Theory on why Nintendo never released Metroid Prime Trilogy on Switch

My theory of why this never happened is simple.

They would want to release them separately for the Switch for 60 bucks each and slap a HD label on each but know that it would cause fan backlash of the highest order if they did.

However

If they combined them together into a 60 dollar HD trilogy package then it would dilute the Wii and WiiU HD remasters they keep selling separately for 60 dollars.

For instance how can you justify a potential Metroid Prime Trilogy which consists of 2 GameCube games and 1 Wii game upgraded to HD with updated controls when they plan on releasing Skyward Sword in HD... 1 Wii game on its own.

The Metroid Prime Trilogy was the last great deal Nintendo gave us and I'd say they're kicking themselves to this day that they did it.

I think a Prime Trilogy will never come out for the Switch , at least not in the form that we think it will.

I should also note that in all intends and purposes rumours heavily believed that the game WAS seen completed and it's been done for some time.

Why didn't it happen especially during the slow precious year.

I get what you're saying but they literally put out the 3D mario collection a few months back. The Skyward Sword announcement stinks of greed I agree but theyve proven a few times in the past they will wise up and put the odd collection out there.
1 N64 game, 1 GameCube game and 1 Wii game though. I know it sounds like I'm being petty but

Even in that collection they left out Mario Galaxy 2 for probably similar reasons. Would be too much.

The "All Stars" compilation that consisted of barely improved emulated titles? It's still a rip off.

I never said anything about the quality of the collections I just said that they have done them quite recently.

My point is that since the quality of the games in a Metroid Prime Trilogy collection would be much higher than the ones included in the All Stars bundle, then that's a good reason why they wouldn't do it.

Nintendo doesn't handle their own franchises with Premium gloves. They are more like Disney, taking something out of the vault and letting you try it. It's why I'm buying fewer of their first part stuff, and why I'm typically waiting a few months/years before finally buying their games. The good ones prove their quality over time, but I mean... who is glad they bought 1-2-Switch?

I like when games get the M2 treatment or the Bluepoint treatment. Those companies know how to handle old games with respect.

Metroid Prime Trilogy is already on the market for the Wii console. My theory is that MPT for the Switch doesn't even exist.

-----------------

Metroid Anniversary will be overshadowed by Zelda like it always is. Don't get your hopes up.

In Nintendo's eyes a Skyward Sword port to Switch was more important then a Metroid Prime Port to Switch.

* hasn’t. Not never. They just haven’t yet.
I’d guess they want to release it closer to MP4. But what do I know.

I'm sure they're going to have some sort of limited window digital release at some point. If there's a chance to rip off their fans, you can bet they'll take it.

I said it in the TP HD and WW HD thread. Only solution is to listen to your heart and invest in a WiiU. It's the only sensible thing to do when you think about it. The WiiU Gamepad is a thing of absolute beauty and feels like heaven in your hands. Snag MP Trilogy off the eShop for $19.99 (plus tax), dust off the ole Wiimote and play that puppy on the gamepad. The family can enjoy the TV in the living room, hell, they can gather 'round and watch you play it on the gamepad. Best investment you'll make.

My theory is they are just trying to imitate the old Disney Vault method.

Honestly a bigger question to me is why Havnt we seen more studios formed on the concept of creating remakes/remasters? Seems like a lot of money there, and the IP’s, stories and audiences are already built in.

They'll release it when Prime 4 is close to release to build up hype.

100% guaranteed way to maximise sales and bring in new fans.
Was going to say the same thing. They already have the marketing plan. They just decided to sit on it until it’s time.

though I’m fairly sure MP4 is going to be on new hardware.

Nintendo tries to carefully control how much they give you in a very measured way the same way an abusive partner carefully doles out affection to keep you always wanting more.

I'm over it. I don't appreciate how they treat the customers that made them rich. It's just way way over the top, too much for me to stomach. They hold their IPs over our heads like they know we will deal with anything to get to them, well I won't anymore.

Didn't even buy the Mario 3D collection with the tepid improvements and limited release window. I have no faith in them anymore, and feel relieved to have stopped hoping and caring lol.

Nah. It's Bill Gates. He pays Nintendo 100 mil. /month for them not to release it because if they did, people would be too busy playing it and not worrying about covid and thinking about and waiting for the vaccine. And then they wouldn't get it early with that Gates manufactured 5g chip in it.

This is the guy that leaked the mario collection on the switch, so shut your piehole:

People are willing to buy the games. The hype for any news, a trailer, anything, for Metroid, BotW 2 would he insane. Zelda Anniversary, Metroid Anniversary, show something.

That's not even going into their really ignored lPs like Golden Sun/Advance Wars/Battalion Wars/F-Zero/Mother.

So many amazing IPs sitting in a vault, rotting away.

Yet Nintendo can only say-

By 'fan backlash' you mean sychphants comparing each title to other $70 full price games and will proudly pay for them despite being 720p no frame rate change remasters?

I wouldn't be surprise that after the super mario compilation was released Nintendo realized they can get away with much less and scrapped the trilogy being released in one package.

Because why not pull out your Wii U and a Wii remote and nunchuck controller? It’ll be a sad day when Nintendo shuts down the Wii U eShop. There are a lot of very good VC games on there. I sometimes think back on how I have Zelda Ocarina of Time and Sin & Punishment on my Wii’s VC. I’ve owned both the Wii and Wii U VC port. An actual Switch port would definitely make the Switch that much better. Otherwise you’re playing Super Metroid with a Nintendo Online subscription. Reminds me of playing Super Punch Out on an SNES in a hotel room back in the 90’s.

To clarify the shop version is the same 480p Wii game even in WiiU correct?

Someone would need to clarify the technical details for me, but it launches like a Wii game and looks like a Wii game. :) it’s basically a Wii running on the Wii U. I found it to be as blurry as any Wii game that gets upscaled on a smart TV. My guess is yes. You can definitely see it run at that resolution when it launches the Wii operating system.

Nah, the real reason they haven't done it is because it would make a great release shortly before MP4. There isn't much of a better way to get people hyped for the new game that would be nearly guaranteed to release within a year after the Trilogy releases. People will play them, enjoy them, and then be ready for the next game.

Ive thought of this as well but I'm not sure. It's possible they had back the game due to the release of prime 4 being delayed by probably 3 years or so. I understand there's no point releasing a collection game to hype a new game and then the new game is years off.

I think don't see how a collection like this gets released as a trilogy. Nintendo are not that generous.

What I do think is that they absolutely should released this as a trilogy and they should have done it last year. Metroid as a series deserves to be held up there with Zelda and Mario and it is for fans but not sales.

They can do that for Zelda because it's Zelda. Metroid is a shadow of Zelda and Zelda is a shadow of Mario. As much as people on gaming forums love Metroid, it's a niche series that doesn't sell extraordinarily well.

The most obvious answer is that they're waiting for MP4 to be close-to-ready so they can release the trilogy and rope some new people in.

Not that generous? Mate, they literally released Mario 3D All Stars recently and that involved the effort of porting over two games that previously weren't ever ported before, one of which didn't function without motion controls (unless you count the terrible Nvidia Chinese port).

I would have liked to have the game on Switch since day 1, but Nintendo don't owe us anything. They release things when they think they are ready to release them. Demonizing them for not doing what you want just screams of entitlement.

You theory can easily be debunked

Here is what is actually happening ....

Dev B - Go play 1 and 2 on your GayCube

Yes. It's just the Wii version running through backwards compatibility.

That's probably why it was cheap.
But increasing the resolution to 1080p...now that's a complex engineering challenge that's equally or more demanding than making a new game. So the $60 price tag each is totally justified.

Yeah... Big chance that you're wrong

Zelda was a greed thing and shit , but Mario 3D was launched at U$60, and Metroid Prime Trilogy HD was already been released before, so is probably a matter of not good management - remember that Wii have tons of backwards games, but Switch basically only has NES and SNES
