Anybody Peacing Out This Gen?

Skipping this gen?

So I’ve noticed some recent posts about CRTs and people generally complaining about the current state of gaming. Is anyone skipping this gen? Personally I’m digging through my backlog of retro games. I’m mostly interested the in backward compatibility of the new consoles. I have zero interest in next gen titles.

I bought a sex doll, but I keep it inflated 100% of the time and use it like a regular wife
Dunno. I built a new PC but that will be mostly for games I haven't played in the past, like Nioh 2, Death Stranding or all the Yakuza games.

There are some cool games coming soon, like MH: Rise or Nier Replicant, but aside from those there is not a lot to look forward to in the near future right now, at least for my tastes.

Skipping a whole gen tho? Don't think so, things are just getting started and I'm sure the PS5 will have more value in a few years when more exclusive titles are out.

Last-gen was just the same. Remember, Dragon Age: Inquisition won GOTY because there wasn't anything else.

Nah. People who think there aren't enough good games to play releasing annually aren't looking very hard, or they're just far too picky.

I understand if people have backlogs to plough through and want to just save up current releases for more future backlog, but there's no need to peace out because of a lack of games.

No reason to skip/peace out. This generation is still in its infancy. There are going to be plenty of amazing games during this generation's run. Even if it feels a bit barren at the moment.

Nope. I bought a Series X and will realistically be looking for a PS5 (although I’m not busting my ass to get one). I do have a few backlog titles, not counting Game Pass, but I will play those as I play some of my new stuff.
On a side note: Even though I do have a bit of a backlog, I started playing stuff I haven’t played in years. I started GTA IV last week and I’m about halfway through it, even though I finished it multiple times more than a decade ago.

Not exactly skipping a generation, but after 2 decades of primarily console gaming I've decided to stick with PC and use Steamlink/GeForce Now to play games on my TV through my Nvidia Shield. At some point the temptation to buy a PS5 might be too great, but for the time being I have no desire to shell out for a next gen console.

Still not available here, so i got a nice PC.
Best choice since the PS2

Maybe i will buy a PS5 and XSX in a year or so.
The last generations i was always a day one multi console gamer.

Because of the scalpers and the "huge" demand i didn't get one. And not really sad about it atm.

No shiny exclusives on the horizon.

it's too early to say i will skip it but this is the first generation that i haven't got a console at launch.

PS1 - got at launch
PS2 - got at launch
PS3 - got at launch
PS4 - got at launch
PS5 - lol i'll wait until the Slim revision before deciding if it's worth buying yet.

i have a PC so can play games still. might get a switch. but not really interested in PS5 or Series X.

Last-gen was just the same. Remember, Dragon Age: Inquisition won GOTY because there wasn't anything else.

Even in a weak year like 2014, there's still Bayonetta 2, Dark Souls 2, Divinity OS, Shovel Knight, Isaac Rebirth, Titanfall, Hearthstone, Mario Kart 8, a port of which is still one of the best selling games annually, and more. Forget which website gave what award to what game, there's always a slate of good games released each year, some years are just better than others.

Agree man. Not a lot of games that year but for sure anything for any kind of taste.

Uh, hell no. Why would anyone do that unless they just can't afford to financially?

And who would choose "only for BC"? You'll go spend $500 on a current-gen console, but refuse to play any games that come out in the next seven years, "just because"?

The industry looks incredibly exciting over the next 5 years. It feels like we're transitioning to another (more advanced) phase.

I wouldn't have said that 7 years ago, or 14 years ago.

For me the golden era of this medium was from 4th gen - 6th gen. After that, it's been mostly downhill, with occasional spikes in competency. I don't give a shit about how pretty graphics are. What I care about is innovation and gamer's games. Those are rare commodities these days, wherein the signal to noise ratio is outlandishly off.

Disclaimer: I'm an old fuck who's been playing video games since 1982. Can't claim immunity to nostalgia-bias.

I get you, you want games where you start playing 30 seconds after the main menu and not fucking an hour, that definitely is a problem with more narrative or "fancy" games we get today. I was playing that Outriders preview and it took like 45 minutes to even get to the point of the game.

There does seem to be a big resurgence in old style games, specifically FPSES right now, they not your jam? What genres do you like?

I got both consoles because I am an married adult w/o kids and a little disposable income. That said, I have spent most of my time since the launches playing either older games on Xbox BC (Jade Empire, Blue Dragon, Catherine Classic), my SEGA Saturn or some JRPGs that came out for the PS4.

All of these retro-inspired indies and retro gaming youtubers have reminded me how well made older games are. It’s nice to be able to appreciate older titles.

Playing a new game now feels like logging on to AOL in the 90s.

How you can you say that when we haven’t been fully bought in yet. I would say next generation hasn’t fully started yet till 2022 and 2023. You can’t make that judgment yet. Seems like you are tired of gaming and that’s okay. You should take a break and come back to it whenever you want to. But you can’t make these judgments when next generation hasn’t fully started yet.

Skipping? I'm all in.

Had a PS5 from early pre orders, gave it away as a gift. Got a XSX a month ago, just got another PS5 last night.

I'm set. Now I need some TV's. I just moved and playing everything on my PC monitor for now.

Only things that are coming that I'm interested in are the new Battlefield and Forza game. I'm fed up with broken games, the jank and the current directions AAA games are heading in.
Indie games is where it's at for me. This is where the innovation and creativity takes place and it's currently hidden a lot of different genres, and my 2012 office PC can still run all of those.

SO I'm seriously considering just peacing out this gen and enjoy my 500+ game collection from NES to Xbox One.

Next gen games just don’t seem appealing to me. They don’t have the same intimacy and authorial mark games of previous generations had. So why not go through the backlog and wait for something interesting to pop up?

It’s like saying “ I’m SO excited for the next Drake single, who would want to listen to 2Pac?”

Skipping in what sense, the games themselves? No.
I moved to PC last gen, so in that sense I skipped a generation just gone, but I didn't give up on new games for 7 years. There were just less I cared to buy.

In no hurry to dive into next gen but probably will when we get a PS5 slim model and we have a a large library of great games
The PS5 is so huge and stupid looking now I refuse to get one until we get a more compact model in different colors, yeah I’m petty like that.

Having missed out on the ps4 gen, my hopes are to get a PS5 to go through those, and when PS5 game prices go down, pick up a few of those. Money is tight so it's nice to save on that whenever possible.

definitely not, right now ps5 and xboxsex are pretty pointless for me, but games will slowly be released that make them worth it (right now edf 6 and callisto protocall are the ones that have my interest the most) , though I'll probably put off longer than previous gens despite having more money, (unless one of them goes all xbox one x and I can get one for like half price 6 months out from launch, then I'm there)
I have a pro and xbox one x so cross gen seem fine for the time being, as long as Resident evil 8 is fine, I'm find with current gen,
I might buy xbox first this time because I have like three years of game pass ultimate left that I paid next to nothing for,
but earth defense force 6 is currently the deciding factor for me, if ps5 exclusive ps5 it is first, if it's multiplat or cross gen (as long as cross-gen doesn't run like garbage) xbox sex it is.

Just to be clear, I'm not a gaming Luddite. The most recent console I own is a PS4. The most recent games I bought for it were Ace Combat 7, Subnautica, and Metal Max Xeno. As far as genres go, I'll play just about anything insofar as it's good. But my top favorites are JRPGs and action-adventures. I used to play FPS games voraciously when I was in my late teens and early twenties. I'm talking the years of say 1993-2003. Played loads of them during that time frame. It's still a genre I enjoy, but the youthful angst that drove my impetus for that genre is now long gone.

Too soon to make such a judgement, so far we have seen basically nothing of PS5, no games or what it can be squeezed out of it.

all I want from this generation is VR 2.0 bringing VR mode to most games

if that's not the case, I'm just retiring from gaming for good

PC and Switch give me all I like to play。No attention to generation but rather the games I like playing。People should play more and argue less as undue anger fogs the mind and is poison for the soul。

Didn't think you were at all, I've been gaming since 1992-ish and I also feel the pain of changing priorities in game development. Some of them have gameplay I love wrapped up in a whole bunch of other crap I'm not interested in or the polar opposite, which is even more annoying, being really into a world, characters, art, even graphics but the actual gameplay is shit/good enough™.

Ace Combat 7 is one of the most underrated games of 2019 for me, I loved it. The music was so great, still play it to this day, in fact, time to listen right now I think.

I'm gonna participate to this gen as soon as scalpers can fuck off and die.

This gen should be exciting. Last good news were Diablo 2 resurrection imo. Let's see what's next!
