I played it feverishly over the last couple of weeks.

I reached the storyline point where Deacon meets Sarah. Writing isn't strongest suit of this game, but the encounter didn't make any sense. After the nice build up it was a real anti climax. I did few more missions, but game is turning into a real chore. :(

Sara had to give up on pursuing Deek because it was eating her consciousness that it was her experiment that led to the outbreak. She wanted to do whatever it took to fix the problem and thus had to let go of her real identity and tag along with that crater lake camp folks. You see her finally finding her way back with Deek and realizing she can do both!

Awesome, i will tell you this the game's story can take it's time for you to see real progress. Give it some time, get used to the structure of the game and do your quests with the camps, upgrade your bike(very very important), find those nero injections to upgrade health, stamina and focus and actively unlock the skills tree. I enjoyed every single second in the world all the way till the platinum on the PS5.
Yeah Im already at the last camp
met up with Sarah, what a let down
and I enjoy it a lot :) Will go for the Platinum for sure.

I hit the same wall I hit with RDR2 on this game. The open word is great, the characters are great, the zombie/horde engine is top notch...
But, I start to dread the "Drive 5 miles here, do something, then drive 5 miles back and talk to someone".
I also feel you get upgraded very slowly.

Just finished my first play through (was in a pile of games I have that have been waiting on a ps5 turning up)

One of the best games of the last generation got me. (Never played it unpatched on a PS4, but aware there were some real show stoppers in there).

played at my own pace and explored, while dipping in and out of the story (my god are hordes scary when you can barely run 10 yards, before just about coughing up a lung 😂😬🙈). The story was cool and took its time getting going and finding it’s beats. Although some of the sections felt purely like padding. I did like how some major parts were down played and I actually felt engaged on deacons quest

all in about 60 hours of sheer pleasure (and some terror) to roll to the platinum and I don’t chase trophies at all anymore. (Was more an achievements thing anyway). Have left 1 horde alive, not sure I have the heart to butcher those poor freakers 😁😂

overall really a monster of a game and if they follow the O’Brien ending and maybe throw in some bigger hordes and a little city action. Well that has real potential 🤔😎

Fuck the reviewers, this game was a lot better than they said. Would play a sequel
one of the reviewer problem is polish overall take too much place in the final note mix in current era.
it must be separated with a follow up on it (making journalist job even more relevant) now that later patches are near always part of the experience and can fix this part

I swear you guys have no taste. This is a fine game but it's one case where it is less than sum of it's parts... Also writing is terrible, story is terrible, open world is grind until many hours in.
Again. I will happily replay it on ps5 but it's no gem and not a great game

Taste is subjective, and I think I have great taste even if the taste is acquired. Play whatever you want that makes you happy!

That is the biggest error in game's plot. Yet it have a decente writing. And the game ending really build up things to a possible Days Gone 2.

Recently got a PS4 Pro, tried to play the game for the 5th time, but nope

Really tried to love it, but I cant. Cant pass the 3-4h mark. It feels like Far Cry on a bike, just as much uninspired.

Initial cutscene was pretty good: amazing graphics, shit going down around you, emotional interactions, good set up for a story.

Then, timeskip and game starts: who is this woman dying? Leon is the one who did it? Who the fuck is Leon?

Games usually make you discover things ingame along with the MC so you can have a natural connection with him.

But here I'm controlling a MC that knows way more than I know. I dont give a damn about the woman dying, about Leon, about Boozer getting seriously hurt 30 min in ....

From there on, its chores galore. Pacing is horrible.

Copeland's main mission feels like a mid game sidequest, not something that the game should throw at you 1h in to keep you invested.

"Go there and kill some bandits for me, would ya? Since you killed Leon"

Maybe it gets good eventually, but for me 4h is enough. Didnt want to waste any more time with it.

That's my personal opinion of course, I have some friends that loved the game.

It's sad that I'm not able to enjoy it as much as you guys do, honestly. But to me, its mediocre.

Yea, I thought they would have the MC be a bigger part of the story and characters. Like would have been cool if they really went all sons of anarchy with other MC's that survived which had connections to the MC brotherhood. I think more MC story connections, and motorcycle combat needs to be explored.

The first 10 or so hours is basically survival/horror or RE1-3, it takes a long time before it becomes a shooty bang bang game or RE post 3.

Great game , hope there is a second part.

Game is fun...specially when you get most of weapons ,traps and items to fight a horde.

The first time you find a horde is shocking specially if they detect you.

Story is fine but a little slow at begining , it gets better once you progress but it keeps being a classic story ( good vs evil) but I like more these than a TLOU2 deep, dark, deppresing story.

I really disagree here, overall the story and characters were dull and predictable but this part was easily my favorite because it's the only time the story surprised me. It's not at all what you expect and it leads to an interesting dynamic between the two.

Yeah. It made a little bit more sense later as I progressed from that point. Now, I finished the story line. Still great , but also flawed game. It just couldn't manage to sustain its length in relation to its pace. There were two points in the game where I felt that it was becoming a chore, and almost gave up. Well. I am glad that I didn't. Very memorable experience. Hoping for the sequel.

I'm sure its been said before but the 1st part of the game is really rough. My son looked at me and said, "Is this a PS3 game?".

I think a lot of games these days are running into this issue. The lengthy open world game design is not really compatible with a tight well told story, everything has to be like butter spread too thin over toast or whatever that Bilbo quote was. Valhalla is only the most recent example of a story that just cant be sustained over so many hours. Im kinda torn on this issue because I do like getting a lot of gaming hours for my dollar, but unless you have a stable of top tier writers these game stories just cant keep up.

Just finished the game on PS5 truly a gem, the main character almost ruined the experience, his attitude really gets old and almost made me skip the cutscenes it was really bad, other than that the game is great

Really enjoying it so far. The gore is very basic though, even explosions barely do anything.

Also, this game isn't Dead Rising that's for sure hah. (thank goodness)

Yeah.

I’m interested to see if they’ll go the Resistance FOM route for the sequel.

I still love this game but I think its a bit too big for its own good. I am kinda going through the motions though some late missions are really good such as the

Anarchist mines, and the cloverdale lab

There is a point where the story moves slow, it was near the end of the second area. missions were drip feeded each time I left a camp, so I had to turn back.

I also feel the game becomes far too easy. Normal is already kinda easy once you unlock your first stuff, but the final camps are pushing it. Those weapons are way too good. Before that Hordes took serious planning. I did about 10% of them and I laid down mines, planned an escape route towards a funnel and stocked up resources for explosives. Straight shooting was really last resort. But the Chicago chopper, with the range perks I unlocked, seems to one shot every freak with 300 bullets in the mag? Ridiculous. You can pretty much throw a few nades and spray.

Why? What did they have to pick on in Days Gone? what was their beef?
Straight gruff white male protagonist with a "don't kill women" code
No black zombies even if the game has 2 different explananations for that
Cheesy sexual joke with his wife that it's explained in the game (basically his wife make fun of the joke itself but retarded journalist are too stupid to understand)
How boozer look, no matter how much heart and how likeable the characters really is
Some other stupid shit from stupid ass woke journalists...

I'm so happy to see more positive comments for Days Gone. There's a lot of things I really enjoyed

- Dynamic events
- Weapons (like the Chicago chopper)
- AI, sometimes you get bears or wolves fighting with freakers
- Hordes, it's really fun taking them out especially the cave horde 😍 and the horde at the mill in the campaign
- Visuals, it's one of the most stunning games
- The realistic bike and gas mechanic

I mentioned earlier in this thread that I'd just started this game on PS5... well now I've finished it. I'd give it an excellent four stars out of five.

Final thoughts:

-It is long but the only part I found 'slow' was the initial opening 2-3 hours. Throughout the rest of the game it's a steady grind to unlock the better abilities and eqpt but you're made aware of what's on offer from merchants and the skill tree, and that knowledge keeps you going as all the unlocks are pretty useful. By the game's end you are transformed into a veritable killing machine.

-The emergent gameplay, particularly around hordes, is excellent. Leads to lots of chaotic moments, escapes, and explosions, which are unique to your playthrough. Dead bodies dont insta-vanish like in most games, so you'll be able to survey the slaughter once you're done!

-It has a healthy 'horde hunting' end game after the main storyline finishes, but the one character you expect to be hanging out in your cabin or visitable somewhere at Diamond Lake camp is nowhere to be seen - vanished. A strange choice on the part of the devs, and completely counter to the motivation that's driven Deek for the past god knows how many hours.

-Playing this on PS5, with patches and smooth frame rates doubtless improves the experience over those that played this last gen.

I'm not going to say it's an amazing game but it's pretty damn good. The beginning is awful though, far too drawn out and doesn't really relate much to the rest. A lot of those beginning quests are trying to get you used to mechanics that you really don't need to get used to, but after that the game settles into a good rhythm.

I saw it on the PlayStation Plus Collection last month so figured I'd give it a go after finishing Miles Morales. A few days ago, I finished it. It's a big buggy in parts but I really enjoyed it! Playing on PS5 at 60 FPS was great, too. It's a beautiful game. Regarding a sequel, I'd probably leave it and have the team work on something new. I liked how it ended.

So, because of the mediocre reviews (for a Sony 1st party game, that is) I didn't play it until recently. But then I got my PS5 and the access to that game via the PS Collection.

Now, this game is far from perfect. The gunplay could be better. The enemies could be better, as in: more intelligent, and compared to let's say Far Cry 4 there's just a very limited number of wild life creatures. And a couple more Zombie varieties wouldn't have hurt, either. Oh, and especially some of the flashbacks can be very annoying since you have to walk all the time (can't switch to running).

BUT. Besides all that, I fell in love with this world. So much indeed that I played it two times in a row, which is a very rare thing for me to do. In fact, I managed to get my very first and only Platinum trophy ever.

So, yes, it's a gem of a game and I really hope to get a sequel eventually.

The criticism about the joke annoys the shit out of me. When I didn't play the game yet I thought it was a dumb piece of writing. But it really isn't as much later you get the reasoning behind it:

For people dismissing the game because of it, here is how it goes:

So when they marry she says ride me as much as you ride your bike and you think.. yeah.. ok. But she immediately laughs about it.

Much later you get another flashback where he proposes. Then she names one condition; she doesn't want a typical biker marriage with stupid shit like ride me as much your bike.

She then decides to say it herself. It kind of falls into place and its nothing awkward really.

what's up with people calling AAA with billion dollar funds "overlooked"?
it's already the second time i see it in 2 days, first one was ghost of tsushima.
that's not what overlooked and underestimaed means.

This is really one of my favorite games I've played. Still not finished and playing it now on PS5 is heaven. Some of the things i like to see in Days Gone 2:

- Co-op singleplayer mode
- Much bigger world
- More random civilians on the streets
- Craft your own weapons?
- Craft your own vehicles (bikes), or repair other vehicles in the world.
- Setting up small camps (or for a DayZ like mode)

I really like to see some sort of DayZ multiplayer mode with base building.

Played it after about a year. So.. fully patched. My experience was awesome but I admit that I'm THE targeted audience!

I like open worlds, I like zombies... I like third person shooters... which is basically Days Gone.

My gripes with the game:

- shooting is kind of horrible. Luckly, I begun as a melee guy, so much of the problems that people and reviewers went htrough... I just didn't experience
- not many bugs, but one in particular was "spectacular": I was about to make my last stand against an horde that lives in train tracks... well.. when they started to attack me everthihing glitched, the horde disappeared, and I even got a trophy for "first horde kill"
- grind was a little bit too much, so new guns and new stuff for your bike felt a little bit too late

Otherwise, great game. Loads and loads of fun!

You should keep playing to see the final ending for how it sets up the sequel. One last meeting with O’Brien.

This is moving up to be the best Sony open world game next to Ghost of Tsushima. I am close to the end and am liking it better than Horizon for example.

Days Gone does a lot of things better. The camps, they never take more than 5 minutes to clear. Like Ghost, you can obliterate the opposition how you see fit. Pure stealth, Residue bolts, gung ho shooting, lure them in traps, melee.. etc. Hell, do it at night and chances are freakers will close in on the noise and kill them for you... try an attractor if a group is close by. The day night cycle is another thing, both have pros and cons. At night you are harder to detect but noises attract more freakers. I also think, but not sure, that at night your bike won't be totaled by a sniper squad.

The bike gameplay is perfect. I upgraded it since Copeland and its maxed out now. Crossing around feels great, esp, when it rains. Huge ass gas tank too. Nitrous only does a bit, I guess its handy for ramps to reach hidden upgrades.

If I have to name some cons, then its that DG starts off kinda weak, and its too big. There are too many missions, I felt like errand boy at times, because the game does it a few times too many. Like, huge late game spoiler

You finally meet someone important, who then sends you on half a dozen of errands in return. The ones where you are both going are very good though, just omit the others.. game would be big enough

I think the gunplay is servicable. But just not before you upgrade it. This feels artificial and makes no sense considering Deacon's background. When you upgrade the range perks I think its really solid. Sniping with focus feels good. The crossbow is also very weak until you get a better one, the perk and the alternative arrows. I prefer TLOU2's Bow gameplay though. The final weapons are far too good, they trivialize all encounters, esp combined with focus).

VA is hit and miss. Deacon's mumbling sounded awkward at first but he grew on me. O'Brian and Skizzo and very solid though. Rikki and Iron Mike are good as well (the latter being good ol' Crispin Freeman).

White protagonist + straight marriage + his wife wants him to ride her like he rides his bikes.
Must be a minority complaining about any of those things. I haven't seen such silly complaints.

I thought this game was a solid 7/10. It starts off slow gets really good for a while but gradually gets repetitive. It's maybe too long with too many samey missions. I liked the story and the characters and am eager to see more. I want to see more variety in everything and less padding. The challenge mode is good but I'd like to see better stuff to unlock in it.
