deserves.

But using halo as a reference for how it would be better if we have had a truly new game kind of make the point that sometimes rehashing an old favorite is better than a true 'new entry', halo has been in decline for over 10 years now.... Given what we have seen of infinite there is no reason to think this will change in the near future .

Since I'm working from home now I always remember to get my MS Reward points done so Gamepass is effectively free atm as I always have my PC on and can just run a script to get the daily points. I always have enough every month to pay for Gamepass with points left over. I do whatever easy points there are on Xbox rewards but never go out of my way.

I think Gamepass is great for me personally as I've stopped buying so many impulse games knowing I have plenty to play already. I've tried tons of games that I would have been 50/50 on as reviews nowadays are pretty shit and never really cover anything in enough detail so it's hard to tell if you will like something without a demo. As much as it feels good to find some hidden gem it's also nice to play something for 30 min and realise you hate it just saved yourself some money.

It's definitely extreme value for money currently and more so if you have a PC too as I was able to play stuff like Crusader Kings 3, Gears Tactics, Wasteland 3 and Desperados 3 at or near release - all games I would have bought anyhow on PC.

I don't know what my limit will be in terms of cost if/when they do away with buying it for Reward points or stop places like CD Keys selling 12 month keys for cheap but we'll see.

What tosh comparing it to qanon. Paid articles are a thing, as are paid posters. Wasn't there a number of confirmed bans right here from MS workers at the launch of xbox one?
Show me a "I'm switching from xbox to Playstation" news article if these type of articles are so organic.

People call these out because there is a history of them. There is a history of MS aligned or paid journalists/personalities like Tom Warren, Brad Sams, Major Nelson, Colt Eastwood, Timdog. MS take their PR and PR spin to a new level and sometimes that comes and bites them in the ass with lack of trust whether the article is sincere or not.

Last gen there were a ton of articles stating xbox one bad and ps4 is better at launch (and I agreed with every one of them). Search yourself.

People only 'call this out' because its a pro xbox article. Every day there is a pro Ps5 article posted on here.... So why arnt they claimed to be paid for advertising? It just looks like confirmation bias to me.

When we get an article about how good the PS5s controller tech is every few days....which is admittedly one of the consoles best features..... we don't hear "oh must be paid advertising. When we hear about xbox best feature (gamepass) it's "oh paid for advertising"

I hate to agree with a Kotaku article headline, didn't bother to read the rest but having both consoles I'm definitely gravitating towards Series X more even though I"d consider myself a PS fan.

I like the Series X UI much better, I like achievements better (even though it's missing platinum style trophy), Game Pass always has something to play, and since I've ignored Xbox for pretty much an entire generation I have a ton of backlogged shit to try out.

Classics such as “Do not look too much in early sales (favouring PS4)”, “Gamers did not let MS explain how good always online would have been”, “who can tell the difference between 1080p and 900p anyways”, or the pre launch classic pieces dismissing PS3’s comeback and predicting doom and gloom for PS4 as evidenced by the “Xbox One, PS4, etc... predictions” thread before that generation started ;).

Their first-party lineup isn't that diverse genre-wise (first-person shooter, third-person shooter, racing - simulation-esque, and arcade). They need to show something;
You forget about RPG games (first person, third person, izometric ones), turn based and real time strategies, 2d and 3d platformers, brawlers, flight simulator, survival games, narrative adventure games, dungeon crawlers and probably many more.

I don`t think there`s anything funnier on this forum than seeing Sony fans losing their shit when someone dares say they prefer the Xbox. Oh hang on, yes there is, its when the same Sony fans then go on and on and on and on and on about how it doesn`t bother them really, honest. They`re just in this thread to make sure everyone knows how little it bothers them...and that other thread, and the the one the other day...
Woe betide if your one of those that prefer Xbox and think that Zelda BOTW is one of the best games ever...then you are really going to be heading for a forum kicking.

Show me one article titled like that at the xbox one launch from a news outlet when switching to PS4 was something a lot of people were actually even doing. I couldn't find any media articles from my search. An article titled "I'm switching from 360 to PS4" or "I'm switching xbox one to PS4" or something similar. What media journalist existed that were so pro PlayStation akin to Tom Warren or Brad Sams or Major Nelson. Sony don't put that much into media coverage that's why. Their execs aren't all over twitter, they don't do a lot of interviews, they don't send out to influencers, paid news pieces or much at all.

The reason this is being called out is that the title is clearly clickbait or possible paid PR that often doesn't happen but is recurring for MS. Nobody would bat an eye if an article said "I really love the XSX" or "I really love gamepass here's why". Of course that would not get much attention though. People don't hate positive news but people react or are suspicious when you have somebody using titles like that to either rile up fanboys with clickbait (and therefore shouldn't be surprised when they react accordingly) or using it to get people to read some PR piece that would otherwise get no attention. The reason you have this reaction here is because of the way it's presented and the way MS are so invested in their paid media coverage. If the title wasn't created to promote console wars or if MS wasn't as heavily invested in advertising like that you wouldn't have any reaction here because nobody cares if somebody is enjoying their xbox or whether they even switched. It's the fact that there is an article about somebody switching sides in a "console war" some have in their mentality.

This is bullshit and last cycle was used as an excuse to mass-ban people who bought a Xbox One. Let’s not go down that road again.
Why quote me completely out of context then call bullshit? I'm only trying to state the reason why skepticism exists on articles like this. That if any other company so invested in PR and similar clickbait articles were created you would get the same reaction

Why would neogaf want to mass ban people who bought xbox One ? Don't see how that is any less of an accusation based on nothing but scepticism than somebody calling this article PR.

There is nothing out on the ps5 at the moment. everyone is playing BC games and I guess XSX does it better.

Sony shouldve had ratchet ready for March. Horizon by May or June. this is gonna be a long year.
At least they have something, what has xbox got? Old games lol

This is true but not everyone wants to hassle with PC gaming. Console gamers are console gamers for a reason. Steam is great but it still isn't as "plug and play" as a console. That and the fact that you can't get a compact PC tower that is as powerful as the XSX for anywhere near the same price. That's why I'm waiting to upgrade. I'll upgrade my PC late this year or early next year to double dip on Elden Ring and to play the awesome mods that will come for it down the road but I'm ok with the extra steps that PC gaming plus mods entails.
