I always thought Josh Brolin would be the perfect casting for Joel. He's an excellent actor, pretty grizzled looking, and the perfect age. If he bulks up a bit more I think he'd nail it.

He doesnt even need to bulk up, joel had a normal body, nothing about the man screamed jacked. Think Josh Brolin in Sicario, shape, size, attitude etc. Thats your joel.

I honestly doubt that people would enjoy watching a Joel look-a-like on the show. It would be like SQEX's Avengers game, where everyone looks like a B-movie version of people you know. We already saw Joel in the game acted out with detailed motion capture, and already basically watched the movie.

This guy's a good actor, and really the more they break away from the game, the better. It's going to have to be its own thing in more ways than just casting. If you liked the original, this is just an alternate version and you can watch it or not. But if you go in expecting to just rewatch what you already saw, you're going to be disappointed if its different, and disappointed even if its a carbon copy.

Honestly for a big name actor who actually looks somewhat like Joel... I'd say Christian Bale.

And that guy can fucking ACT and we all know he can get angry. He'd just need to be able to do the accent and bulk up.

No one will end up doing as good of a job as Troy Baker did tho. I wish they could just make him look like Joel and play the role himself.

It's probably more HBO than Druckman. Once studios start to work with someone, they often do it again. Similar to Sony putting Tom Holland up as Drake in the Uncharted movie, after working with him on Spider Man. HBO worked with Ali on True Detective and probably has a good relationship with him.

Ali is also going to be Blade, so they are probably investing in the show to get gamer appeal while Ali is popular with gamers and comic people - all to maximize viewer numbers.

Yup. Neil and Bruce said No Country for Old Men was a direct inspiration for the game. And Josh Brolin in that film inspired Joel to a degree. It'd work.

If you adapt a piece of work and keep the main character, changing their race is a huge issue.

A show based on TLOU world could be fronted by a black dude. No problem. No issues. Totally fine.

I mean it's the same HBO that recently made Lovecraft Country and Watchmen. I wouldn't be that surprised if David, the soldier from the intro and Fat Geralt were the only white dudes in the show.

Any of those would look fine. Some tho, might be too old for Part 1 Joel, or wrong size/build, or can't do the personality and accent. Hard to get the perfect casting.
