Microsoft Q2 2021 Destroys Sales and Profits (Xbox +40%)

How much net profit has Azure made? or Office?

They can’t be doing that be doing that well either I suppose, since they are hiding numbers. 🤷‍♂️
they used to show all this, they only stopped when they were not doing so well, plus the competition, have no problems showing these numbers. Im just not going jump for joy, with these numbers, when they hide most important number, xbox could be losing billions every year and we would never know, untill they deicde to pull the plug on xbox.

Shit is crazy good.

I expect the same from Nintendo and Sony. People love gaming during these Covid times, all 3 major players should be doing great.

major players, what is being done on those systems everyone is discussing? how many top streamers are using consoles?
You guys said that 3 months ago. They would've expired by now, no?

I was just making an observation. Just because you say you have 18 million subs, what is the avg per month user right now, as an investor, this is what i would want to know.

As an investor Xbox is a minor blip on the radar (game pass even less so) in MS financials. You are going to focus more on the actual services that drive the majority of the revenue for the company.

Regardless MS has hit FAANG stock status so most people just mindlessly invest, knowing it’s going to keep growing and if you decide to sell there’s always going to be someone there to buy.

Of course revenue is going to be up, they launched two consoles during the quarter! All of gaming is up that goes for every gaming company, a 40 percent jump isnt impressive.

At this point when it comes to Xbox I'm just glad to see any sort of success. I would never buy one, playstation4lyf, but the last thing the industry needs is for Sony to have no competition.

Um, you know the industry would survive without MS, Sony and Nintendo, right? As for competition, they are but a small scratch of the surface.

You're saying the console side of the industry would survive without the three main players? Yeah I'm sure something would come along and fill the void, but what a pain in the ass that would be. We all have a good thing going right now. All three have been in the game for decades, they know what the deal is.

Regardless, that wasn't even what I was referring to. My comment literally says "the last thing the industry needs is for Sony to have no competition". As in there are certain things that Microsoft does to keep Sony on their toes, we all know what arrogant Sony is like.

The immediate and quick celebration of such a hollow victory for your brand of choice with so little to show for makes me genuinely believe this is some sort internet campaign from MS HQ to make it seem like people care about Xbox. 40 percent growth of the only thing they can tout as a victory during the holidays and launch of your brand new cheap console isn’t that impressive to me.

I wish just for one time, one quarter, Microsodt release an indeph breakdown of each division, device, service, etc, just to shut up the fucking fanboys because its getting to the point where Microsoft could announce a 1000% increase over last quarter, and pathetic fanboys will still try to twist it into Xbox doing bad, and Nadella is desperate to get rid, blah fucking blah lol.
Honestly this place is so tiresome sometimes.

Worth almost $2 trillion, make $15 billion in profits every quarter and they still tried to scam their most loyal userbase by doubling the price.

Pretty shocking tbh.
The loyal userbase actually wouldn't have had a price increase. The increase was designed to get new Xbox users to subscribe to Game Pass instead of Gold.

As pointed out to you on page 1 that’s 40% growth in content and services. You keep omitting the 89% increase in Hardware from MS hollow victory.

Let's be real here, this isn't that impressive when it comes to their games division. HW sales in 2019 we're not very good, they got a Covid boost early-mid 2020, and launched new HW, yet HW sales were only up 83%? Should have at least doubled last year's numbers. And by their wording, 'best Xbox launch month," we can tell XSX has fallen below XBO numbers outside of launch month.

And it's not hard to be up so much in GamePass subs when you are constantly doing these deals...

Microsoft’s latest Game Pass Ultimate deal gives new users 3 months for $1

And they say Xbox is doomed just like they say about Nintendo being doomed for over 20 years now. Ohh you hate to see it.

March to the start of September.

Start of September to at least the end of December (If not into January).

I would assume.
I mean these are quarterly stats, so they are usually based on 3 month periods. They reported 10 million Gamepass users at end of March because that was end of Microsoft's Q1. They then reported 15 million at the end of Q1 2021, which ended on the last day of September. It does look like growth accelerated. Honestly, that should be expected when launching a new console too

Hmm, just imagine if Apple went into the gaming space and made a serious gaming console and get the likes out of every developer out there. Now that is competition
If Apple came out with a bonafide powerful system, they would get tons of third party support and gamers eager to trying it...... until they announce the price of the console at $999. Then gamer interest drops like a rock and they prefer an Xbox/Sony/Nintendo system at half price or less.

Apple is a high margin only company.

They aren't selling anything for cheap, subsidizing costs or selling millions of consoles for breakeven.

They are 3rd based on what?
Are you deliberately being disingenuous? I think it's obvious Nintendo was no1 and Sony no2 this past quarter in console sales.
There is a reason why MS has stopped releasing certain numbers. They combine them with others so the Xbox numbers look better on paper.
We always come down to this childish response from fangirls that MS as whole is very profitable. I always wonder how Bill Gates and the rest of the MS boys became so rich because obviously it wasn't because of how profitable MS was, was it?
Concerning Gamepass, I paid £23 for one year of Xbox Live Gold from Brazil. I bought three years worth and converted it to GP Ultimate for three years. There are loads of people catching onto this. So how profitable do you think it is? Obviously MS can easily afford it but make no mistake if you think shareholder's are going to let them throw billions away every year.

Of course as a shareholder, and someone who just likes games, I would be more than happy to see them keep improving, but this isn't it. They need to grow by multiples, not fractions.
Why are you grumpy at this point? As a shareholder I’m in party mode, they beat all expectations and the stock spiked in the aftermarket. Sell if you want but I’m not leaving this rocket anytime soon 🚀🥳

How many times do you think this has been said about Xbox in the last 20 years? It has to be in the millions by now.

How many times has it been true?

They have been 'desperate to get out of gaming' for like 10 years now, and they have released more consoles than anyone it that time.
I mean people are still saying it now in the next gen thread, just as Microsoft have launched 2 new consoles that will be around for the next 8+ years, and announced huge growth in their gaming division.

And guess what people will end up buying it. Just like the idea of a console costing $500. Just because you won't buy it doesn't mean others won't.

I doubt an Apple console at $999 would even outsell XSS over the gen, nevermind PS5. Well unless it was like 80tf or something.

- Series X|S launch moved the most devices in an Xbox launch mon
- gaming revenue hit $5B, the highest-ever for a quart
- $2B in revenue from third-party game sales
- Xbox Live hit 100M monthly active users
- 18M Xbox Game Pass subscribers.

But Xbox has no GAMEz!

Ok, great for MS but what’s XB net profit for the quarter?
Whats the console sales numbers for the s/x?
Whats the gold and GP sub numbers?
Why does any of that matter?

MS is a business, all revenue gets lumped together vs all expenses for a net profit/loss.

They stopped breaking all the divisions down like that to stem off some of the toxic infighting between divisions that MS used to be famous for.

Whats Azures net profit? How about Office? How many subscribers?

Maybe read the thread next time before jumping in with a hot take thats already been beaten like a dead horse.

It matters because when we compare to Sony and Nintendo in a few weeks we can see how each company game division is doing.
Sony and Nintendo release net income for games why can’t Microsoft?

Let's be honest be honest here...

You wouldn't be impressed no matter what the numbers were.

Also, how often can we expect you to return with your "I'm not impressed" schtick?

Because they don't have to and when they used to do it, it pitted divisions against each other and created a toxic workplace.

You should email them and ask them to make it hostile again so you can have your console wars though.

I'm sure they will listen.

Meh. When they continue to withhold numbers for the console sector, it means they're not where they want to be on that front. GP subs are hard to go by, when there's no breakdown on how much of this subs are using PC games over consoles.

I'm expecting Sony to emerge victorious in that matchup, by a considerable margin, and Nintendo to dunk on that both of them. I couldn't care less about any of the companies outside of their console offerings, of which Nintendo is lacking.

why would they release info for just the Xbox division when they don’t release that info for any of their other divisions. They changed reporting years ago. They aren’t going to change their public reporting for fanboys.

changing the information you disclose is a huge pain.

they don’t show any profitability for any of their segments. Why would they just show Xbox when they don’t show azure or office profitability.

some of you want them to report it purely for fanboy wars when they literally don’t report it for any of their other divisions.
Why would they make an exception here?

Wow, you guys capping hard.
Do you realize they have released numbers so your bs excuses about infighting is trash.
😂, they really just hiding net income because it’s poorer than expected.
It will leak, so imma move on.

He explained why. They have a shitload of divisions and they don't want to have any infighting.
Tbf, that's just cover for their market position. They started glomming things together back when it was apparent that they weren't going to take over the gaming industry. Investors don't like seeing a division bleeding red, as console launches tend to do. There are more profitable divisions at MS that make their reports look a lot better, and if they can mask some of the riskier stuff with it, they will.

It's the opposite for Sony. Playstation is their bread winner, so they want investors to know that business is booming.

The infighting excuse is just that, an excuse. Companies always flaunt their successes. It's good for raising capital. MS is committed to breaking into gaming, do they've just found different ways of masking the total cost of that venture. Should they ever dominate a generation, expect their reporting to change to reflect that more clearly.
