First Gears can be a little rough just due to lack of variety in enemy types and locations but its not a long game at all. 2 and 3 still hold up extremely well imo. Especially 3.

I believe so, trilogy is better than the two new games. I believe that first one is Remastered and those 2 other run in enhanced mode through BC, so that means like at least 1080p resolution for XSS, tho no HDR there.
Cuphead is not on GP? Hmm very strange. So if you like indies, I would recommend Kona, little atmospheric "walking game", forementioned Observation, The Tour...oh (that's excellent game), What Remains of Edith Finch, Blair Witch, Oxenfree, Tetris Effect, Guacamelle 2, Katana Zero...
Also I forgot that Metro Last Light Redux, Dishonored 2, Doom Eternal is on GamePass, if you haven't played those.

Only the first game got remastered. Some scoff at that version but unless you are a purist I think the remake is more than fine. 2 and 3 are only available via BC but hold up quite well and got some BC enhancements.

I cant believe i start a generation with a xbox console but i couldnt refuse the value proposition of the series console. I went back and fort between s and x since both are heavily available in where i live. (I live in istanbul and turkey is predominantly a playstation country)
I know later on i will buy a ps5 since i am invested in ps ecosystem and 1st party games thats why i went with series s.
First thing i did was to subscribe to gamepass.
What are the hidden gems i may miss?

i am really suprised how small the system actually is. i mean the pictures don't do it justice. it is like a very thick book.

If you like indie games than I would try these (all on GP, but, mind you, most of them are on PS4):
Carrion, Moonlighter, West of Dead, What Remains of Edith Finch, Deep Rock Galactic, Journey to the Savage Planet, Void Bastards, Battle Chasers, Children of Morta (amazing game, IMO), Indivisible, Spiritfarer, Oxenfree, Undermine. I really enjoyed playing all of these.
Greedfall is a pretty good RPG that takes a lot inspiration from Dragon Age: Inquisition.
I had a blast with Gears Tactics which is game inspired by X-Com. Story kind of makes better sense if you have played all the main Gears games. Also, I think Gears games hold up pretty ok. Obviously, a bit dated, but are still fun and look good.

It's like a 40% + difference in pixels and higher shadow quality on top. That's far bigger than the gap between the machines on paper, bodes well for Xbox going forward.

a lot of really great games on that list. Quantum Break, Ori WotW and Gears 5, especially the Hivebusters DLC are some of my favorite games from last gen. I absolutely loved We happy few but I'm one of about 3 people that liked the game.
Anyway welcome to the Xbox universe. You've got a great time ahead of you with Series S and Game Pass.

Probably not a bug, just the weight of running at 30% higher res. Obviously, they went 1800p (with reduced shadows) on PS5 because most of the levels would have had drops at 4k with high shadows. Whereas Xbox had the issue just in the one area so they rolled with it.
However, it also indicates that PS5 probably could have gone higher res in most areas, maybe something odd like 2000p or something, since there is overhead at 1800p in the heaviest scene. People need to except that these systems are going to produce nearly indistinguishable results from each other 95% of the time.

So, I needed to take a break from Immortals: Fenyx Rising and I decided to play Haven a bit (I tried the demo before, but only for a few minutes). It's also XS optimised and looks good for the type of game it wants to be, but there are occasional framerate drops in quality mode, but nothing game breaking (usually it happens when you arrive at a new island and so on). I don't know exactly why, but I kind of like the game. It is a super light and cheesy game with elements of exploration, Daft Punk type soundtrack, JRPG combat and two main characters and you spend a lot of time listening to them talk, make fun of each other, eat, drink and fuck. You know, the works. It's not really challenging and there is not that much variety to gameplay, but I kind of want to know how it ends. I guess I like these silly characters.

I'm making great progress on Ori. All skills and abilities have been acquired as well as all health orbs. I'm missing 1 energy orb but I can't find it for the life of me. I'm about to enter the volcano.
I'm not finding the game to be that challenging but I'm also playing on easy difficulty. Maybe all that practice I got by playing and beating Celeste a couple of years back is paying off. Now that was an extremely hard and unforgiving game.
Edit: Found the last energy orb. It was inside the volcano lol.

I haven't touched my xbox in a while due to wow classic, but that's finally coming to a close. So I booted up my stone age xbox one and downloaded Ori and the Will of the Wisps. Can't wait to catch up on the games I haven't played. Also, I never played through Alan Wake, so that's probably a go right after I finish Ori. I'll likely be getting Civ 6 here soon too, but that will be more for when the tv is already in use. I like the games that are set to release in 2021. Tunic, yes please.

My previous post was as premature as... well you guys know. I thought I had longer to go but I just finished Ori and The Blind Forest. Honestly the Ginzo tree escape was the hardest part for me, the ending was a piece of cake. I ended up with 920 out of 1250 achievements points.
What else can I say, I absolutely loved the game. It had the right amount of challenge, a very heartfelt story, tight gameplay and gorgeous visuals. I can't wait to get started with Ori and The Will of the Wisps tomorrow. Freaking Microsoft dropping a huge batch of games on Game Pass tomorrow that I want to play as well smh.
