Sony patents Dualsense back button attachment

Sony has patented a Back-Button Attachment type add-on device for DualSense. A system like this was also built for PlayStation 4, so I think the DualSense one will be entirely similar. This add-on makes gaming easier for disabled gamers and makes buttons easier to reach if you have small hands. The patent also states that you can remap all the buttons on the back I think it was the same case with the DualShock 4 Back Button Attachment Add-On.

Here's the actual patent: https://patentscope.wipo.int/search/en/detail.jsf?docId=WO2021021362&tab=PCTBIBLIO

First I thought it was a bad and weird ideia.

After read some impressions it really seems these back buttons are game changer... at least it was for Dual Shock 4.

This is incorrect.

It's simply the patent for the back button attachment, regardless of the controller. In fact, the controller isn't named and the dotted line means that the controller is irrelevant to the design in regards to the patent. This is another case of a website that knows nothing about patents and misinterprets them in order to make news out of something that isn't.

Incidentally, a new patent would not be required at all for a new controller unless the design and functionality of the attachment were radically changed.

so the controller is already 70 bucks without taxes and you want a 150 controller? cant imagine all the shitstorm that would make.
Not sure it would cost them that much to incorporate another button or two to into the controller... this was priced so high to recoup losses on the console

If that's the case then mods are free to lock if they want to.

Should have it built into the controller imo, but cool for people that want it
nah fuck it.
I dont want neither paddles or button where my fingers rest. And the controller is heavy enough.
But if it's optional, cool . why no
