Below is shamelessly stolen and adjusted from hostile_18's PS5 OP.

Thought this would be a good topic as the fact we are hardcore gamers has nothing to do with whether we have received faulty units or not so we should get a fairly accurate idea of the chances of getting a within spec Xbox Series X anytime soon. Also we will get an idea if the failure rate is higher than other similar complex electronic devices.

By faulty include repeated ssd repair loop or format, coil whine/excessive fan noise at playing distance, failure to power on, unsolicited shut down, cosmetic damage, controller not charging, burnt/discoloured outer casing, disc grinding/rejection etc.

Software crashes I'd ignore unless you believe there specific to your faulty unit rather than universal, as that to some extent is just the nature of any early software launch

Only fault i've had with mine is during Gears 5 it will randomly shut off completely. Doesn't do it with any other game and I'm pretty sure it's not overheating.

I bought one the other day, just randomly found it in store. The disc drive scratched my gears of war 4 disc, it was loud and sounded like it was breaking apart in there at first. luckily I put no 360 or OG games in the drive. I returned it, and ended up telling myself i'll just keep playing games on OG xbox and 360, and play the microsoft exclusives in the future on PC. Xbox series X just feels exactly like how the Xbox one installed and updated games IE slow as fuck. It's basically just a gimped PC.

Thankfully I only bought like 10 xbox one games for super cheap prior to this.

Lord of Edge.
In the words of geordiemp geordiemp (or whatever). TRUE XBOX FANS will never speak ill of their most beloved 12TF Breakfast eating monster! Any REAL Xbox fan who says their Xbox is faulty is clearly a Nintendo fan that is just spreading FUD.

My Xbox Series X would not power on for a while. I'd press the power button and the light came on for about 5 seconds and then nothing.. Luckily it fixed itself as it started working fine the next day. The real issue is the beta software. Lots of crashes here and there and some features like quick resume don't always work.

Got a good one and put it to the test. Turn it on every day at least to do daily quests. Got 145 hours logged in Cyberpunk 2077 alone. (Many hours logged just letting it sit idle which I am trying to work on not doing anymore!) Even disc drive is quiet.

I will say it was pretty much the quietest console (among the ones with fans of course) I’ve ever had, with the disc drive idle. I just would worry about dust over time, but maybe it’s easy enough to open and clean, dunno.

I had crashes with the new COD single player where the game would shut the console down but it’s been patched and runs perfect now

quick resume doesnt work on valhalla because of ubisofts shitty cloud saves

yeah Ubisoft games are really fucking buggy when using quick resume. I know someone who lost like an hour of gameplay in Immortals becasue it tries to sync online but if you use quick resume it is not well enough coded to reconnect... even older games that aren't made with it in mind deal better with quick resume.

never underestimate the inability of third party developers to support a console feature.

Early days, only about 1/10th of the votes of the ps5 equivalent thread so far.

But interestingly the fault percentage seems to be roughly the same (as of writing).

Mine runs absolutely flawlessly, I think it crashed to desktop once in over two months maybe. There were a few issues with Quick Resume at launch but now it seems to be working really well too. External storage is fine too.

Mine's perfect. It's dead silent, even the disc drive is super quiet. I've had only one crash to dash and that was after over 150 hours in FO3. CTDs in Fallout are features not bugs; I used to get multiple crashes an hour back in the 360 days.

I have noticed since the latest Valhalla patch that the game has been squirrely. Try to save sometimes and it says it can't connect to Ubi servers or freezing when I try to save and all the opals I had saved up disappeared. 🤷‍♀️

I worry about dust too, but P Panajev2001a had a really smart suggestion; when you're not using it, cover the top. The only problem with that is I'm using it almost 24/7. I even sleep with my TV streaming so my poor Xbox never gets to sleep.

My gamepad désynchronise sometimes.
The real problem is that I need to hard reboot the console when it happens.
Because no controllers are working , even the wired ones.
It’s like this since 3 days.
Hope it will get patched soon.

QR is working now for me after the last patch but at the price of NEW save issues. I'm loving the game but it does seem to be pretty buggy.

Yes. Mine has no games.

I JOKE.

In all seriousness, thankfully mine's been flawless, apart from a very minor thing. Sometimes after using quick resume (coming from energy saving mode), I see a little noise here and there when the screen's black. Tiny white dots.

Silent console, silent drive. Only have had couple crashes on ufc 4 specifically. No idea what causes it.

I have both the X and S, had no notable issues with either. X had crashes in specific situations in certain games (a certain sort of event often crashing in DIRT 5, the first supernatural area in Valhalla having hard crashes before the first big patch, etc.), but the console has been near flawless for me.

No hardware issues whatsoever. It's amazingly quiet. Have had plenty of little software issues though. Microsoft Rewards app crashes constantly. Quick Resume mostly just works, but on three different occasions all of my quick resumes just stopped working and I had to boot fresh. There was also this weird point about a week after I got the Xbox where all my games on external drives weren't showing up (They did show up as soon as I plugged them in, and worked for the first week). Two days later they all re-appeared. Super weird. All in all I'm very satisfied, but you can tell the software came in a little too hot.....

I might have just had bad luck, but yeah I guess I thought about it and don't really need an One/Series console. I hope yours is ok, but I tend to check discs a lot so I wonder if all the series X drives will put scratches on the discs over time.

I cover all my retro consoles when not in use, though I don't bother with current consoles that I know i'll just end up upgrading anyways lol.

I just checked out my discs and I've got 58 hrs in on Valhalla and luckily NO scratches. I have a little scratch on FO3, (the only other game I played on disc) but I'm going to guess it had it before since I had well over 500hrs on that disc and lot of disc drive problems with my 360. I actually expected the Fallout disc to have a ton of scratches so I'm feeling pretty lucky on that score.

I only had one issue where COD: Black Ops Cold War would shut off my Series S and that's it. Other than that no real issue.

No issues here and complete silence no matter what I throw at it.

Like it so much I keep exchanging my PS5 console to make the Series X look even better 😘
