What’s the weird limited time thing Nintendo will pull out of their ass today to commemorate Zelda 35th?
They’ll announce a Labo tie in with snap you’ll be able to build a camera or use the VR goggles and take pics with the joy-con, also I wouldent put it past them to release that 2D version of BOTW they used as a proof of concept when they were developing the original BOTW.

LOL the first is right up their ally with Labo. The second seems too much effort for Nintendo. I would personally love it

"Ocarina of Time/Majora's Mask HD, limited to 1 copy. Digital only."

This but it’s the version without master quest and the version of MM that had issues like frequent crashing.

Well that was garbage. The Miitopia port was the lowest point but one new game for 2021 and it's a Mario sport spinoff, I don't know if it's the pandemic but Nintendo aren't delivering.

Skyward Sword is $60? I guess I should be surprised. I've never played it so it makes it sting less.

Interested in: Mario Golf, Famicom Detective Club, Smash DLC, Age of Calamity DLC, Animal Crossing Mario Items, Project Triangle Strategy, World Ends Club, MH:Rise, Bravely Default 2, HMH3, Ghosts and Goblins, Ninja Gaiden, Splatoon 3

A ton of cool stuff.

I know a lot of people are upset, but I enjoyed the direct. Excited for the physical of Hades as I have wanted to play that and the extra goodies are nice. Never played Skyward Sword so I’ll check it out. Plus Splatoon 3 and a handful of other titles piqued my interest.

Food for thought though. They just announced an Age of Calamity Expansion Pass DLC. Almost 3 full months to the day after the base game released. Maybe Covid really did impact Japan and the shift to working from home drastically slowed down production on a lot of content.

Considering the producer of Zelda came on just to announce SS makes me think they had more planned, but fell behind due to the pandemic and just didn’t acknowledge it because Nintendo sucks at communicating with it’s user base.

Speculation on my end though.

I checked to see what japan was getting to see if there were any ones releasing that didn't come to the west. JACKPOT they only went and made a crayon shin chan boku no natsuyasumi game, just looking at it gives off boku natsu vibes seeing as millenium kitchen no longer make these types of games this is as close as i'm gonna get. Totally looking forward to getting this one it's very me.

Crayon Shin-chan "Ora and Dr. Summer Vacation" -A Seven-Day Trip That Never Ends-

Oh and probably famicom detective club that one was a total surprise, own those 2 on famicom mini on gba but they were too hard going in japanese. This time i stand a chance of properly understanding them my japanese only gets me so far.

On its own the Direct was fine IMO. Placed into the proper context though, with this being the first real Direct in about one and a half years, it falls short. The expectations are obviously a bit different. Some of the most anticipated titles (BotW2, Metroid, Bayonetta etc.) are also either absent or releasing next year (Splatoon 3, Triangle Strategy). It's somewhat hard to stay positive at that point.

I thought the Skyward Sword port was pretty cool, but not at $60. I appreciate it when Nintendo brings over niche games like the Famicom VNs. Plenty of third party games, but again most of them are quite old and they're gonna be overpriced. Again.

5/10

My favorite anime, sad we will not see any localized shin chan games :/

ok this was a solid Direct, nothing groundbreaking or amazing but still good, even if most games aren't exactly my cup of tea

Square Enix new tactics game looks pretty interesting, as does Plants vs Zombies and Mario Tennis :p

im dissapointed because i was expecting Twilight Princess and Wind Waker coming to Switch, but i guess Nintendo wants to sell us Skyward Sword HD first and might think having too many Zelda remasters at once will get people picking their favorite and ignore the rest, i guess i will end up dusting off the old Wii U to replay those, i feel weird asking for a couple last gen ports as a fan it really sucks, business strategy i get it, who in their sane mind would pick Skyward Sword over the amazing Wind Waker and Twilight Princess? 🤭

Splatoon 3 being their last BIG reveal is confusing, when its not even coming in 2021😳 im sure its gonna sell very well and be popular, but it seems a bit early to hype that one and Switch already has a big sequel with DLC so its not that exciting, its not like there is some big epic plot to conclude, anyways, this Direct clearly shows Nintendo is having trouble with the development of some of their big titles due to Covid, but AT LEAST they are releasing information on upcoming projects now.

OK 7/10, i need the next general to drop the bombs though.

The games im looking forward most on the Switch are MIA as always, and luttle AAA content coming from Nintendo, but still overal solid lineap at least will be better than last year 🤭

(i want the hinted Metroid V, Bayonetta 3,Resident Evil Outrage and more Zelda, all games we know exist or are in development, but its frustrating waiting for Metroid and Bayonetta news :^S)

Nice. Probably getting my hopes up with something Xenoblade related but you never know.
I...guess I got what I asked for?

Fuckers even started with it.

Was really, really disappointed by Splatoon ending the direct. My mind was racing after they announced that they will not show BOTW2, hoping that the one more thing would be Xenoblade or Metroid.

This direct seemed to be Japan focused, and that makes sense considering Nintendo has always catered to their Japanese fan base first. Considering how big Monster Hunter and Splatoon are over there, this was probably a huge hit.

That said, I am mixed. On one hand there are a ton of great games headed to Switch like Outer Wilds, Fall Guys, etc - but I’ve played them elsewhere and it’s a bit late.

While a lot of sentiment is down on Skyward Sword, I’m fine paying $60 this time if it sends them the message: no more waggle gimmicks. I have a feeling they will also touch up bad things I’ve heard about the game like the excessive tutorials and hints every time you find a rupee.

It seems HD development really is a struggle for Nintendo. The development cycles of their games have been getting longer and it seems 4 to 5 years is the cycle between large games from their internal dev teams. There is no doubt the company has been broadening its focus away from just games, and i have a feeling that has a lot to do with what we are seeing play out in their release schedule and direct announcements. If we don’t hear about another mainline Mario platformer by E3 next year I don’t think there will be another on Switch. But until then I’m not too worried, even though I’d like more original content. Look at Splatoon and BotW for the release cadence - we are looking at 5 year dev cycles so that would put a mainline Mario set for holiday 2022. Splatoon would be early to mid year, and if all holds true we will get BotW 2 this holiday.

Was there anything not annouced before other than Zelda ?
Mario Golf and Miitopia wasn’t announced earlier.

I think this was just a Direct to give the fans something. There will be more games, e.g. NSO Update, Zelda anniversary (around September to give Skyward Sword time to sell) and more.

I also would think it was a Japan focused Direct, however it aired at 7 a.m. in Japan, a bit strange.

Anyway, still looking forward to get more Wii games like Wii Sports and Mario Strikkers. The Switch Pro can take time. Let them finalize the work on the back catalogue.

I got excited when i saw mario golf but then that was short lived when i realised that it's set in real world enviroments that totally turned me off. Part of the appeal for me is you got to play on fantastical courses set in the mushroom kingdom not some generic looking realworld golf course. shame really as the speed gold looks manic in multiplayer.

Yeah I'd have to agree on this one. I was really thinking that they would make a fantasy golf course like mario kart style.

If that was the intention then they bungled it pretty hard because I'm not sure who was the target audience for the lengthy showcases of shovelware like that DC heroines game or the dodgeball fortnite shit.

Just to be clear in case I've forgotten something, the only new Nintendo first party game for the first 7 months of the year (so no port or Nintendo published third party title) is Mario Golf right? That's just miserable.

Mainline Mario is usually one per console, we aren't getting another original 3D game on Switch, Mario U Deluxe serves the same purpose MK8D, so I don't think either is gonna happen anyway. It's not because HD development struggles. I'm not sure why people are under the impression we'll be getting more on Switch...

BOTW took as long as it did because they kept wanting to add more and the final delay was so they could port it to Switch and make it a launch title. HD development might've been a factor early on but there seemingly weren't any issues. BotW 2 is likely a 2022 title imo.

The Splatoon example is the most flawed. Its very unlikely they started development earlier than mid-2018 since they were doing the octo-expansion, also the first 2 games only took 2 years to make, so unless they got worse at HD development after the first 2 you can't really use that as example of them struggling with it or a 5 year trend. Its more likely the team was doing other things and only just got around to starting it recently.

Ok - old man yells at cloud moment. Hoping someone can assist.

I'm in Texas with the statewide power outage. No internet and trying to catch up on some Switch stuff.

Paper Mario - when I booted it up, it said that an update was available and I needed to download it to play - but I was completely offline (obviously). I don't have it digitally - the cartridge was in the slot. Is there really no way to play this without updating it first?
Sorry to hear that. Do you really *have* to download the update to play? In every Switch game I've played, you can start it without updating or while waiting for the update to download.

If you can't just skip past it, I don't know what to say except that that really sucks. Good luck.

They kind of treat Bowser's Fury as a new release anyways,im sure a new 3d Mario will come but im guessing not soon 🤔 unless they been making it in the style of BF

Hey, i thought those games looked pretty fun🤭 we obviously are not the target audience for this Direct, but Nintendo is proudly showing their third party support 😎, give them a break after wii U
they are popular games coming to Switch that a big part of the userbase will enjoy

Yep. It let me just skip it in every other game I tried except this one and Hades.

Splatoon 3 was originally teased for a 2020 announcement and 2021 release. I do think Covid has seriously messed up their schedule.

There's New Pokémon Snap in April and Nintendo classes Bravely Default 2 as a first party title in the West (there's also Buddy Mission Bond but not sure if that is getting localised).

Finished Super Mario Odyssey w/ 999 moons earlier. Next up will be Final Fantasy IX for the Nintendo Switch
Kirby has to be the oddest mix of wonderful music and brain dead game play I've ever encountered.

Why does this song sound like a gang of alligators sporting tuxes n shades are about to commit a murder

I agree though, Kirby games have some great music but the gameplay rarely leaves a lasting impression. Except Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards. The majority of that game was fairly memorable

^^^GOAT Kirby song

The only Kirby game i found truly fun was mass attack on DS as the mechanics are super fun. Most kirby games look nice but play very bland i love the character & the worlds, but they are a little too boring in most of the games when it comes to gameplay.

I guess I'm part of the problem but I'll probably pick Skyward Sword despite it's price. As long as they release boxed version that is. I managed to pick up most of Nintendo offering for 40-50 euros during various shop actions so it's a price I'm willing to pay for longer games like this.

On that sidenote i finally found one for Xenoblade 2 so only torna missing now :)
