"Nintendo has practically eradicated PlayStation" from Japanese market | 99% of game sales of 2021 in Japan is switch

If you're saying that companies don't compete strategically, then you are wrong --

For example, Astro Playroom is a clear swipe at the Mario market. A free game, as good or better than Odyssey and a solid business move that basically says -- our games have far bigger "movie like" production value than Nintendo's but if you want that kiddy stuff then here, it's free anyway.

If market saturation like this continues, awareness and shares will drop and Sony will be forced to act.
As amazing as Astrobot was, Japan Studio's swan song was not better than Odyssey lmao not even close

The AAA market is dead in Japan. Young people grew up with mobile, minigames and gachas. That's all they know and they don't want anything else.

Knew Sony has been too into western cock lately.

The more western they are, the less interested I am in them.

Save TLOU and GOT, I'm not really into Sony's games.

Fuck is Wipeout? Jumping Flash? I miss the Sony that made the PS1.
Unfortunately this is also the case for me mate. The PS1 and PS2 had the best games IMO. Oh well, shikata ga nai.

PS5 design is the last nail in the coffin of Playstation.

In Japan religion, things have "chi", what means that theres good or bad spirit in things; Nintendo Switch is just beautiful and sweet, ps5 is huge like the gates of mordor, mishappen like a truck just run over.

PS5 will be kicked out the japanese market some years, because very stupid design. Besides, there´s no more interesting exclusives games por Japan; god of war, the last of us... all boring games for japanese.

feels more like playstation eradicated itself from the japanese market
Because they focus too much from the western side of gaming. I feel like they are somewhat running away from the Japanese market even more. I mean I understand the money is from the west but in my opinion, what made them special is the unique Japanese games they had exclusively from PlayStation.

Can it even fit in the average apartment in Japan? I remember people saying the OG Xbox was too big for an apartment in Japan.

It´s not the size not fitting in apartments, it´s the unharmonious design, they cant deal with things that are not cute in their homes

Yeah they really need to make a PS5 "Slim" as quickly as possible.

Who cares about Japan? They're just an overpopulated island.

Just only EU is about 4 times the population of Japan and we're interested in adult games, please. Kids games are alright, but old people like to play too, you know?

This is really dumb. Developers like Mihoyo and Ubisoft had openly admitted they were inspired by BOTW for their games.
Ok and? Doesn't mean that every single thread about any open-world game or any cel-shading games has to have Nintendo fanboys tell us how amazing Breath of the Wild or Windwaker is.

Basically Nintendo invented swords and grass to them.

Watch them start attacking Studio Ghibli be like "wow, I can't believe Ni No Kuni 3 is copying Breath Of The Wild....sad, omgbbqlolz"

I saw more people like you complaining about people wanking on BOTW greatness. Just let it go and accept the fact about 97 metascore of BOTW and SMO.

Thinks buying more servers can fix a bad patch
How many unsold PS5s are sitting on store shelves in Japan? Zero?

Why don't we wait until supply can meet demand there, before saying the PS5 won't sell in Japan.

Also, 2021 is a few weeks old.

OP is about software sales, not hardware.

Pretty simple. Japan prefers handhelds. The last home console that preformed exceptionally well was the PS2. Even the Wii, which seemed to be right up Japan's alley, only did marginally better than the much more expensive PS3. 12M vs 10M.

In the end, I only expect the PS5 to do 8M-9M in Japan. That's much better than some of the doomsayers are speculating based foolishly on numbers of a sold out product with little supply, yet.

Vita is a flop in Japan though

Biggest eye sore in gaming history. I can't believe how stupid the PS5 looks. Had it been the same design at a completely different scale it might have been okay, but put the weird ass design together with its cartoonish size and it's pretty unbelievable how bad it looks.

Whenever I see this pic I have to stop and check to see if it's an edited meme photo or the real deal.

The thing is literally bigger than his entire fucking torso.

Big Mario fan here, which is why I disliked Odyssey so much -- I consider it to be watered down with no real focus, far too much wandering around looking for stuff.
I haven't actually played Astrobot, but I've heard great things. If it's terrible you may well be right. My point stands though. As a business move it's clear.

Sony doesn't give a shit about the Japanese market. Their focus there is on mobile gaming and insurance services. The Playstation is, from now on, a west born and targeted product.

Nintendo on the other hand, basically cares about all, but it clearly lacks a more western appeal.

I doubt SONY cares. Japan market is nothing like it was and moved to mobile and Handheld systems.
It sad mind and not really for Japan developers who used to be world leading for AAA games on the consoles

It’s nothing to do with superior taste, it’s to do with japan makes certain games the West doesn’t and vice versa. Some people are using that to war from both sides, I don’t give a toss about most western supposedly aaa games but I still enjoy the odd one. Same way I don’t enjoy the waifu fanservice weeb type stuff japan does either. I like been able to buy from both regions as they do games that I like from both. With a switch & PS4 I pretty much get the best of both worlds.

This is extremly stupid - first observation period is too short. We didn't have any major releases in January.

Second it's based on top 30 numbers - which means they are completly ignoring what is happening below that.

Obviously switch dominates but certain games will only be possible on big consoles and Sony cannot be ignored due to worldwide situation.

Major release in February
Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury
Bravely Default 2
Story of the seasons

Major release in March
Monster Hunter Rise

You're telling them to wait for more big titles to be released on Switch lol.

I warned them years back that they needed to bring back Socom, but with anybody it’s only listen to me?

What were we discussing again?

PlayStation went nuclear with support for PS4.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake
Monster Hunter World.

Can't think of anything bigger that would turn Japanese gamers to PlayStation.
So, two games, one of which is just a temporary exclusive (that happens to be extremely popular in the west) and a multiplatform game?

You honestly could have cited better examples like Sakura wars and Persona 5, though Sony isn't even involved in those

And since you mentioned monster hunter, don't forget MH Rise

Japan's population skews older no? Nintendo fans tend to be older too.
Gaming in Japan is non prevalent once you finish university. You are expected to do adult things, also Japanese terrible work life balance doesn’t leave you time for gaming anyway.

Japanese developers will make the games that make the most money. I'm just grateful that they haven't all fucked off to mobile yet- in that sense we should be grateful to Nintendo.
