Polygon: "The PS5’s stand is a quiet display of engineering brilliance"... Lets talk about it! Poll inside!

Do you appreciate the attention to detail that went into the PS5 stand?

I too move my consoles from their position at least twice, if not three times a day. Only small minded people won't move their consoles for extended periods of time, like years, right?
Well, higher minded people moved orizzontally their 360s during gameplay and damaged their DVDs!

Boy the brilliance line is very low of a plastic stand is concise red “brilliant”. Oh look it has a compartment to hide you weed in! Lol ( old snl )
I like the ps5 design but no I wouldn’t call the stand brilliant.

It's a clever design, but I still can't get over needing a stand to place a console horizontally.

Mine will be vertical I'm pretty sure. That's clearly what is was designed for.

It definitely didn't. The only console I've owned that came with a vertical stand is the Wii.
Odd, I must have bought it along side it so. This PS5 move is great so but i suppose this thing needs a stand cause if it falls Sony could be liable for the death of a small child.

I agree. But if it didn’t have that compartment it would be rage over how easy it would be to lose that screw and that would create an entire week of how they went through all that and made the screw so easy to lose.

Oh no doubt. I file it more under nice quality of life feature rather than engineering marvel though.

I'm pro ps but honestly the functions he had spelt out strike me as being a given for your kind of thing. I thought there might be more to this,tbh.. it's neat but it's not jaw dropping ergonomics melded with several-form multifunction or anything like that

Whoever says PS5 looks bad simply has no taste. Prove me wrong.

Xbox Series S has a nice design but it's a little silly. I saw an air-purifier that looked just like Series S :D Had the same proportions, too. Series X is even worse, literally a boring computer box, could have spiced it up with some lightning, at least. It looks boring. Saw PS5 the other day at Best Buy and the thing looked better than the entire store :D

The best modern (2000+) console designs are Xbox 360 original and slim, PS5, PS Vita and all of Nintendo (DS, 3DS, Switch).

The PS5 console itself looks fantastic compared to the Switch and Series X but the stand is cheeks

It's not. It's a solution to a problem that shouldn't even exist. Why not allow the console to properly stand or lay by itself?

Vertical it can hold by itself as good or better than Xbox 360 per example, Horizontal not so much.

And it is not a problem, it was a design choice.

It's total design trash
  1. Needs a screwdriver to tighten (heard of thumb screws?)
  2. Screw isn't fixed to the hole it's in (heard of circlips?)
  3. Needs a fucking stand in the first place
The fact that it has a fucking compartment for a losable screw and people are praising this says a lot

Stand is so well made that the Head of Sony Studio even managed to put his console upside down and tweet about it (while playing Bugsnax, but that's a detail).

I can smell a D‘Ghost topic from a nome away, changing your username won’t to shit if it’s still the same shit.

And people defending this stand and not call it for what it is - a design horror - are just blind fanboys.
It's gonna be different in January buddy. Different avatar probably as well. It's almost as if you want the Nam' memories back of pre-launch period... also don't out your alt like this. Junior...

I get it's a choice. But it's a poor one. I'm 100% sure some people will have their PS5s in the horizontal position. Why not support this without a plastic dingy? The design of the PS5 doesn't lend it to horizontal usage out of the box, while users will want to use it that way. It's a perfect case of form over function.

The PS5 is frankly overengineered. Obviously it has to be big to ensure proper heat dissipation, but I don't see why it has to be so curvy that it can't lie horizontally on its own, necessitating this state of the art stand.

Really makes you wonder what's going on with Microsoft's bill of materials, though. Sony can waste money on this stand and still have room in the BoM to sell a more performant console for $100 less.

I've seen better stands, in general, even for some action figures. They can't hold a ps5though but they are a even better display of engineering gibberish imo. so there's that.

I like it, it makes it look cool floating in my entertainment center, and I can dust under it easily.

What I don't like is that I can't move the console easily in horizontal orientation without potentially unintentionally detaching the stand. It needs to secure better in the horizontal orientation, but other than that, I think it's really cool.
