There really needs to be some kind of moderation for people who leave dozens of LOLs in every thread on daily basis. I've put people on ignore for it and it has helped me ignore these morons but now im seeing it happen to other posters and it is simply not good for the discourse on this forum.

I am not asking for LOL reactions to go away or or even banning LOL reactions as a substitute for mocking posts but surely leaving literally hundreds of LOL emojis a week instead of engaging in discussion warrants a warning.

Is there a way mods can see how many lol reactions a poster has left? Check out Riky's reaction history and you guys will find hundreds of LOL reactions left by him just this year alone. Absolutely psychotic behavior.

There are others like darius who left like ten reactions on another poster's posts in one thread in a day. At some point, it becomes less about putting up with this shit and having a thicker skin and more about not allowing morons to degrade the quality of discourse on this forum.
Wait a minute....the LOL reaction isn't genuinely friendly? I feel betrayed. I thought all those bastards were laughing at my jokes.

This has to be one of the most pathetically insecure, feminine pearl clutching posts i have ever seen on gaf.

Jesus fuck, take a look at yourself in the mirror friend, not just caring about reactions but caring enough to take note of the names of posters and then ask the mods to stop them?

Your life must be almost unbearable, how do you function at work with gossip and shit like that? You really need to learn not to care, i think you should be embarrassed about posting something like that, it paints you in such a weak insecure light and no wonder so many people laughed reacted to your post.

With the departure of almost all my favourite posters on the site, it's time for me to make good on my username and join them.

In the last four or so years Neogaf became one of my favourite places to go on the internet to discuss things as there was a moderation policy of free speech and bans were seldom handed out. We were treated like big kids, able to enjoy the rough and tumble of debate and crying to the mods became a completely ineffective strategy for winning an argument. As often happens when free speech is allowed, the forum started to culturally lean more to the libertarian side of politics (both right and left libertarian), as well as giving room for other culturally underserved viewpoints like social conservatism (which basically gave rise to the Clown World Thread, RIP, as the madness and horror of the dominant culture was laid bare), and that of course, meant freely questioning the state and of authority was pretty standard. However, anyone dissenting from this was welcome too, and so it was a lively and interesting place.

Neogaf has heated up of late in no small part due to the exodus from ResetEra over their Cyberpunk 2077 moderation policies, which led to mass bans for people who just wanted to talk freely about the game, so the free speech approach was really working well and the site was reaching critical mass.

However, since the Kafka-esque new moderation policies on the Politics Forum (no 'conspiracy theories' or 'fringe content', whatever that means), there has been a whirlwind of bans in which some of my favourite posters, who for me were really the heart and soul of the site, have basically been excommunicated. This feels like a betrayal of what I thought Neogaf was meant to be about.

I was banned from the politics forum for this post:

It does make it very clear who has the power. To be honest I’m not 100% clear on the new rules still because ‘conspiracy theory’ and ‘fringe content’ are open to interpretation. Just because the Great Reset is called a conspiracy theory by the NYT and the BBC, does this mean we can’t discuss it when it is indisputably a real thing that is going to impact all our lives and that the Biden administration, via John Kerry, have said they will take forward “with greater speed and with greater intensity than a lot of people might imagine.”

I intend to continue to speak freely within the framework of the new rules as far as is possible. Censorship is clearly an issue and basically it’s in all our interests to stop this place from being taken down. Doesn’t mean we can’t discuss things, just means we have to consider how we do so.

This impacts everyone, regardless of political alignment. If I perceive the moderation policy become partisan I will raise it with the mods. I am already concerned with the bans given out if I’m honest but I’ll have to see how it goes.

I will also have a zero tolerance policy towards personal insults, being accused of being a conspiracy theorist or mentally ill, and being goaded with the triggered and lol reactions, even when I have made a joke. There will be no humour allowed on my watch.

Do not laugh at my jokes.

The explanation given by EviLore was "You're off Politics".

I think anyone objective can see that kicking me off politics for that is completely over the top - maybe my deliberately accelerationist doublethink pushing for more banning and attempt at humour went over completely wrong, maybe we're not allowed to talk about the Great Reset, maybe my talk of speaking freely to the edge of getting the place taken down spooked him, who knows, it was never explained.

I have stayed on a bit to see if I can stomach it, but basically I've come to accept that the old Neogaf is gone. The people who value freedom of speech and who are effectively dissidents against the now institutionally and globally dominant political and cultural power in some form or another, have been banned or electively decided to stop posting. The people who dislike free speech and think readily banning people is an acceptable measure in fostering a community and are onside with the set of acceptable opinions allowed in the ever shrinking Overton window are staying, delighted at the bans. There really is no debate anymore - it's pointless. It's becoming a monoculture, and one which I find increasingly unattractive, and so therefore the only option left is exit.

EviLore is dismissing the concerns and the exodus of the people who stuck with the site and were regular, high volume posters and helped it get where it was, so there's no point appealing to him. The new moderation policies are in my view wrong headed, self-destructive and divisive, and only serve to stifle debate and drive people away, but hey, maybe I'm wrong, maybe traffic will go up, maybe the old posters were too small of a market and basically belong in museum.

So that's it. It was good while it lasted. Good luck everyone. May the odds be ever in your favour.

Translation: “Since I can’t talk conspiracy theories on a video game forum and more folks hold different opinions than me, I now think this site is going to hell in a hand basket because... reasons.”

Debate is as open as it ever has been. The only difference is that people can’t run for a conspiracy theory and childish insulting rhetoric on politics side - something that hasn’t been allowed on the other boards for months now. People were warned and those that didn’t abide by the rules were removed or account suicided.

Maybe spend more time on the reasons this site exists (Aka video games) and less time on politics which only a very tiny portion of the user base actually looks at.

Alright. Follow up with me in a week or two when things have cooled off and there's been time to evaluate the state of that Dan Ryckert thread.
Hey Mr Lore :messenger_beaming:

It's been a week - can we open the GB thread or even better, start a new one if we all promise to be behave like adults in there?

You must be lashing out from embarrassment, since there is nothing in the post that was insulting. You should reflect on whatever emotion you're feeling and grow beyond petty insults.

I've noticed the name calling has really escalated in the politics sections, let's all try to do better.

And why do people announce it when they leave an internet forum? It's so dramatic. Just don't log in if you don't like it here.

It can be good to say your piece. If you have issues with a business or service, would it not be more valuable for the owner to know why they are suddenly losing customers?

Also, it could be to say goodbye to people. Take your pick. 🤷‍♂️

Take the White Pill and move on with your life.

I'm speaking from my own experience: I took the White Pill and moved on from this kind of news.

It became unhealthy and I became unproductive as a result.

We know now enough of what's really going on, so you're not ignorant anymore.

Just remember to take the White Pill before it's too late.

What's happening is all part of the historical process.

Start investing in your own lives and move on and forward, like every human being that went through a difficult and confusing/complicated era on this earth.

There's still lots of beautiful pockets in this world.

Don't let the hyperdimensional matrix delude you into thinking you have any power over these things.

The most you can do is live life to the fullest and start thinking about your purpose in life.

I will not go further than this.

Good luck, everyone 🌹

I feel like these points are at odds with one another and it's about time the people leaving GAF out of PRINCIPLE at least question a bit if that decision is due to some bans regarding to qanonization of PoliGAF or if they're doing that because they no longer find the safe echo chamber they desired. As it's often the case when FREE SPEECH is invoked, people don't want free speech. People don't want to be told they're conspiracy theorist loonies. They don't want to be told they're purple haired lard asses who wouldn't survive a cultural revolution. Whoever you side with it doesn't matter, because at the end of the day it's not about where you stand on the political spectrum, it's where you are on the autism spectrum. You start to see any attacks to your view as an affront. You connect the dots and see an authoritarian stance while ignoring that some discussions go so low that they need to be gently pushed towards a different path.

And that is to say I don't agree with the moderation, so this isn't me kissing ass. I think perming fools left and right and going nuclear is a bit too extreme, maybe putting forth some stricter guidelines and doing that "gently push" thing a bit gentler would have been the ideal thing. However, that doesn't mean the forum wasn't headed towards a dark path in its discourse, so not doing anything at all wasn't an option. You don't want to become a radical breeding grounds, you don't want to host people comparing storming the capitol with the fucking independence and let the chips fall where the may. Speaking from personal experience, I've seen some posts on the COVID thread that were so unbelievably stupid they wouldn't qualify as retarded since that wasn't dense enough for it. The daily PROOF OF ELECTION FRAUD LATER TODAY threads were way more offensive to human inteligence than moderation going a bit overboard.

And being banned from the Politics section of a GAMING BOARD shouldn't IMO be taken as an extremely hostile measures, maybe just post about games? Then again, it's about the PRINCIPLE. The principle that your views aren't the commonly accepted one, that you're not free to post random unchecked stuff in the year of our lord when this became a fucking plague in our society. I'm probably not articulating this as well as I wanted to, but the point is to look at your surroundings and see if that moderation presence was completely unearned. If those bans are common enough that the situation became unberable. If the level of discussion was actually grounded in any semblance of rationality. And confront that with the perceived loss of holding the majority opinion and how safe that felt and whether your arguments are strong enough that they could hold their own. Like maybe the problem isn't that you see the creation of an echo chamber, but rather that you lost yours.

That and people often misconstrue morals and values to fit their narrative

Some dude's forum isn't public property, and you bet your ass that on private property you don't get the full protection of free speech

Hence why I can ask my ass neighbor to "Kindly get the fuck off my property before I configure you differently," when he's coming to my house at 11PM at night to yell at me about the other neighbors dogs

Also why if you go to Chuck E Cheese and talk about molesting children they're gonna prolly ask you to stop or to leave

Also glad you are back Afro Republican Afro Republican 😉

That and people often misconstrue morals and values to fit their narrative

Some dude's forum isn't public property, and you bet your ass that on private property you don't get the full protection of free speech

Hence why I can ask my ass neighbor to "Kindly get the fuck off my property before I configure you differently," when he's coming to my house at 11PM at night to yell at me about the other neighbors dogs

Also why if you go to Chuck E Cheese and talk about molesting children they're gonna prolly ask you to stop or to leave

Great point about Chuck E Cheese! There are some topics that while they might not be taboo, they're sensitive enough that talking about it like an idiot is going to get you removed from a certain place. You shouldn't talk about pedophilia with surface level knowledge, just as you shouldn't do that to the events leading up to the capitol being stormed.
