Cyberpunk 2077 Is the Biggest Digital Game Launch Ever

"Cyberpunk 2077 had the biggest game launch of all time based on digital revenue and digital units sold (10.2M)*. A successful marketing campaign and the reputation of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt provided the hype necessary for the CD Projekt Red title to break records despite issues including performance problems on consoles, widespread glitches and the indefinite removal of the game from the PlayStation Store. An extremely high share of digital sales (80%) were on PC, likely due to the delisting on PlayStation and overall state of the console versions.

* These estimates do include digital copies that have been refunded, but our data shows that refunds did not substantially affect the game's aggregate sales.

I bought 3 copies myself. PC digital, Xbox digital (with limited edition Xbox One X) and Xbox Collector's edition.

Great game.

But ... Why? I can understand getting one for each platform, if you really want to play it on different systems. But why the third copy? 😂

And the most disaster digital game launch ever too.

Reputation took a big hit which is something that takes a long time to build. People will avoid their next game at launch like the pleague and deservingly so until they prove otherwise.

Just like the hit they took with W3's PS4 issues, right?

Players check stocks to decide whether to buy a product they're hyped about? News to me... I've been doing it wrong, I guess.
Wasn't implying that? Just that unarguably this is much more disastrous than W3 on PS4 at launch, both financially and in public perception.

Someone didn't play Anthem when that shit came out.
Cyberpunk was pulled from the PSN store with refunds from both consoles on a large scale. The situation is so bad Bloomberg called it a “Disastrous Rollout”. It is a bigger launch disaster than Anthem or anything before it.

I've avoided consoles like the plague the last 10 years. Turned out OK even with Cyber.

Amazing fucking game. Wasn't fan of the story, the storytelling however was great but the nain plot just sucks (it would suck in any game, it just doesn't work).

5 December 2020:
my hype is through the roof right now. here is my plan for next week (i'm off work):

Monday: preload the game on GOG. start reading the rest of The World of Cyberpunk 2077 + rewatch Dredd (2012). gonna try going to sleep at ~2/3PM and wake up at ~10/11PM so i can change my sleeping hours in preperation for the midnight launch.

Tuesday: rewatch Blade Runner and finish off The World of Cyberpunk 2077 if I haven't already. go to sleep at ~2/3PM and wake up at ~10/11PM.

Wednesday: go to shops and stock up on food, energy drinks, and alcohol. get shit done around the house and then rewatch Blade Runner 2049 and then go to sleep at ~2/3PM and wake up at ~10/11PM. Once I wake up I'll be straight onto my PC counting down the remaing time.

Thursday to Sunday: play. sleep. play. sleep. the only time i'm leaving my PC is if i need to restock food/drink or go take a shit/piss. I'll need to try readjust my sleeping hours for going back to work on Monday.

Today:
got my refund. i'm done with this game.

It wasn't "revolutionary" or anything, but it felt like a fresh and unique experience. I haven't had this much fun with a singleplayer open world game in a long time so I'll give it that. The story and side quests alone are very much worth experiencing.

Oh if Bloomberg says it then it must be true.

The main reason it was pulled was because CDPR offered everyone refunds without consulting with Sony first. Anthem and Fallout 76 were both in worse states when they released.

shh that's not the narrative we're pushing!

you're right. 2077 isn't off the store cause of bugs/crashes. if it is...then why the hell didn't sony do anything for games like anthem, no man's sky, etc? CDPR fucked with Sony's rules so Sony pulled the game. CDPR could turn the game into the best game of all time and it still won't matter. Sony aren't waiting for the game quality to improve before putting it back on the store. It's once they've sorted shit out with CDPR regarding refunds.

I'm not surprised. The hype for the game and the marketing was insane. It felt like there was a Cyberpunk 2077 theme for almost every single PC peripheral. You could get your whole desk covered in yellow shit.

I thought the game was good, not revolutionary by any means. But fine enough to enjoy a bit here and there and complete. Put 50ish hours in, beat it, and uninstalled it.

Even with all the C bugs I experienced, I felt like it was one of my favorite games last year. Pretty wild people are defending it though saying it's revolutionary and ambitious. I feel like they played a different game.

How’s that Hyperbole™️ Cereal taste?

Hell yeah bois. Get that witcher 4 teaser and gamers short term memory will revert back to hype mode.
Your avatar is LITERALLY the first marketing image for the game ever released.

I get it. You game on PC. Can't say I'm not jealous of that 3080 or whatever you're rockin lol

I can't believe I bought it three times though my wife was the one who ordered it for Stadia before we realized we have a data cap. I don't remember ordering it on PSN but it was there on December 10.

Despite all the many issues I still love this game so well deserved. It is the gaming version of a great album with terrible mixing.
