The irony is that if Sony put Control UE and Soulstorm on Now I might've subbed. I was planning to buy these anyway. But Now gets the rather old stuff. I would also sub to Now if PS3 games were at least downloadables and upscaled.

No offence but you would not want to play elderscrolls on gamepass the costs of playing a game you can play for years on end with new content being made by the fan base would be too high subscribing monthly .. it would be good to try it out see if you like it for newcomers though then buy the pc version from steam for a one off price .

PS+ at least debuted two of the biggest indie breakout hits of the last gen with Rocket Arena and Fall Guys day#1, its a good service.
The collection bundled in on PS5 is a pretty direct counter to GamePass.

The argument itself is actually pretty easy to pick apart considering the fact that unlike Xbox Live, gamepass is not the first games subscription service. Both PS Now and EA Access predate it. But instead of discussing, you'd rather go crying to mummy and daddy? Makes sense.

I've watched PS5 played live, looked at all the games and cannot see 1 single game that has 40% boost over current gen games.
Returnal for 70? That price tag kills that game and we all know it. Deathloop for 70? A game that clearly was arbitrarily bumped to ps5 when it could easily be a ps4 game.

Anytime I see an xbox praise threads, the thread turns nasty pretty quickly from a particular subset of gamers. When it's a PS praise thread... Everyone applauds and pats eachother on the back.

It's depressing and makes me not want to even come on here. And I agree.... I've been temp banned for calling these fanboys out.
Whats worse is I've had every single playstation console right up until the PS4. I then commented late last year in gonna buy a XSX console first as gamepass sounds really good and then a load of PS fans jumped onto me saying I'm a fake account and no one would seriously switch. So I must be trying to build momentum for the console...... . I legit sh*t you not.
I v rarely see this kind of fanboyism coming from xbox but when I do I call it out. I hate console wars but the moderators need to sort this crap out because its on every xbox thread.

Don't worry yourself about it too much. OP is getting shit on for getting three years of game pass for less than 2 PS5 games. It's impossible to deal with that sort of delusion.
The saddest thing is that as much as you want to ignore these dumb fanboys burning money (and its advised you do), they are having a tangible affect on the market by declaring with their wallets that 70 per game (regardless of content or quality), plus dlc, plus mtx, plus day one preorders; it really fucks it for the rest of us with a couple brain cells.

Anecdotally, I know of family members who has opted to buying an Xbox and subscribing to Gamepass for their self, kids, spouse, whatever. It’s alot of options and cheaper than dropping a large sum upfront.

Gaf has been very Pro Sony forever. Only Trolls deny this. Xbox threads get flamed and a cabal of people mass report anyone who mentions anything bad about sony, even when sony does things that suck. Prices going up sucks for consumers even if it has to happen, and other companies not raising prices means it clearly doesn't have to quite yet.

Games weren't £50 last gen at all, they've been £60 for some time. Retailers don't always sell at the full RRP but hell, if you wanted a decent copy of FIFA with add-ons is was £99.99 at launch!

You're kidding yourself if you don't think this sort of thing isn't happening on both sides. Is it happening more often to Xbox fans? Sure. But what do you expect when the number Xbox fans are the smallest of the big three.
I don't buy that price increases 'clearly' didn't have to happen quite yet. Budgets are all over the place, there are companies that could probably afford to keep prices at $20 forever. Doing something like this at the start of a generation makes more sense than increasing prices at some random point in the generation. It may actually increase the chances that businesses take risks or deliver bigger experiences knowing that they have some additional revenue to plan on.

Total addressable market for netflix is over an order of magnitude larger than it is for console+PC games. Right now it's 18million subscribers on Gamepass (many of whom are using those $1 for 3 monhs trials like me) versus 203 million on Netflix.
It's not hard to calculate how unsustainable Gamepass currently is.
Microsoft just bought Zenimax/Bethesda for $7.5B.
At the same time they now have to pay the salaries, hardware and software license renewals, rents, etc. for all the 2300 employees working on those studios. And then on Microsoft's own studios there are another ~450 people working at 343 Industries, 200 on Coalition, 200 on Obsidian, 120 on Ninja Theory, 200 on Rare, 100 on Forza's Turn 10, 200 on Playground and around 300 distributed by their smaller studios like Double Fine.
So head count on Microsoft's XBox Games Studios totals around 4000 employees.
At an average of ~125K/year per employee (and I'm probably being super generous here), Microsoft now has around ~$500M / year of expenditure. Plus the money they need to spend on marketing all the games that are made, which in movies usually amounts to 50% of production costs but let's be generous and assume it's only 33%, so total expenditure on all of Microsoft's game development is ~$750M/year.
On the 18M subscriptions of Gamepass at $120/year, that renders them $2.1B/year. Take away the $750M/year they need to spend on 1st-party games and they get $1.35B/year.
If all that Gamepass had to offer were 1st party exclusives (that they "offer" on day one so few people actually buy those games), then they would go without making money on Gamepass for over 5 years.
But Gamepass doesn't just offer 1st party games. So now we need to subtract all the money they spend on the 3rd party exclusives which are actually the bulk of the 200 games that are included on the service (over 160 from what I see). Some games have to be expensive to keep on Gamepass, like ARK, Control, Outer Worlds, No Man's Sky, etc.
How much to we think each of these games are costing Microsoft every year to "offer" on the Gamepass subscription? Average $0.5 / year per Gamepass client (more if it's a AAA, less for Indies I imagine)? So $9M per title on 160 titles, that alone is $1.4B/year.
So on their current price scheme, Gamepass is making $2.1B/year on subscriptions. Take away $750M/year on 1st parties and $1.4B /year on Gamepass 3rd parties, and the service is losing $100M / year. And this is right after they invested $7.5B in Zenimax, are probably subsidizing every 9th gen console being sold and had to pay hundreds of millions on their R&D.
There's just no way Gamepass is sustainable, and increasing the number of subscribers will most probably increase the money they need to spend on including 3rd party games in the service. The only way for Gamepass to become a sustainable business is if they tier the offerings and charge a lot more money for the premium titles than they do now.

Now I can't help but cringe a bit when I see it. Imagine being desperate as to pretend a decade old game remake is some sort of banging exclusive.
It wouldn't be nearly so bad if things weren't looking progressively worse for PS5 owners over the next year. While the XBS released with no current gen exclusives, it didn't pretend to, but all indications still point to Flight Simulator and Halo Infinite releasing this year.
That's quite different from the PS5. While it also released with no current gen exclusives, rather than admitting shortcomings... Sony instead chose to use smoke and mirrors to hide them. First they pretended that Demons Souls didn't release on the PS3 a decade ago, and simply claimed a remake as an entirely new game... Exclusive to the the PS5. While Astros Playroom is obviously a tech demo for the dualsense controller, they attempted to push it as though it were an actual game. It was likely at this point that the higher ups at Playstation looked at one another and said "Ya know, this might just work". Better to be safe than sorry though. So just to be sure, they apparently decided to pull the expansion for their last gen exclusive Spiderman, in order to put it exclusively on the PS5. The only available reason being so that they could now charge double the price for it.
Had I bought a PS5, I'd feel burned having bought into all that. By the looks of it, things only get worse for the next year, as game after game gets pushed further and further into the future. We're almost at the point where PS5 owners will be lucky to get anything even the coming holiday season, much less anything before.
.Ultimately it's a slow start, but you have Returnal, Ratchet and Clank and Horizon out this year, aswell as Deathloop coming soon. Frankly Halo may end up being terrible looking at the series trajectory, and 343i's body of work.
