Is there a list of upcoming ps5 games that includes the known (or suspected) dates for next gen patches?

Want to know what to save for.

Xbox Boss Phil Spencer Teases Things He’s “Incredibly Excited About” For 3 to 10 Years in The Future
I mean, really. What’s Phil going to say? “Gotta be real...I’m just not sure how things will play out for Xbox. I’m excited for the future, but not as much as I am for them Sony games.”

It‘s his job to hype, article titles like that are hilarious. I own the XsX and this doesn’t exactly make my purchase more exciting. I’d hope a Pro console is out in 3-4 years.

James Masters was brilliant as Spike, arguably my favourite TV villain.
No, no NO! The best ever English accent by an American actor HAS to be Kevin Costner in "Robin Hood!" That was a tour de force of acting prowess for sure!

🤔

There is obviously going to be an avalanche of First Party games coming with that many studios, if we get STALKER 2, Starfield and Halo Infinite this year then they are covered.

Stop sharing this stupid screenshot as I said earlier in the thread, it's totally idiot:

"Stop polluting this topic. So stupid to post such screenshot, when it is obvious that the lights are on also on series X as we can see the reflections on the car, and that the differences are due to bad HDR capture... (Just see the lightning difference few secondes after outside)."

The Geometry Transformation Engine was a smart move
I feel like we've been over this whole GE thing for a while now, but I will quote an article by redgamingtech. This has been talked about to death.

"Inplace of Mesh Shaders, Sony is using the hardware-based Geometry Engine which essentially is Sony’s version of Mesh Shader, but totally accelerated via their own hardware block.

The GPU uses Primitive Shaders to address the GPU, along they’re apparently more complicated and more advanced than the ones found in RDNA 1. These primitive shaders can issue geometry instructions a little like Mesh Shaders and offer extreme precision on the GPU. This allows extreme culling of triangles super early on in the rendering pipeline of the GPU. The GE can be left to govern itself, but to really maximize the performance out of the console you’ll want to program it.

I was told now by multiple sources that the Playstation 5’s Geometry Engine is going to be even more critical for developing titles for the PSVR2, due the nature of pushing higher frame rates for VR solutions, and back when I was first leaking information on the PS5 development kit, this was also in line with those leaks too.

The Geometry Engine functionality is part and parcel of the custom elements of RDNA 2 from Sony, and VRS can run with extreme precision on the GPU too. We’ve already seen patents for Foveated Rendering (here is one) for the PS5 and which is used for the eye-tracking of PSVR2, and this seemingly leverages the GE of the console. It specifically mentions in the patents the varying resolution of the images based upon a users gaze.

The Playstation 5’s Geometry Engine though is a double-edged sword, as to my understanding squeezing the most out of the console will be smartly using the GE of the PS5. Again, the GE can govern itself, but you’re leaving a lot of optimization on the table, and developers aren’t even close to fully using the GE to its maximum potential.

Supposedly, the Geometry Engine has been so far best shown off in the Unreal Engine 5 Lumen demo, where it was highly leveraged along with “Nanite” to control geometry."
I'm very much interested in how the PS5 CPU will be left to focus on other tasks once Devs get to grips with GE, GTE (Geometry Transformation Engine) in the PS1 was a CoProcessor that took off such calculations from the PS1 CPU.

The biggest issue with their strategy IMHO is that IIRC Phil made some claim about not losing on price or performance, only to lose on both counts, making the build up and loss so much worse. When people aggrieved at noises from their PS5's and then saying Sony cheaped out on components - as though more than a small percentage of the first 3million units are afflicted - it feels like PlayStation was also supposed to have a higher BOM too, while winning on the other criteria.

With the limited supply that Xbox has provided for XsX - compared to PS5 - you have to wonder if their XsX BOM is massive, and that supply was constrained for launch to limit the subsidy until it came down after the RDNA2 GPU releases - and offset loses with profits on the XsS.

With the hardware they released, it is pretty likely that they didn't see the PS5 design coming out as the more powerful, and are now in weird scenario of launching with hardware plans A & B, only to find they need a plan C, too, but have no way to make that happen.

The extra CUs in the XsX keep getting mentioned as being a potential leveller for high quality ML upscaling, but I came across a link the other day about UK (Bristol based) hardware/software company: Graph Core, that have been creating 2nd gen IPU (intelligence processing units), and from the video explaining how their new 1 PetaFlop/s AI slim 1U blade (4x IPUs in one chassis) scales up, works and compares to GPUs, it was interesting to see the overlap design thinking between their new IPUs and the PS5 APU design principles (from the Road to PS5), where IO latency reduction is a major factor in the AI performance they are now offering.

It is also interesting that the monstrous total of on core memory (per IPU) gives a quick calculation that puts the per core memory in the ~600KB ballpark, which feels reminiscent of SPU local store memory solution - that provided very low latency access for an SPE.

The video is well worth a look IMO, because even if it doesn't directly impact the consoles - although I would argue that it does imply the extra XsX CUs won't be ideal for real-time per frame AI upscaling, as some hoped - it could have some insight as to changes both Nvidia and AMD will be making to their GPUs if they are at risk of losing massively on scaled performance, scaled price and easy of use for ML to a new IPU solution verses GPU, and may be forced to fork their graphics technology from their AI technology to stay competitive in AI, which may impact the PC position compared to consoles in the coming years.

Bookmarked for very near future. 👍

Hopefully this thread will remain open for a few months yet. 🤔

No you are clearly defensive. Your post proves my point.

In order for someone to be defensive they have to have been attacked.

It's really hilarious.

Sony fan: PS5 has xx
Xbox fan: no it doesn't, there is no evidence that it has

Or:

Sony fan: the yy in the PS5 is custom
Xbox fan: lol, an yy has existed for ages there's nothing special about it in the PS5!

When a Sony fan then replies to correct the misinformation they are then being belittled as being defensive...

Again, in order to have a need to be defensive, someone has said or done something to warrant any kind of reaction. Telling people they shouldn't be so defensive after you said something that is being perceived as being incorrect is an act to get someone to be annoyed and react, to then mount your high horse and shout "don't be so defensive" is trollish behaviour...

How do you think we can expect any news from Sony/MS? Some times ago there were rumours about State of Play in january/february.

If Sony have any big announcements in the coming months it won't be in the form of a State of Play IMO, we still have yet see gameplay demos from God of War, Horizon Forbidden West + many others, also the heavily rumoured Metal Gear Solid 1 remake which is supposed to have some insane graphics as well, Sony love all the attention they can get so they'll likely do it in a showcase sort of event like they have done previously.

I wouldn’t expect Sony to start building any more hype until PS5 is in reasonable supply. So March maybe? Destruction Allstars is coming in Feb and Returnal is coming mid-March maybe they'll get a State of Play.

after that they can start talking about Ratchet, God of War, Gran Turismo, etc.

Honestly I think he did that to himself especially after all the things he said. I remember he told me that Demon Souls wasn't captured on a PS5 and the final product ended up being exactly like the footage we saw. Things like that.
LOL yeah I remember the days leading up to the console launches when desperate fans were claiming that "Captured on PS5" just meant that the PS5 was used as a video capture device for CGI or unattainable PC footage.

the funny thing about every "closure" of Spencer is he's always talking about the future, but this isn't 2014 anymore. He's being the leader for years now. It's another meme of "please, understand" imo.

It's just amazing. The degree at which microsoft got outmaneuvered by cerny and sony.

You know - this entire time they wanted to keep the facade up that they were no longer in competition with sony. If you can't beat em change the rules, right? But it's just so obvious they take it to heart.

Just because the XSX is currently sold out that does not mean shit. Sony clowned them with the PS5 in every single way. PS5 is the more capable system. Period. The games already released/coming in next few months look stellar.

Especially the controller. The fact that MS allowed themselves to get played like this is amazing. Astrobot is a real next gen experience. MS has currently nothing.
Astro’s Play Room being free and packed in was a stroke of genius. This game sells the Dual Sense so so well (the strong gusts of wind varying direction based on the camera position, the “frog” suit combining adaptive trigger tension and dynamic haptics as you rotate the controller, etc... amazing!!!).

I would go as far as saying you have to play through the entire game whether you like it or not (although I cannot understand how someone could dislike it) on your PS5 or with a relative or friend and their console when and if you can: it will show you what the controller can do (in a launch title no less) and what you can demand of other devs in the future.

I played some a few hours ago.

Feeling the raindrops from the controller was wild. I thought I had experienced everything in that game, then I realized I spent more time watching family play than actually playing, lol.

This is another game that's surprisingly challenging at times. This and Ori.

I personally don't think this is necessarily about "games" at all. I think it's more about the future of services etc.

https://www.gamesradar.com/au/were-...ssible-tomorrow-inside-epics-unreal-engine-5/ So much interesting information in the article, I would highly recommend giving it a read.
Sony, you see, had listened. PS5 was going to make Nanite possible. "It was three or four years ago at least when we started to talk with Mark Cerny about possibilities for the next generation," Sweeney says. Their discussion wasn't just about graphics, but about the growing realisation that storage architecture in game hardware – having to load data from a hard drive, the huge amounts of latency between mass storage and a processor – was a limiting factor in Epic's and all developers' future plans for game-making. The team at Epic received very early hardware access to the next-gen console, and the Sony collaboration has been far longer-running than the Microsoft one, Sweeney says, something which naturally influenced Epic's decision to reveal Unreal Engine 5 using PS5 instead of Xbox Series X.
"And Sony really did a fantastic job of implementing a new platform around that realisation that storage could be revolutionised," he continues. "PlayStation 5 is built not only on a huge body of flash memory, but also a very high bandwidth and low latency framework for accessing it, and for getting it to wherever you need for any type of work."
He describes how PS5 renders a texture highly efficiently, fetching it from the high-speed SSD decompressed, into video memory in the exact place it's needed. This is thanks to PS5's IO (or input-output) system, which according to Epic's VP of engineering Nick Penwarden, is "the major innovation with the next-generation console hardware. They have faster CPUs, they have faster GPUs, and that was really important to be able to achieve the visuals that we showed – but the biggest change across console generations is absolutely going to be the IO bandwidth that we're able to achieve with the SSDs that are in next-generation consoles."

Some more interesting quotes I couldn't resist sharing.
There's one crucial difference in the next generation of consoles that has helped unlock Epic's approach with Nanite: "The previous generation of consoles required you to support spinning hard disks, which means you have variable latency time, and it's not totally predictable how long it's going to take to get a piece of data. With the flash storage, you have way, way more predictability and much, much lower latency to be able to get those reads into memory."
The console manufacturers, Libreri says, were surprisingly open with listening to Epic's requests for flash storage. "Having SSDs in a console does add to the cost, so it's a big decision for them to make. But it definitely makes a massive difference to the ability to, you know, stream an open world of super-complicated geometry into a game so that the user doesn't even notice."

The second quote highlighted in bold reminds me of what RGT has been saying for a few months now about the PS5 which he heard from developers, the PS5 was designed from the beginning for massive amounts of data throughput with very low latency access.

What is it with XBOX and dark tunnels, is it to mask lower detail geometry, thereby saving those cycles and boosting FPS......Forza 7 had it's fair share of dark tunnels too...So Dirt is in company....

I think the biggest issue is the false and hyped up marketing. Any sense they get that they have more of something, they overhype to doom's day, look at all the hype for VRS, even the people hyping never cared as to the nature of the feature, that it would not necessarily boost IQ, but they used it as a marketing tool, we have it you don't, when in effect Sony's VRS is much more advanced through the geometry engine. Look at hardware raytracing, like how in heaven's name would XBOX channels have more info on PS5 hardware than neutral or professional journalists.....All the talk of no hardware RT and all those who spouted it, clearly fall into the "unprofessional, amateur hour journalist category" and that includes 8TF and below spiels, no Direct ML and the like, it was just trolling and FUD from anyone going along those tangential lines....

Yet, I think what kiils MS/XBOX the most is the overhyped marketing , the boastful marketing....They go in like they are so sure of everything, like they have a mole at Sony HQ which was telling them 8TF, no hardware RT, NO Vrs and they just went into overdrive with these, here's what we have and they don't. They focus so much on outdoing Sony, that they spend no time innovating themselves or working towards goals. So they went like rockets with 12TF, but ignored 2.23 Ghz vs 1.8, they ignored one pool of memory at a constant bandwidth, they ignored the geometry engine, the cache scrubbers, and could not stand to read an SSD thread, which is already showing large dividends in first party games and will in even more games in the future and of course even multiplats will show bigger differences going forward....

XBOX's situation is that they want a win so bad, they ignore all the surrounding details in the picture, they only look at what they want to see and hype up and block off everything else within the vicinity.......They hyped higher TF and tried to shutdown PS5's clock advantage by saying it's clocks were not sustained but variable and that would underperform, they hyped the 10GB of higher bandwidth on XBOX, whilst denying at everyturn how the lower bandwidth Vram would bottleneck the system. They tried to talk about VRS as the gamechanger, but instead it's making their games look worse.....They said PS had no hardware RT, yet it's PS that has Mile Morales and Spiderman Remastered running with RT at 60fps. Along with better RT in multi's like COD and has more games with RT.....They said PS was overheating, RE8 was 1080p 30, Valhalla was only 4K 60 on Series X, Dirt was only 120fps on XBOX......This is what's killing XBOX.....

Everything they do is to go against Sony, on twitter, on forums, instead of focusing on what counts, monitoring 343, monitoring and mentoring the many studios they bought to put out quality content...Instead they are more interested in hiring influencers to talk about gamepass instead of people developing a natural love for gamepass and it's content, overyhyping it's success, when it's really not that successful. In essence, you can't force the masses to invest or to love something, that never works..... Just like people went out of their way to hate on LOU2 and it's still GOTY.....People will love something that appeals to them not forced by hype.....In a way I'm glad all the hyped stuff fell on their backs this gen.....Evolve, TitanFall1, Anthem, Andromeda, Even Battle Royales are flailing right now.....The games and hardware people talk about for ages are games that blew people away, where people tried to bury it or had little hype and just top notch quality and ambition......Even Death Stranding which some people wanted to kill was exceedingly more successful than the overhyped gamechangers, games that would change how you saw games.....Cyberpunk is one, it did well, but it could have done much better if you followed the hype, people had already concluded it was GOTY before the second trailer released, journalist already declared god gift to making from what they saw behind closed doors and it's just so strange that games that really deserve props are often shut down in the industry, games like Days Gone.......

They hyped up RDR2 and gave it 10/10's like no other, but people played and the camera and combat was plenty janky to say the least. So was Witcher 3 as well, but it seems overhyping has done more damage to brands this gen, than I've ever seen in this industry.....For XBONEX, True 4K native, which it rarely was, shut down in less than 2 years. Most powerful console ever in Series X, shut down at release....

Just work on your hardware and software, give your best and innovate, don't be boastful, work harder instead of boasting and gloating on twitter, that time could be used giving your team the encouragement and perhaps a pertinent idea that would make their games or projects better.....That's what gamers reward, well developed, well polished products......That formula wins everytime....Sweat and dedication...

I thought the PS Plus collection was only for the launch month. Nice to hear that if I get plus in the future I'll also get those games as well.
You get it whenever you buy a PS5, and can already add the PS5 only monthly free PS Plus games like Bugsnax & Maneater to your library via the PS web store, even if you have not bought a PS5 yet.

If you have a PS4 you should have PS Plus already, its well worth the $60 (or less its on sale a lot.)

I really don't care about multiplayer which is why I don't have plus. But there's plenty of games that I want to play from the plus collection so there's a good reason for me to get it once I get my PS5.

This is nothing to do with the capture, it is how the game is (I have the game). It is a bug or a something needs switching on, no pun intended.
Anyone who thinks its save performance is kidding themselves as there far far more taxing situations in this game.

If we take a closer look at the artwork, this shows a protagonist leaning against something that might be a wall, or even a living creature knowing the previous work of Ueda.

I appreciate everyone's responses to my post however I think this is my favorite one.

You're right on so many points. And all these points join together to tell a much larger story. and I believe that story is that XBOX simply does not mean half a fraction of a fuck to the company as a whole. This is the opposite situation with Sony as PlayStation is vital for the companies financial well being and brand image worldwide.

Xbox One Outsells SNES - Sales

Microsoft launched the ninth generation consoles, the Xbox Series X|S, in November 2020, however, that doesn't mean their predecessor, the Xbox One, stopped selling altogether. Sales for the Xbox One have slowed considerably this holiday season, but it has reached a new milestone.
The Xbox One has outsold the lifetime sales of the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES), according to VGChartz estimates for the week ending December 19. The Xbox One has now sold over an estimated 49.21 million units worldwide. This compares to the SNES with sales of 49.10 million units lifetime.

Xbox One Outsells SNES - Sales

🙃
First, I doubt the truthfulness of the chart because VGChartz was never accurate.

But second, this is basically a backhand complement. You might as well try to cheer for the marathon runner who finally crossed the finish line LAST, when the race was already finished. Literally every Playstation console had outsold the SNES, and PS4 did that in 2016.
The PS4 out-sold the SNES in Dec of 2016, and we actually had the sales numbers to prove it.
But it’s also important for another reason: it means the PS4 has now outsold the SNES too.

Released back in 1990, the Super Nintendo Entertainment System has sold just over 49 million units. That’s according to the consolidated figures Nintendo released in October, at any rate.

And that’s a great figure. It means the SNES is the 13th best selling console of all time. It was in the top 12, until it got knocked off by the PS4.

It’s a good indication of how this generation has gone. The PS4 launched in late November 2013, and had sold more than 40 million consoles by May this year. We don’t know precisely how well the Xbox One is doing – because Microsoft stopped releasing those figures – but three years in, the PS4 is one good year away from surpassing the 3DS.
