Halo Infinite - New 4K Screenshots

Let them have their moment. Come Winter Halo Infinite will soon shut them up

Exclusives will always rile up the 'opposition'. When Infinite is released, you can be damn sure there will be nitpicking all over the internet to find that one texture that could've been improved a bit.

But then again - every Sony exclusive is the target of the same nitpicking.. so. Ignore the most rabid fans and enjoy the games!

What did you expect? Halo Infinite is a game most fans will spend much more time on than the haters on all of their beloved cinematic 3rd person action adventures together. Of course they have to hate the game even though it's month away from release.
This. The insecurity is palpable. Cinematic third person games are so 2007. Just like Naughty Dog's game design.

I think for Halo its been on another level. I don't think those new shots are a 'gamechanger' moment for the gfx. It's the gameplay that's been shown off so far that makes want this game so bad.
It looked pure old school HALO, even down to the music kicking in just the right parts

You are absolutely right. Halo is no 30fps game were you slowly walk + talk and watch the beatiful landscape. It's 100% gameplay action focused and for this graphics are more than enough.

That's no excusing the graphics mind, they should at least have been some ray-tracing effects, something saying this is Next Gen.
These new shots while looking a lot better, don't scream to me only Series X/PC can do this. It was the gameplay and how good the firefights looked that makes want this game so bad

No.

The engine preference has nothing to do with the environment sky lighting equation. Most of these engines are deferred because they need many light sources (tiny) and rely heavily on the depth buffer for screen-space calculations. Considering this is shown on a PC, I'd expect much better lighting than this. If Cyberpunk can implement proper ambient occlusion despite it using RT, then 343 can implement it too. There are way too many papers out there with the information on how to implement good environment lighting to not do it properly. Add DLSS into the mix to get your frametimes and you got your 60FPS easily on even mid-tier GPUs. The XSX is another story, but we are being shown PC images.
Is this something that's an easy remedy, with around 8 months development time left?

Ok but the brutal pop-in has to go, come on it takes away even from the gameplay. We haven't seen that in a Halo game probably ever, certainly not in Halo 5 so we expect at least the same graphical standards on a new console.
It doesn't have to be native 4k, almost no game is nowadays. If it can have Demon soul's like graphics I will be more than satisfied because then its gameplay will carry it to great heights like so many other Halo games I have renjoyed.

Look way better now, so excited to play it

It's crazy that the weather changes everything 😲

That is exactly where they should start the gameplay video at E3 (or the E3 alternative), looking at that scenery.

Been a while since the Craig demo... but these look like a downgrade. The trees look super low tri count as does much of the environment. Has an almost cartoonish look to it now.

Guessing they have lowered things (or have an aggressive LOD) to keep a solid draw distance and frame rate. Unless it was an art direction choice.

Looks like an improvement but nothing mind blowing. Perhaps in motion it will look better with 120fps implementation. I have never played a game 120fps. I am guessing

PC-Xbox Series X: 4k at 120fps
Xbox Series S: 1440p at 120fps
Xbone X: 4k at 60fps
Xbone: 1080p at 60fps

4K at 120fps? Xbox one 1080p at 60fps? Behave yourself! 😂 Do yourself a favour and stop guessing.

👍

I assumed we were talking about the campaign, where these screenshots are obviously from?

It’s a safe bet that these won’t be 120fps, nor a native 4K.

As of right now, we know game is 4K60, but once Ray Tracing is introduced it might drop down or use dynamic scaling.

I think so. But who knows what their priorities are. Many games have this "added" skylighting on the surface shader without much ambient occlusion to make it not look flat. I really have no idea what could be going on under the hood.

I wouldn't call in brutal, but I guess its one of the parts being improved. Demon Soul isn't quite an open world game and I bet if someone took a shot of the human-AI at a particular moment, their facial expressions will hardly be the most detailed.
Just as long as we don't get another HALO 2 or Halo 5 single player disappointed (but with brilliant multiplayer). I'll be happy

Looks better, hope to see a video to really see if there are improvements to pop on, lod, and vegetation. Hope to feel the world is alive like ghost of tsushima.
If they can create enough of a lore and backstory in that open world that gives reason and meaning to the regular open word tropes like GoT did, I can see myself playing a LOT with such a title.

Damn the trolling in this thread is OOC. Which is it guys:

1. It doesn't look much better
2. It looks worse
3. Somebody colored in the trees
4. I only play at 5000x magnification
5. Non-open world non-FPS game looks better than this
6. This game in development doesn't look finished
7. I have a I <heart> Sony tattoo and can't afford to have it removed so I'll just make up some shit about Halo Infinite instead

I think the criticism of its appearance is valid. It's not a bad looking game, it's just "ok". The Far Cry series, imo, look much better than this. Like FC5. That's an example of an open world FPS that is better looking (at max graphics) than Halo Infinite in my opinion.

I'm not saying FC5 is/will be the better game, that it's as ambitious as Infinite, or anything like that. Categorically I don't, and I personally find FC5 to be mediocre at best as a game. I have higher expectations of Infinite.

Graphically infinite is a tough sell on the "Next Gen graphics" front. But that's not completely unexpected since it's cross gen and has to support 5 different platforms: PC, XBO, XOX, XSS, XSX. I just don't think people should pretend it's breathtaking or great looking when it really isn't.

That said for any game, but Halo especially, it's all about the gameplay and features. That's really the only end criteria I'd judge Infinite by.

Feels weird to see people point out art style and call it bad graphics, at least regarding draw distance; the aliasing is what it is. Infinite is going for a painterly art style, so things further out are gonna look well... painted.

Thanks, may I ask how much improvement from the last showing do you think has been made?

#4 was sarcasm making fun of the trolling lol

I know, but it was accurate in that unless you play the game like that why would you care about microscopic details. The sarcasm was in effect a great summary of the troll position so I used it.

Yeah, it was really hard to find something about Infinite to bitch about.

120fps confirmation is specifically multiplayer, the campaign will likely be 60fps across the board (possibly 30fps on Xbox one s)

In resetera they will hallucinate with the images, in real life it looks just like a ps4 game. I expected a lot more graphically from the new generation.

Looking at the day and night cycle and weather effects. I prefer the game to look like this rather to look “next gen” and be static.
Yep I think they're really pushing a dynamic simulation game and not baked in assets like so many games use to look good. I'm curious now and the standard in screenshot is well worth playing this game.

What I don't want to see is this not used in game to full effect e.g. imagine time and weather systems being entirely dynamic as you revisit areas or other things happen or the order if play etc. There is a world of gameplay Halo could go for e.g. entire mini ecosystems being altered on the fly or built on command by sentinels while you play. Imagine having to take a stronghold and choosing to outright attack in broad daylight or wait for the stealth cover and less enemy forces of night time cover.

These are innovations I want from the trade offs of just investing is graphics systems. Give me simulation and a free sandbox with real gameplay interactions or benefits.

I could not give two shits about tomb raider corridor puzzles or god of war linear graphics etc.

Reminder: Halo 4. :messenger_grinning_sweat: You guys have zero standards.

I was deadass reading and thinking, “yea I guess it doesn’t look so bad, maybe my standards were too high for what the game should have looked like”

but that screen shot reminded me of my time with halo 4 and yea... this almost looks like a downgrade... 2 generations later. I’ll say the gun model in infinite looks more detailed.

Was this post meant to imply that open world games have now exceeded the fidelity of a top of the line 360 gen game and at 4k 60fps?

Because I'm not sure that that's in any way an insult.
Why do y’all keep parroting open world? Like I’m sure it’ll be open and shit, but this isn’t like... gtav where it’s a densely packed open world with tons of ai. It’s going to be, from all the footage we’ve seen, vast nothingness with no crazy enemy amounts or anything that would stress the hardware it’s running on. It may, at best, be typical halo 5 levels except instead of transitions it’ll just be long roads to travel with occasional enemies along the way.
Anyway, better looking 60fps 4K games?
AC Valhalla? Ghosts of Tsushima? Both Spider-Man games on ps5 blow halo infinite away hard at 60fps even with some upscaling of the resolution.
