Momotaro's shipped+digital numbers are 1.5 million, by the end of the year the sell-through should reach this which would make it their 2nd best selling game in Japan of all time in a little over a month. There is no doubt that this board game about travelling via trains around Japan - will end up their best selling game of all time in country and it might do it by the end of Q12021. The floor is 2 million

Konami Top 10:
  1. Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters 4 (GB) - 2.210.162
  2. Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters (GB) - 1.522.968
  3. Momotaro Dentsu (NSW) - 1.500.000
  4. TwinBee (FC) - 1.200.000
  5. Metal Gear Solid 2 (PS2) - 1.141.289
  6. Metal Gear Solid 3 (PS2) - 1.129.926
  7. Winning Eleven 6 (PS2) - 1.116.786
  8. Winning Eleven 7 (PS2) - 1.100.238
  9. Winning Eleven 8 (PS2) - 1.075.164
  10. Winning Eleven 10 (PS2) - 1.059.585

The game's sell-through is already higher than the best selling PS3 game Metal Gear Solid 4 which launched in 2008 and had 998.429 sales in Japan.
It's performing twice as strong as Mario Party did in 2018, showing that 3rd Parties can actually surpass Nintendo on the Switch in Japan - provided they make compelling titles for the system. If it maintains similar legs into next year it's guaranteed to sell beyond 2.5M by EOY,
  • 2018: Super Mario Party - 764.853
  • 2019: Super Mario Party - 497.862
  • 2020: Super Mario Party - 394.184*
There is actually only a handful of 3rd Parties with games that have surpassed 2.5M units in Japan, with the most recent game to reach this milestone being Monster Hunter World on the PS4
  • Square Enix - Dragon Quest IX(DS), Dragon Quest VIII(PS2)
  • Square - Final Fantasy VII(PS1), Final Fantasy VIII(PS1), Final Fantasy X(PS2), Final Fantasy IX(PS1), Final Fantasy VI(SFC)
  • Enix - Dragon Quest VII(PS1), Dragon Quest III(FC), Dragon Quest IV(FC), Dragon Quest VI(SFC), Dragon Quest V(SFC)
  • Capcom - Monster Hunter Freedom 3(PSP), Monster Hunter Freedom Unite(PSP), Monster Hunter 4(3DS), Street Fighter II(SFC), Monster Hunter Generations(3DS), Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate(3DS), Monster Hunter World(PS4)
  • Level 5: Yo-kai Watch 2(3DS), Yo-kai Watch 2: Psychic Specters(3DS)
3DS - 5
SFC - 4
PS1 - 4
PS2 - 2
FC - 2
PS4 - 1

By the end of next year, Switch would have 3 third party games with over 2.5 million sales - Minecraft, Monster Hunter Rise & Momotaro
When Square launches DQXII its should equal PS1/SFC, and would need just one more game to match 3DS.

If there ever was a surprise hit, it would be this. 1.5 million copies shipped in a short period of time in Japan alone. I knew this was popular in Japan, but not this popular.

I still doubt Konami would release this game outside of Japan, but stranger things have happened.

I mean there is really a lack of high profile party games and Asian markets seem to be trending in the same direction - Sakuna, Age of Calamity, Atelier 2, Fitness Boxing 2 etc are doing very well on the Switch in South Korea/Taiwan. If Konami localize it, they would do so because of APAC & China where the game can find an audience - however they need a partner for marketing/distribution.

Considering the major competition Momotaro has on the Switch is basically Super Mario Party, localizing it in Chinese, Korean and a couple of additional languages could definitely add to the numbers. Also they have one more advantage, Super Mario Party never received additional content, while Konami has already updated Momotaro's online multiplayer. I don't think it would be a huge hit in the West, but at a lower price point it might find an audience there as well, Nintendo would need to feature it in Directs and handle the marketing.

At least the top selling games of the year aren't consisted of cinematic game.

I call that a win for Japanese gaming community.
I wouldn't.

The popular Japanese games don't have the most deepest gameplay. Just mash that fucking square/circle.

And are there a lot of top seller games that are cinematic and don't have a lot of gameplay?
If you are referring games like Uncharted or The Last of Us. Those games have a lot better gameplay than modern Japanese games that popular in Japan.

Good Japanese games aren't popular in Japan.
Just visiting a Japanese game arcade is a sad reminder. No one plays light gun games for an example. At least the fighting games are popular in Japanese arcades.

At least half of the top 20 there are games with deep gameplay. What is so deep about uncharted's gameplay?

Beating NSMBUD is harder than finishing TLOU, TLOU2, UC1, UC1, UC3, and UC4 combined.

I was using Uncharted as an example.

I think it's gameplay is deeper than some Gundam game were you just smash one button. And Uncharted as a game is a lot better than those games imo.

I would say at least half of the top 20 European/US games sold have good/deep gameplay?

Damn Sony isn't giving Japan stock even for Xmas.

This is insane.
Yep, my hope is they will release more for the New Year holiday but probably they won’t. It’s good they boosted the numbers but it’s nowhere near enough. Frustrating for me as I’m still waiting on my Amazon Japan order to come. But they are still backed up by all the orders they took on November 18th, and the way they are shipping them out is confusing.

Where is Gundam in that list? Which one of those games had the player mashing one button?

Here in Brazil its official price is almost TWICE the US price AND it's sold out everywhere and the earliest I saw a new shipment arriving is LATE JANUARY. Oh and that over US$ 900 price is not scalpers, it's the ACTUAL official price. Even if it did well at that clearly abusive price, no way it did THAT well. Supply is legit very limited.

Why is the price so high in Brazil? What's the price of the Xbox Series X in Brazil these days?

Don't know, taxes and shit might be the most accurate explanation. With the PS4 it was solvable since supply was more plentiful that meant the "grey market" would sell it closer to the US price. Now it feels like there are less importing options and with the exchange rate being atrocious and BR being flat out medieval in COVID prevention, it means our health situation is probably going to prevent a lot of people from traveling to the US which was also a viable option to purchase a console. The SEX was being sold for 5 thousand bucks, roughly 80 dollars more than the PS5 for whatever reason. It's also sold out and Microsoft has made it clear they're not supplying additional units to the country until like march.

Being BR is endless suffering. The thing is I'm already at the ethomaz ethomaz state of mind that I wouldn't even mind getting fucked and I would pay the overpriced BR price. It is what it is. But I can't find it.

Basically the same for Series X... R$4599.
Series S is R$2799.

We are fucked.

Edit - PS5 is R$4699... DE R$4199.

That is the MSPR you have 10% off in most retails in a one time payment (Boleto, 1x Creditcard, Debitcard, etc)... even so... yeap fucked.

Not to mention the games being like 1/3 of the minimum wage. At least Sony has the PS4 Collection thing and MS obviously has Gamepass, which alleviate that somewhat.
