The Fallout Series : What are Your rankings ?

JohnnyFootball

GerAlt-Right. Ciriously.
1. Fallout 2
2. Fallout 1
3. Fallout Tactics

Everything else is irrelevant to me.
I don't consider the Skyrim-esque games to be real Fallout games.

Fallout: NV
Fallout 2
Fallout 1
Fallout 4 (don't care what anyone says, this game on survival mode with a few mods is actually excellent...if you ignore the storyline as much as possible).
Fallout 3

My list is roughly similar to this, although its a really, really close margin between the titles. I am a sucker for anything in the Fallout universe and admit that probably inflates my personal scores for them but whatever...

Fallout 2 (10)
Fallout: NV (9.9)
Fallout 1 (9.5)
Fallout 3 (9)
Fallout 4 (8.5)

Still undecided on Fallout 76, but I think I'm ready to give it a proper go. It will likely land below Fallout 4 but I've heard they have made great strides with the game.

I think Fallout 2 is the best Fallout game, but NV is the better video game, if that makes sense. It's just more playable to me, especially modded.

That said, Fallout 2 is so absurdly vicious and uncompromising that it will probably never be topped. Especially not in today's political climate. I played it for the first time in 2015, and even then I was shocked at how ruthless parts of it are.

I have not played the first two yet so I cannot count them but I could see them coming after New Vegas or maybe even before.

1. Fallout 3
2. Fallout New Vegas
3. Fallout 4

Fallout 3 is one of my favorite games of all time. I like the setting, being able to make meaningful choice, no crafting and the dark and dreary atmosphere.

1. Fallout 4 (heavily modded)
2. Fallout NV (heavily modded)
3. Fallout NV (Vanilla)
4. Fallout 3 (heavily modded)
5. Fallout 2
6. Fallout 3 (vanilla)
7. Fallout 1
8. Fallout 4 (Vanilla)
9. Fallout 76

My fallout 4 modded playthrough was basically a different game...lol.

Thinks mods influence posters politics. Promoted to QAnon Editor.
  • Fallout 3 (2008)
  • Fallout 4 (2015)
    • Fallout: New Vegas (2010) Did not finish, too buggy.

1. Fallout
2. Fallout 2
3. Fallout 3

Exists tier. Fallout 4

Something about the original's experience I've always preferred over 2, even despite the time limit. Never tried NV and since I liked 3 I really should have given it a go. Oh well.

Fallout 2 was my favourite game in the series for 20 years, until I replayed first two games last year. Now somehow, oddly, I prefer Fallout 1. Atmosphere is more serious, it has more bleak tone than the second one (or any other entry in the series). Still - both are there at the top of the best crpg of all times.

The rest I liked to some extent, but it just felt so off the mark. They're not BAD as some religious fans make them out to be, it's just different game design philosophy. Also Bethesda never completely understood what Fallout is really about, they just mish-mashed parts of the universe in their games they thought were cool.

I also understand fans that started with the 3rd game in the series and their love for it. I'm not gonna lie - I was hugely disappointed with third game when it came out and reaction was something along the lines - lookhowtheymassacredmyboy.gif. First two are now pretty archaic and hard to get into, but pretty rewarding in the end. Remaster or full on remakes would be awesome, I would even take first person version of that. Shame though, that some of the themes would probably be cut cause of the current oversensitive climate (you can't even make post apocalyptic game anymore with all the horrors that humankind is capable of, everything would probably be watered down).

So, for me:

1. Fallout
2. Fallout 2
3. Fallout: New Vegas
4. Fallout 3
5. Fallout 4
6. Fallout: Tactics (didn't enjoy it back in the day)

Didn't try abominations like FO and Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel.

Fallout 1 is much superior to Fallout 2 to me. It is on another league.

Fallout 2 has more content, a lot of C&C but there isn't a unity in the setting. Some locations seems like they are from different games. And there are so many silly jokes that the atmosphere is destroyed. When I play I don't level up Survival because I don't want to destroy even more the immersion with all the joke locations.

It is an awesome CRPG, obviously. But if I can't take the setting seriously, it defeats the purpose, since the main appeal to me is "(...) explore more of the world and more of the ethics of a post-nuclear world (...)", like the famous Tim Cain's quote says.

That's the main reason I prefer first one now. Back in the day, I played F2 first so that shaped my perception of what Fallout should be. Don't get me wrong, I still love the hell out of it, it's phenomenal game but first one tackles setting and depiction of post apocalypse better.

While F2 has silly moments (and too many pop culture references) it can still be really bleak with it's atmosphere. But F1 feels more focused, that's probably cause more 'teams' inside Black Isle worked on different parts of F2 so it can feel disjointed at times.

Fallout 2(because it was my first Fallout? idk) > Fallout 1 > Fallout 1,5(google it, awesome mod)

I didn't like newer ones, even New Vegas. This franchise changed like Assassin's Creed but in a bad way. They should give a different name to it.

F3 > F4 > Vegas

Vegas was terrible and I bailed on 360. BUT, supposedly it got good after patches. I already bailed. All I remember was it was all sand and brown and tons of glitches with NPCs going through walls or levitating into the ceiling.

If anyone has a Series X and getting into Fallout now, play F4 with the ultras mods at 4k/60. Phenomenal. Not a fair comparison due to it being boosted the past month, but based solely on visuals and speedy loading times, that ranks #1. PLaying F4 on Xbox One years back it was ok. It was really just F3 v2 but with a touch better graphics, settlement building, crafting and mega suits. The core game was 99% like F3.

But I didn't really get into dabbling with Series X F4 lately like Skyrim at 4k/60. Maybe I'll go back, but Skyrim is addictive at this quality.
