When do you think PS5 and Series X/S stock will get back to normal

With the next generation now on the market, demand is high for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Perhaps too high, with the hype of a new generation combined with COVID lockdown restrictions in select areas, the demand soon outpaced the actual supply for these consoles. As such the next gen Xbox and especially the PlayStation 5 are notoriously hard to get a hold of. Every time there's new shipments at a store, they just as quickly disappear. It's not uncommon for a new console to suffer needle-in-the-haystack syndrome for the first year or so (PS2, Wii, and Nintendo Switch are other examples of this phenomenon), but it seems most gamers aren't going to be able to get into the next generation for quite a while.

With that said, when do you think stock for PS5 and Xbox Series will settle down? I'd like to think they should be readily available by Spring or Summer, but that could always change.

We're suffering from component shortages and retailers feeling it's unsafe to place them in stores. All due to the pandemic. It's anyone's guess.

It will slowly get better so expect Improvements in the stock however it's still going to be very difficult to get one. I really hate this situation to be honest.

Next year for PS5. They will become more available but still hardish to get and then the holidays will make them impossible to get again.

114 million PS4s were sold. 4.5 Million PS5s were sold last year and they are delivering well under 2 million units per month. I saw a prediction of 17 million sold by the end of this year so that means a little over 1 million per month globally. Seems reasonable considering PS4 numbers and Covid. Do you think 17 million ( 12.5 million this year) will fully satisfy demand, or will that leave millions of PS5 seekers still looking for one? Keep in mind that Sony cannot magically produce more. Even with no shortages, manufacturing capacity is carefully chosen to meet the average demand once inventory stabilizes.

I don't see demand being satisfied enough to build inventory until after next Xmas. Sure it is a guess. That does not mean some regions will not see plenty of units on the shelves from time to time, I am just saying that overall there will be shortages as Sony struggles to supply enough to each region and they will continue to go in and out of stock.

I just got an email from my retailer saying that PS5 preorders placed before 10.10. (that includes people who preordered at reveal, and those include me, yay!) should be sent out next week. Said retailer (a major player here) doesn't currently accept new preorders until the queue is cleared. At the same time, it would be possible to get a Series X/S in-store - not everywhere, but they exist. That's the situation here in .fi.

The thirst for PS5 is real.

Been trying to get one for a while. Game UK released a batch this morning and I was on there straightaway but still wasn’t quick enough to bag one. Allegedly they had 10k units.

I think it's real only inasmuch as scalpers have been wrecking the natural supply and demand curve

Not this year. Come the summer people won't have holidays abroad, events to enjoy or much to do. Gaming will be the number 1 hobby.

Add to that the fact there's already millions trying to get a ps5 and then there's a strong line up of games to come which will add a few more million to that list.

Depends on what Sony wants to do. I would be shipping every single PS5 to the NA/UK with drip feeds for the rest of the world. An empty shelf is just opening doors for the competition to establish a base. Clearly happening right now on every batch. They spent a lot of time creating the proper demand only to see the efforts more or less equalized due to supply. Consumers are ready to switch, but also need product availability, otherwise FOMO gets them to stay. A lesson for them I'm sure.

Not anytime soon.

Here in Portugal you can already find the Xbox Series consoles easily available in many retailers. But this is Sonyland. PS5 will probably take a bit more untill gets out of the "sold out" status. My guess is at around April stock should be normal for the PS5 consoles.

One of the big online stores is limiting the sale of PS5 to 1 per customer.

This is the normal for the generation. Scalpers will be buying up stock in perpetuity to keep the demand like this. Aside from something like a major developer losing a ton of money developing a ps5 exclusive this is it.
