Hitman 3 Progression detail and its some fun Bullshit for PC players (Full Launch Guide)

Launch Guide can be found here and includes details on Progression (pretty much as expected via a IO account):

So basically, fuck PC players like myself who bought Hitman 1 and 2 (the gold editions) with all the DLC and bells and whistles only for this:

– PC (Epic): If you pre-purchase or purchase HITMAN 3 on EGS within the first 10 days of launch, you will be granted the HITMAN 1 GOTY Access Pass for no additional charge. In addition, if you own or redeemed a free copy of HITMAN – The Complete First Season on EGS when it was available for free, you will be able to download this Access Pass at any time after purchasing HITMAN 3.

Ok, thats fine, Hitman 1 levels and DLC included for free, exactly what I expected, but.....

– PC (Epic): As HITMAN 2 is not available on EGS, we have set up an 80% discount for this Access Pass for the first 14 days after HITMAN 3’s launch.

WHAT!?!?!?!?!

So let me get this straight, I didn't decide to buy H3 on EGS, I would've preferred Steam tbh, as I own both games there, I don't mind EGS at all (and I don't want this thread to dissolve into that please) but this is bullshit, its not the consumers fault that Hitman 2 isn't on EGS so why should I purchase an "Access Pass" that IOI gave players for no additional cost with Hitman 2, not only that but its 5 days from fucking launch!!

Also there ICA Electrocution phone is being cut, fair enough I guess, it was pretty OP

Don't reward this behavior or EGS money hats. Wait for the Steam launch and get it on a discount. The game will be in a better state with more content by then, too.

For fucks sake. I was looking forward to this and just assumed Hitman 1 and 2 from steam would import over. Considering IO said not to worry PC players.

Edit: wait - i'm confused. Read the link and the steam games do migrate over? Or is that just the save data? Fucking confused.

Knew there would be some bullshit with this. I own the first two on Steam. I'll wait for this to show up there.

Damn this is confusing. I have hitman 1 goty 100 percented (these are games where I do a level completely before moving on, poppin challenges is so satisfying) I was waiting on hitman 2 since I thought I read hitman 3 came with all that. Guess I was wrong. Crazy epic hasn't licensed selling 2 yet. I'm sure they will eventually. I always wait till games are max 15 20 bucks anyways

Progress of H2 will carry over, not from H1. Progress from H1 levels inside of H2 will also carry over I believe.

If you wanted to 100% H2 I'd do that first because I think It's a one time transfer.

Not defending anything but it looks like they tried to get as much as they could.

Except, you know, not taking Epic's money in exchange for exclusivity.

Yeah, about that.

It will be true a year from now for Steam users.

Why is there no Steam launch right out of the gate? EGS handed over money for exclusive time period?

Yes. Basically, EGS hands over a big sum of money up front for exclusivity. All revenue up to that initial sum of money goes to Epic, but anything beyond that gets distributed under the standard terms. Basically, it's guaranteed revenue in exchange for timed exclusivity to EGS. I see why companies do it since there is so much uncertainty when it comes to making and selling games, but I don't have to like it as a consumer.

So the way it works

If you own Hitman 1 and 2 on Steam, you can play the levels from each game IN Hitman 3, this comes with any extra features, weapons, items and improvements from 3, and can also get all the unlocks from 1 and 2 to use in 3

If you've played 1 or 2 before and already unlocked a bunch of stuff, you can transfer your progress to 3 1 TIME and continue your progress from those games within Hitman 3 like above

I’ll go an step further and say don’t support IO till they cut their bullshit to begin with. It took them 3 games to give people a similar amount of content in Silent Assassin or Blood Money and forcing people to connect to an always online component just to use the ranking and unlock systems that we’re a basic staple in the series.

Sheit. But I think I did 100 percent Hitman 2016 within the hitman 2 shell. Without buying the second's levels. Shits so out of wack lol

So I've read more about the progression and it looks like it'll have to be a done through a web browser. It's actually not a bad idea if it works right, it's better than having to install Hitman 2 just to unlock access. Kinda crappy it has to be done at the beginning or your progression in H3 will be reset.

Not having all Hitman 3 levels on disc sucks as well. They should've released the game on 2 discs if necessary.

I don't really think there is any uncertainty though. Back when Epic first did this, sure. But now that many of the first wave of Epic exclusives have come to other platforms, and the massive sales that have come along with releasing on Steam or elsewhere, it's pretty clear that a lot of people just wait.

They would likely make more if they just released everywhere and allowed consumers to choose where they want to buy it.

I would like to think so, too, but going the guaranteed EGS cash route does enable them to release basically in an "early access" state and still claim huge launch revenue without being beaten up by users (since EGS doesn't even support reviews) too badly.

They can then spend a year polishing up the game and adding content before releasing the "Complete Edition" on Steam and come out of the gate with a much better product than they would have a year ago to a bunch of pent up demand. Not sure how much potential revenue they lose this route rather than releasing everywhere at once, but it does give them certain opportunities and basically get two launch periods with all the fanfare.

So I have Hitman 1 and 2 on Steam, so I just log into iOi account in Hitman 2, then after I buy Hitman 3 on EGS I log into the same account and gain my progress from Hitman 2 (and 1 by extension)?

edit - its done in a browser I guess, I have no idea how it knows what you own though, hyper confusing lol.

So disappointed, pre ordered today before finding this out 5 minutes later 😂.

Cancelled my order, this type of game can wait. Especially for that fuckery.

I was willing to break my personal boycott of EGS to play this game... until this news hit earlier today. I didn't like the idea of having my Hitman collection split between 2 launchers, but they said H1 and 2 purchases would carry over, so I bit the bullet and preordered H3 on EGS.

After reading this "launch guide", I immediately requested a refund.

Just confirms I'll wait a year and then pick it up for under $20 on some grey market key store. Not giving them any money directly for this bullshit.
Yep. Even $20 seems too high for this considering I'll be missing out on Elusive Targets and other seasonal activities. It's cool they got paid from Epic and I'll never hate on a studio for securing the salaries of their employees for a good amount of time, especially these days. They are free to explore platform options and sell their game wherever they see fit.

But, all it really says to me is, "We don't need your money." Instead, I'll gladly give it to Sega and KOEI Tecmo for the upcoming PC releases of the Yakuza games and Nioh 2.

They should make one of these diagram - guides on how to purchase the fucking game, seems like the need it.

There's a manager at IO who is a complete fucking retard. First there was the Complete First Season vs GOTY edition of Hitman 2016, then the incomprehensible upgrade paths for Hitman 2, now this.
I'm still not sure if I own all Hitman 2016 and 2 content on Steam, I had to read a fucking guide to import stuff into the second game.

Why is IOI so weird with their progression system? First they lock it behind online only DRM and now this. You made the progression save on your servers cause you wanted it online only, you have all the information there's no excuse for this bullshit.

Lol.

People have been asking about Hitman 1/2 Steam-EGS compatibility since they announced the game would load both into the H3 launcher. This info should have been put out months ago. Not a few days before release. People owning the games on steam but not being allowed to upgrade them because of a difference in launcher on a fucking PC is ridiculous, and is one of the many reasons people have been against EGS since the beginning. Those who want to link their games without rebuying the game are going to have to wait a year for it to come out on Steam. I wonder how many people who own them all on PC preordered and have no idea they're about to be hit with this in 5 days.

EDIT: After looking more into this, this is on IOI. Plenty of people have pointed out that IOI tracks the games you own and your progression on it's servers. They know you own the game and know of any DLC levels you bought since ownership is tied to your IOI account. If they can use the servers to bring your progression over from Hitman 2>3, there is no reason they shouldn't be able to tie it to some Legacy DLC unlock or something. This is just straight up greedy. Also, even if Epic somehow forced this dynamic as part of their H3 deal (entirely possible), it's still scummy of IOI to not tell anyone about it until 5 days before launch.
