It it approved? No.

But the chances to not be approved is near 0... it is not like MS is purchasing the Sony Game Division or Nintendo... these cases is way more hard to be approved due the situation of the market today that allowed MS to have near 100% of the console market.

It will be approved in May 5.

I don't believe there is nothing related to Sony x Square Enix purschase... I mean where these people get these info lol

It just like FFXVI it will be on PS and PC... just like FFVIIR is PS and PC.
Basically a business Square Enix decision perhaps based in sales of previous games.
Not acquisition. Probably sort of exclusive deal between the 2 companies. SE is exactly in the same bad position of Bethesda. It flopped too many big titles lately and probably they try to minimise their rescue for the future with an agreement. I would be more surprise if something like this will not happen, first or later.

Great for these that never played it.
But I can't see anybody already played it forcing himself to play the boring walking parts again.
Sorry to all that love this, but I agree. I’m happy they’re doing a remaster for anyone who wants it but I don’t think I could put myself through it again. It’s too long for it’s gameplay and combat to stay engaging for me.

"Article 101 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU) prohibits agreements between companies which prevent, restrict or distort competition in the EU and which may affect trade between Member States (anti-competitive agreements). "

You are just conflating random laws to a situation that doesn't apply; you think nobody can make something exclusive? Buy something and make the goods exclusive to a platform? Find me one ruling where the EU indicated that when it wasn't based on a monopoly. That section is about things like price fixing, actions involving multiple companies acting together to limit markets. Buying Bethesda doesn't limit anyone's ability to sell products... that's not in any way related to this. Companies can do things including buying companies to their advantage.. that's called capitalism.

I didn't say all anti-trust laws only apply to monopolies.. we are talking about a specific scenario.. a purchase/merger.

Here's the section of TEFU that applies to what I'm talking about:

Dominating a market is not illegal.. and MS will not be dominating any markets after buying Bethesda.

Market shares are a useful first indication of the importance of each firm on the market in comparison to the others. The Commission's view is that the higher the market share, and the longer the period of time over which it is held, the more likely it is to be a preliminary indication of dominance. If a company has a market share of less than 40%, it is unlikely to be dominant.

What is an abuse?
To be in a dominant position is not in itself illegal. A dominant company is entitled to compete on the merits as any other company. However, a dominant company has a special responsibility to ensure that its conduct does not distort competition. Examples of behaviour that may amount to an abuse include: requiring that buyers purchase all units of a particular product only from the dominant company (exclusive purchasing); setting prices at a loss-making level (predation); refusing to supply input indispensable for competition in an ancillary market; charging excessive prices.

So as I said.. you have to be considered a near monopoly, or part of a duopoly to have behaviors like making something exclusive be illegal.

Otherwise.. we wouldn't have console exclusives at all lol

edit: Oh and lets not forget MS doesn't release ANYTHING exclusively lol.. they release everything on PC, and in multiple storefronts in general.

Their market cap is only $8.211B.

Sony's is now just shy of $150B.

Sony's yearly cash on hand is now almost $31B.
i think they need to stay away from these acquisitions. they are risky in that MS will just increase the price by bidding more and possibly even steal the studio.

FF is basically a sony exclusive anyway. FF14, FF7 and FF16 are basically exclusives anwyay.

I dont believe in anyway this is happening but ill play along:

IDK how these things work but wouldt alot of SE's market cap be predicated on most their sales coming from playstation anyways? Weve seen sales splits between xbox and playstation and its usually an 20/80 split or more. If there was some clause that SE could port to PC i wonder how drastically that could effect things?

That's pretty incredible. At least with the more distant shots...a lot of those looked real to me. Up close....still not QUITE there, but very close..

Maybe someone here is more of an expert? Here's my observations and questions:

With the older tech the skin looked a bit plastic and the hair wasn't quite there, but it was really the EYES that would draw my attention and scream 'fake!' They looked like cadaver eyes or something. Just dead with no life in them. The eyes are really good now and don't look like 'dead' eyes. BUT...STILL not quite there. I can't see any reason for it though. When I look at a still....they look real enough to pass as real...but in motion...no. So I'm wondering...does part of our brain register the subtle changes in pupil dilation as we look at people? So maybe it just 'feels' wrong because unconsciously I'm not processing that so it seems wrong to me overall? Really curious about this. If that is the reason or even part of it, it's also possible that just adding random dilation to the eyes wouldn't work as we probably have a sense of how that's SUPPOSED to look in people we're talking to? If anyone has any knowledge on this, please chime in.

The hair looks really good now. I think good enough to pass as real. Again, on the whole, these looked real to me a lot of the time, just not when they were zoomed directly on the faces. The skin is still just barely off...another one of those cases where I can't pin down what it is. Maybe it's just the movement of the skin due to muscles that still isn't being done perfectly?

The TEETH are the biggest thing, for me. They don't look right..again up close. From further back, it's fine. I'm not sure if it's just because they are too even and evenly spaced? Sometimes there appears to be TOO MUCH gap between teeth and it's all uniform so that definitely looks off.

The way this is going overall it looks to me that by next generation....5 to 10 years from now, this will probably be solved and these will 100% pass for real. We know that super high end CGI can already do it. Getting that on the PC/Console side will just take a bit more time. But I think we're DAMN close!

Those would be better than all the NPC's we see in gaming. It's a wonderful tech that I hope it gets utilized and refined overtime.

Yes, but it goes from 30% to around 100% (I know, not exactly 100%, but they even get money from PC sales if they ever decide to sell outside their platform, which I doubt).

I kind of Disagree with this. Theoretically MS COULD do that but usually transactions like this take years of negotiations and planning. Just because MS has the money to outbid doesnt necessarily mean the other party wants to be owned by them or even has a good relationship with them.

RDR1 is a much better, more refined story. Even gameplay is more fluid in RDR1. RDR2 gameplay is sluggish though, so they'll ruin it. The detailed story of RDR1 is fading away from me, but man that last moment killed my emotions (who played would know what I'm talking about, so not spoiling it).

Would I reply it? Can't see myself doing so.

It´s not like they were heavily pushing their (still shitty) w10 store, windows 10 exclusivity (dx12 only) or that shitty UWP down the PC throats. Forgot which game tanked and made them get their heads out of ... and start to support other stores like steam (and even win7?).

I don't get what your point is here.

I am talking about MS's current strategy; the argument that they release anything exclusive at this point in history is flawed.

Bethesda nor Microsoft, nor the combination of the 2 creates any sort of market dominance.

When MS starts encroaching on.. say the market share Lufthansa had in Germany when they wanted to buy a failing airline mattered to the EU.. and even at their 65% market share that decision was heavily criticized.

edit: Not to mention the fact that even on consoles games are still sold in stores.. all kinds of stores.. MS more often than not even allows digital purchases through stores.

Right now I'm 60/40 in favour there's truth to this leak. 👀

0/100

Buying a publicly traded company isn't some 2 year long secret process where the company being purchased starts doing favors lol

Sony might buy SQUENIX some day but it wouldn't go down like that.

Doesn't this seem strange though, a year later they reveal FF7R "Play it first on PlayStation 4"

I still think something is going on and Sony are strengthening it's friendship.

And when Sony said play it first on PlayStation 4, did they secretly mean play is second on PlayStation 5/PC.

Sounds like a lot of basic guesswork.

I mean just pause for two seconds and think of a list of things you could come up with in a RD2 remaster, a lot of would be featured on this list.

Not saying a remaster isn't happening, although I wouldn't rule it out since GTA 5 is also getting one and Rockstar look for any excuse to make money.

Dude, don’t you know only Microsoft has money? That’s why series x is getting price drop to$299 and everyone is paying full price for gamepass;)
And Live will be free!

Ignore the almost doubling of the price in the room.

I wish they made Live free and forced Sony's hand, but that is too much money on the table for both to do something so radical.
Not at all. Market Cap does not equal Market Value, meaning the sell price will be north of 10 Billion. Sony cannot afford to spend 1/3 of its cash on a single acquisition.
Cash on hand is cash on hand.

And this poster makes a good point about the splits, and negotiating net worth. When 80% of your sales are on the one platform that has the cash to buy, that is taken into consideration. Much like I would love to return to the new shaping of Bethesda and whether they block PS entirely or not when that goes through. Something tells me, they won't block out the platform that produces the most revenue. But we shall see.

I wasn’t doubting any possibility of an exclusivity deal.

And you think Sony... divesting... is evidence of them preparing to... buy? Lol

Huh, I'd take this any day over the boring disappointing snooze-fest RDR2. RDR was one of my favorite games of all time when it was released, I re-played it a couple of years ago on the Xbox One X and I'd gladly buy a remaster to play on the PS5.

I think it's aged really, really well and for me, the sequel can't compare in any way except visually. If they fix that... Oh boy. 🤩
