Definitely not. Plus is enough for me. Have no interest in 99% of games and have no time to play Epic/PS plus freebies. So nah.

But it can be popular for families with people with lots of free time.

if Sony started making good games then yeah i'd be up for it.

if it's just multiplatform games then what does it matter? just get an xbox.

This is delusion. God of War, Spider man and Death Stranding were all sold for almost half price within weeks of them coming out.

Gamepass can’t devalue Sony exclusives, yet there they are.
That certainly isn't true. I bought Spiderman in June last year from Amazon for £30. Days Gone in April for £32. Ghosts of Tsushima is currently £43.50, The Last of Us 2 £34. Never see them for nearly half price within weeks unless it bombs.

I had Gamepass. The library sucks. But I guess if youre poor you’ll take what they give you. I rather be poor and save up to a decent game rather than this all you can eat buffet style of games. Then again my friends loved the buffet.

I’m not going fishing for the old flyers because I don’t care that much. But they were all half price within less than a month after release.

Because you beat them and sold them within days of release has no bearing on thier actual cost in the long run.
As I said that's irrelevant. The demand was still strong whenever that sale you are talking about ended. They sold 10+ / 20+ million copies. I didn't have to beat them within days, I'm not that kind of gamer anyway (besides TLOU2 because I was pissed off at the story lol).

You're right that Sony drops the price fast compare to say, Nintendo, but usually it's safe in the hype window. I've been buying physical, reselling and rebuying digital their games for years. I was never burned compared to Xbox, once they are on gamepass they are worthless coasters.

Right now I'm done with Demon's Souls but I'm not worried about getting rid of it asap because I know I'll get 80% back (it's so good I feel like replaying ng+ actually).

See. The price might go down but the demand is still there when it goes up. It doesn't tank forever.

No, if every company makes subscription service and make their games exclusive on it, we will end up paying $60 every month instead of buying 4 to 6 games every year. Tell me which is cheaper.

Tbh ps plus on ps5 has a collection that nothing in game pass can touch. From god of war to blood borne to resident evil to fallout to final fantasy and more.

In a heartbeat.

I would subscribe to PS Now if they made it slightly better. It just isn't that great of a deal at the moment, especially if you don't have good enough internet to stream PS3 titles. Limits your choices drastically.

Sony it's not going to do something like MS gamepass because it's not losing gen after gen. Doesn't need to do that. I'd like somenthing like that in a playstation? Sure. But ain't going to happen in the near future with Sony just dominating easy.

I sometimes consider for this gen a Xbox. I played de PS3/x360 gen entirely on a Xbox360. But nowadays i don't know man. PS have so many good games.

I woukd jump on this in a heartbeat, $30 a month for every first party game on release date for both consoles for $30 per month is a good deal to me. Plus bonus 3rd party stuff......

I voted no, but I'm not against the GamePass concept. It's just not for me. I play games for quite long and rarely need new ones, so a frequently changing selection of 'free' games to play would be wasted on me. And when I do get new games, I much prefer to buy them.

I do have PS+ though, although mainly for the cloud and online access.

Nope, never will. Xbox's game pass seems to mostly be AAA games that are years old that I've already played. It doesn't have much value to me at all. I can't see Sonys being different.

In 3-4 years Gamepass will be a lot more expensive. All those studio acquisitions aren't going to pay for themselves.

I like to own what I buy anyway (which is why I prefer GOG over Steam for example), so even if Sony makes something similar I still wouldn't care.

People into "traditional payment models"... Have you not seen what has happened to music, TV, and movies? I'm 41 and for most of my life I had to use "traditional payment models". I had access to less music, less TV, less games, and paid more. Couldn't take risks into stuff I wasn't sure I would like.

Since given that gamepass does not exclude the direct purchase of standalone titles but rather gives you an additional discount, it is clear that those who voted "against" do so for a variety of reasons that they are anything but rational. A service like gamepass on PS would pay off in the same way it is doing gamepass, which is incredibly well. The rest is fanboy talk

No, I actually don’t really care about first party PlayStation exclusives.

My favorite PS exclusives have always been Japanese third party titles like Bloodborne. And that’s what’s drawn me to PS.

there’s not enough of those to justify a game pass for me.

I can confirm that, most third party games have been on gamepass as well, but on PS+ you have them while on gamepass you loose them. FF15 on gamepass is expiring soon while on PS+ I can play it whenever I want to.

First party games stay on gamepass, but the MS first party output is, well... negligible as everyone should know by now.
Honestly, it's not a good deal at all.
Not a fan of these subscription models.

It's called PS Now. Though they should be adding much more to it.

PS Now = UK Netflix
Gamepass = US Netflix

Though the Gamepass is now split between Gamepass PC, Gamepass Ultimate, GAmepass Xbox etc; and is confusing now :/

Both are pretty good deals, though I think GamePAss has more even though im a ps4 guy

no i don't need multiple service with 95% of same content (even more if locked to less platform)
and when it comes to service i don't count on them to make it good
with sony/nintendo i will stick to buy the games.

That's one of the things I hate about Gamepass. If the game has been there for awhile, don't bother downloading it unless it's by MS because you don't know when it's going to leave. I don't like rushing so that's why I never use it and I buy the game on sale with DLC.

If you stack PS plus for cheap then you know you have 2/3 years to finish those games from the collection + monthly games.

Only if they make it like Microsoft.

DayOne games of big exclusive
That is not an argument when you have not released a single notable game in the whole generation... MS does not do a sacrifice by putting games on their service if they won't sell that much to begin with.

Also games remain "day and date" only one day, that argument falls flat pretty fast after the release. While we are at it, the most played games on the service are bargain bin titles.

The rhetoric about the "value" and "viability" of this kind of service has been broken since MS released GamePass, you guys are so excited to buy anything Phil says that you can't think straight. Most of the games on the service must be worth like 10 - 20$ if you buy them at this time, few people will play that many games, you may as well buy the one(s) that interest you and play that until you want to move on to something else.

I have kids, the game we play the most at home is Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed, we spent months on Overcooking 1 & 2 -- from 2012 on PC @ 4K!! Paying for a service that rotates games in and out like that does me no good. The older kids spend their time on games they play for months (CoD, Fall Guy, Fortnite, sports, whatever). When the kids aren't there I play "adult" games like (recent/semi recent games I played through) TLoU2, God of War, Wipeout, the Uncharted games, Doom 2016, Far Cry 3 & 4, Demon's Soul, FF VIIr).

There are a lot of people for who it's not worth it, add to this that the main target audience for the service is people who buy xboxes... I mean, I see people getting this for day and date Sony or Nintendo exclusives, but for MS games? There are reasons why people buy Sony and Nintendo consoles (especially Nintendo lately). This won't change until MS starts delivering the goods on a regular basis (not one or two notable exclusives, they need to rebuild their name as a publisher).

Yes. It would be great not having to plan whether I should buy this or that console and instead just stream the game when an exclusive I like is released.

Sure

But this let Microsoft be the best multimedia service offering, with the GamePass.
And if Sony doesn't care, then they should just go on, and continue to release their big AAA IP at even 80$ for a standard DayOne edition.
And let Microsoft do the Game service as they wish.

The only reason I haven't gone for Xbox GamePass is that I'm waiting for Playstation to make their move in terms of exclusive titles. I don't want to be paying two monthly fees for two different consoles, so if Sony doesn't come up with the goods I'll go Xbox and if I go Xbox (as I've said many times before) it really makes zero sense not to get Game Pass unless you've hand on heart played ALL the games or have zero interest in any of them.

To be clear, "getting GamePass" doesn't necessarily mean having it forever. Could get it for a few months, play a bunch of games and then unsubscribe.

No. Right now I have a large backlog of games as it is. I think paying for a service I won't use often if at all is a waste of money. I play and beat the games I especially go after.

I usually invest a lot of hours in each of those games, and I don't have the urge to be playing new stuff every week. I don't always buy day one, and some games I do I may end up selling/trading them if I don't like them much. I may buy some games on sales. I like to own my stuff, the only digital games I buy is those that are already very cheap and I had a strong interest in them and don't mine not having the disc.

I voted no, I'm against the model in general in gaming as it does nothing for me for a couple of reasons.

First I'm a collector and very hardcore gamer, not a casual pleb looking to play something just to kill time. I have a backlog I will never crack a portion of, so why would I care about playing something I wouldn't normally play. I play almost every genre of game and know what I like, so I buy it right away if playing day 1 is a need, or I wait for a 40-50% off sale.

Second, the discount on titles doesn't matter for the same reason. I don't like digital, I move around quite a bit and I'm not always going to have fantastic internet, and these companies can just as easily remove something from their store and I will never have access again. Not an issue when I can insert my disc, cartridge, vmu, whatever.

This service is designed for someone like my nephew who only gets a few games a year, and he still barely touched it (In regards to Gamepass), it's designed for folks who game but don't really care about games enough to buy them. I've always argued that games aren't meant for everyone, they are expensive and are a luxury item. Services like this, whether you like it or not have the potential to dilute the marketplace more then it already is thanks to the sheer volume of mobile trash that has infested the world

Sony already does "GamePass" please stop acting like MS invented anything here.

Until they have day and date first party games and a better overall selection, at your insistence, let's call it lamepass with a kudos to sony for "inventing" gamepass.

I was trying to think of a name if they did launch a real gamepass competitor......let's see

Playstation Pass
PS Pass
Playstation Plus Elite
Sony Pass (maybe include some movies)
Playstation World
Playstation Playland
Playstation Playpass
Sony Playpass

No, I wouldn't. And at that point I would probably quit gaming. Because subscriptions, will in fact change the way sony would make their games.

Gamepass is not a moneymaker right now and that's the reality. They're playing long-term.

You're not going to get huge budget single-player only games fully completed at launch under a subscription service. it's simply not sustainable.

No... For me i think that other recent thread holds: it's just not something I'm interested in. I think if i had free access to every game, I'd never enjoy, or finish, a game lol... And i prefer the permanence of buying a game outright to just having it loaned to be. I'll always own metal gear solid 4 and nobody can take that away from me, for instance. And by this point there is barely a single pc game out there that i would want that i don't have on gog or steam.

Sure, whoever thought of adding power windows to cars invented cars.

You seriously remind me of people I used to know in high school, but hopefully they grew out of calling names.

These services are all more or less lame, we can argue all day about the merits of each services libraries (PSNow has over twice as many games as gamepass, it has many Sony exclusives, PS2 games, a couple of PS3 games can be streamed on it as well).

But I get your point, I'll run out tomorrow and buy myself an xbox, any xbox I can find and get gamepass and play all these magnificent day and date MS exclusives then I'll do like apparently everyone on the service does and use gamepass as a way to play Minecraft.

Someone is a little sensitive. I dont recall calling anyone any names here, so not sure where thats coming from.

I also don't remember saying they invented the idea of renting games, however in my and most people's eyes, its the first one that is at this level. Don't hear too many people talking about ITV and it was out far before netflix.

If you are going to argue that psnow has anywhere near the same lineup as gamepass,
you are a bit lost, and you won't find many here that back up that claim. I could also care less if you go out and buy an xbox or gamepass. Just know that the vast majority of people who have gamepass, think its a very good value.

Good quote from Batiman in the gamepass thread:

"I used to hate on gamepass until I got it. Now I’m enjoying so many types of games I never would’ve tried. Some of my favourite this gen. It’s too good to be true good. For me at least"

Nope, most likely anyways. I buy most Sony games, and indeed, most games I have interest in. I definitely have well over 100 games in my collection that I have not touched and another 15ish I can think of that I will buy this year (it will be more I am certain). I just don't need more options.

I am not against the idea of one and I can see where it would be cool, I almost bought Battlefield 1 today for 83 cents (not a typo used @ gamestop +shipping would have been ~5$) and games like that, if it is on it, would be nice. But again, so many games. I beat Legrand Legacy yesterday, when I finish typing this I will see about finishing FFVIIR tonight, and if I do maybe finishing Gurumin tomorrow before moving back to the 4-5 other games I am playing but not near the end of...or starting another new game (CoD WW2 SP or GreedFall probably).

I do think Sony will be forced to offer one eventually as gamepass continues to grow and the ms studios start to deliver more aaa titles. They probably have a plan in place already and just haven't decided yet if they want to use it, considering how well the traditional model has worked for them so far.

We got all kinds of subscriptions and game pass is the future so whatever you want to call it PlayStation all access, ps + etc. somebody at Sony is definitely thinking about game pass.

IntentionalPun

Ask me about my wife's perfect butthole
What a stupid excuse for a gamepass thread... Sony had psnow for who knows hiw long before MS even had the idea of such a service.
Eh.. PSNow didn't become a real GamePass competitor until they added downloads, a year+ after GamePass debuted.

It's totally fair to point out they have a similar service now, and have for years (+ streaming hardly anyone uses lol), but they weren't really first to the subscription download service.

XBL Games With Gold was really the first.. and PSN+ came like 3 years later.

I would rather wait for shovelware to go be given away through PSplus and wait for discounts on games I’m actually interested.

At the end of 7 years, Gamepass bill will run up to what? 800$? I would have to be out of my mind.
At 40 bucks a game (a very generous estimate that assumes you dont y day one ever) that's 20 games for 800 over 7 years.
Its ironic that your negative statement proves the amazing value of gamepass. Arguably you would have to be out of your mind to pay 800 or 7 years for only 20 games.
The shovelware comments are the best though : doom eternal , such low quality indie trash, am I right ?

Sorry i come from the generation that were the first to see gaming emerge, i don't find paying for games as glorified rentals remotely appealing no matter who is offering the service. It's like a race to the bottom. Why would devs make the effort to make games that can be replayed again and again with lots of content when they will be shoved on a bargain basement platter to be rapidly consumed from the one & done generation of gamers before cycled out for the next wave of games shoved on there.

Probably great if you are a kid with not much money or poor in general and can't afford to keep up on new releases at full price.
