The Division 2 Next Gen Update PS5 vs Xbox Series S/X

Great game but we all know that 1 is better because of snow.

God of War didn't increase resolution for PS5, because you can't do that on PS5 with a PS4 game running in BC mode. GoW is running at the same max resolution as it did on PS4 Pro. Like every other BC game on PS5.
It already had 1080p 60fps mode for PS5 launch, new patch increased resolution.

the division on the pro was 1728p resoloution if you look it up
I did, DF said it was 1944p max, obviously PS5 hits the max more often. It is PS4 Pro version with unlocked framerate.

Twinfinite? That's your source?

My source is Digital Foundry: https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2019-the-division-2-tested-on-all-systems

''As you might expect, PlayStation 4 Pro doesn't quite match the X, with the developer deploying both DRS and temporal anti-aliasing in delivering its 4K output mode. Our sample range witnessed 3456x1944 at the top-end, dropping to a recorded minimum of 2458x1382.''

  • PS5 also has lower quality reflections, fog, and anisotropic filtering than Series X|S
  • Series S loads fastest, followed by Series X, and then PS5
  • All platforms stay at a pretty reliable 60fps, with PS5 being the most consistent
  • Some buggy water effects on PS5/Series X. Series S doesn't have these bugs
  • Series S has some problems loading some textures.
  • Series X 2160p
  • Series S 1080p
  • PS5 1944p

Once again series x the best place to play last gen games.

They kind of did. And it happened because in the original code (v1.0), they did make it 4K 60 FPS. They later locked that 4K resolution to 1080p in later patches. Theoretically, they reverted back to those v1.0 settings. Now the game runs in 4K 60 patched.

I don't know if this is how they did it exactly, but perhaps it might have made things easier for them to hit that target.

its relevant I. the fact this game has done the same but is being downplayed as only a BC patch, its huge jump on both games
Because it is a BC patch. But a BC patch means something different on PS5 than it does on Xbox consoles, that's the point. They can't go beyond the resolution cap of a PS4 game on PS5 BC mode or change graphical settings like they can on Xbox.

PS4 Pro had a 4K30 mode, they just unlocked the frame-rate on that mode.

people saying here god of war got a resolution bump as well

Did he downplay this when he put this in the description?

- The game runs in backward compatibility mode. In PS5 it presents some graphical problems.
- The resolution in Series S is 1080p, in Series X 2160p and in PS5 1944p (the maximum that PS4 Pro reached).
- Significantly better loading times on Xbox.
- Series S presents some problems with the loading of some textures.
- Reflections, fog, anisotropic filtering and draw distance are worse on PS5. Considering that PS4 did not have these problems, it is more likely that it was a bug in the patch. - Shadows have the same quality in all versions.
- Water effects are not well represented in some areas on Series X and PS5. S series works normally.
- Regarding the framerate, the Xbox versions have some minimal drop and PS5 remains constant at 60FPS (probably due to the difference in resolution).
- As soon as another patch comes out, I'll keep you posted in case there are any changes to the PS5 version.

It's been known for awhile how patches work with BC games. So far, BC patches have matches the PS4 Pro resolution and graphical settings.

Yep, it's pretty obvious the launch day restrictions of BC are not the same. A game can be patched to tell it's running on PS5 hardware, and adjust automatically to unlocked 60fps settings. There is no "framerate" option on Division 2, it just unlocks to 60fps the Pro version if you are on PS5 hardware.

There is no "PS5 version". This is enhanced backward compatibility only. Not full GPU utilization. Not full CPU utilization. Game not optimized for SSD. Means nothing beyond capabilities of backward compatibility in general and which version of this specific title you'd like to play.

I think funny when I read “This is not PS5 code” or anything like that... It is one kind of statement that only implies that the only thing PS5 has that is superior is the devkit.

would the raw speed os the PS5 just be quicker than xbox though?

apparently the increase in resoloution is wrong for God of war on PS5 and didn't happen
And where's your proof that the resolution was increased?

So far, BC patches have matched the PS4 Pro's resolution for all games.

That ones that received enhancements were only available if you downloaded a separate version and your saves didn't transfer over. This happened with Control and Mortal Kombat 11.

wouldnt that be the same on the series x though running the xbox one version
What happened in GoW (and before that, Ghost) is that the patch unlocked the framerate for an additional quality mode (therefore making the performance mode redundant). Increasing the resolution of a PS4 Pro game is not trivial, it seems.
And third party developers are not keen on putting in extra effort.

Old gen games still have old codes. Those codes didn't have any SSD or I/O block to leverage. So they all used CPU for loading and decompression.

In other words, an old gen game doesn't even see PS5 decompressors and new I/O block and completely bypass it. Any slight loading benefits you see is because of the CPU. This is true for both PS5 and Xbox Series X and S.

I just read about God of War and they changed the resolution on it and stopped it being Checkerboard 4k, so it did indeed get a resolution bump on PS5

It's just BC mode with 60fps:

It's been three years since the original launch of The Division; technology has evolved with the sequel, and Massive still delivers a pleasantly clean and crisp look to the game, with Xbox One X operating at native 4K - 3840x2160 - a significant achievement for this advanced engine. Dynamic resolution scaling is a feature of the Snowdrop engine and was deployed in the first game, but despite a number of sample tests, everything we looked at here presents at a full ultra HD pixel count. Perhaps it kicks in during heavier scenes we've not witnessed yet, but so far, everything effectively points to a native 4K release.

As you might expect, PlayStation 4 Pro doesn't quite match the X, with the developer deploying both DRS and temporal anti-aliasing in delivering its 4K output mode. Our sample range witnessed 3456x1944 at the top-end, dropping to a recorded minimum of 2458x1382. A reconstruction technique appears to blend in visual data from previous frames, so with static scenes in particular, Pro looks remarkably similar to its X counterpart.

There's no point in saying "it's just BC" because all games but a handful ones on both platforms are doing the same and some still claim "anotherone.gif" LMAO.

Can't wait for proper next-gen built games to be tested.
What are you talking about? There is a clear and obvious distinction between a BC game and a native game. I don't understand why some of you keep trying muddy this up to make it all seem like it's the same.

There is still a difference. Old-gen games running in BC mode only inherit PS4 Pro settings on PS5. Those can't be changed.

On the other hand, old gen games with proper next-gen SKUs don't adhere to those limits. For example, Control Next-Gen Ultimate Edition is a separate version on the PS5. Even saves don't transfer, and it has different trophies -- essentially making it into a different game. That can have ray-tracing, different res, and different frame rates. It is not limited by PS4 Pro settings in any way.

So that comparison is still a lot of fair.

People deliberately ignore this because it doesn't fit their narrative.

- The functionality of the patch is basically to remove the 30fps limitation to the resolution mode of PS4 Pro, getting constant 60fps in PS5.
- It must be made clear that the game continues to run in backward compatibility mode, it is not a native port for PS5.
- The same could be achieved with version 1.00 of the game, however, it had some graphical errors and crashes.
- The resolution remains the same as on PS4 Pro, 3840x2160p with Checkerboard.
- Draw distance has been improved on PS5. Before it was somewhat inferior compared to PS4.
- Loading times when starting a game have been improved. The fast trip maintains the same times with respect to the previous version.

It's the same resolution as the PS4 Pro.

You keep ignoring facts because you want to stick to a narrative that it received a resolution bump when there's no proof to support your claim.

checkerboard makes a lower res unto 4k and the pro does it well. PS5 version looks much better on that video
